    Another quality player. What I like about about Dombrowski is that he goes after quality. Not looking to catch lightning in the proverbial bottle. When Devers returns , we will need to decide if we want a four man bench or thirteen pitchers. Until rosters expand anyway.

    On reputation and past performance , Pomeranz is better than Johnson. He hasn't shown it lately. He will probably be given one or two more chances to shape up. If he continues to struggle , Johnson will get the starts until ERod returns.

    I don't think Cora has a policy of not using a player on his " day off " to pinch hit. I think it is more about trying to maintain a guy's confidence by not yanking him for a pinch hitter. No doubt hitting Moreland for Bradley was the percentage move , but Cora did have a reasoning behind not doing it. Not saying it wasn't a mistake. But let's not go overboard about it.

    If the traded prospects were not worth the likes of Sale and Kimbrel , exactly what would they be worth today had we held on to them ? Something better ?

    Oh no. We lost two in a row. We are only 4 1/2 up. This is terrible. Everything sucks. Cora is an idiot. The bullpen is a disaster. And on top of that , the farm has been decimated. The cliff is looming. What else can go wrong ? This is doom. Doom , I tell you.

    I would expect the Red Sox and/or the Yanks to make a surprise move before the deadline. Something not on the MLB trade rumors radar.

    Could probably get Liriano for next to nothing. Just take what is left on his contract. But I don't see how he could help. Say no.

    No. The wild card team plays the team with the best record.

    Any good team can be tough in a short series. Even more so in a one game play in. That is a fact of baseball life. The Yankees really don't have the fearsome lineup that some think they do. Plenty of power there , but up and down the order , the batting averages are not so impressive. They can be pitched to. I honestly think the Sox will easily win the division. In the playoffs , it is up to a few guys to step up . I certainly like our chances. But any of four teams are capable of winning it.

    After his little dust up with Austin , " Smokin' " Joe Kelly was the toast of the town. Now , folks want to run him out of town. What have you done for me lately , " Smokin' " Joe ?

    Eovaldi is a power arm. Very good move. Nothing not to like about this.

    Bottom line is you want your best nine out there. If Swihart can out perform Leon for the next couple of weeks , he should get the majority of the starts.

    A shame. Some posters could have had a lot of fun with the name " Drew Steckenrider " if he had blown a lead or two.

    Maybe I am a little too confident , but I think the Division is ours for the taking. I do not see the Yankees making a run. Looking ahead to the post season. And having a deep bullpen gives you the ability to have a quick hook for your fourth starter in the one game that he would pitch in a playoff series. To me , a top bullpen arm , like Britton , is more important than a run of the mill fifth starter.

    If we could get a guy like Fiers on the cheap , it would make sense. But I wouldn't worry too much about a fifth starter. No sense wasting time and resources on some ham and egger off the scrap heap. Probably would not be any better than Johnson and Velasquez anyway. In the post season , a fifth starter is not needed. The single , biggest thing that could put this team over the top is a high quality , late inning bullpen arm. There is a lot of competition for acquiring Britton right now , but he is just what this team needs.

    YES announcers should make a recording , " Pitch gets past Sanchez ." Then they would just have to push the " play " button when it ( frequently ) happens. Make it easier.

    Boone looked very uncomfortable when questioned about Sanchez' embarrassing lack of hustle. Sanchez is one more thing for him to worry about. Now , Severino is having problems. Face it , the Yanks simply cannot keep pace with the Sox. The lead may well be nine or ten games by the deadline. The Yankees only hope is to follow last year's path and win the wild card game. But no Minnesota this year.

    As a general rule in business , when an employee willfully destroys property of the employer , the employee is not considered to be in the right. Sale is a great pitcher. I am happy we have him. But that was a childish thing to do.

    Whoever gives you the best chance of winning should get most of the starts behind the plate. Up to Cora to determine that. Right now , he clearly favors Leon. It is possible that could change . Swihart still has much to prove. I will say that hanging on to Swihart was the correct decision.

    If I were the Mets , I would not trade any of these pitchers and try to rebuild. They had everything go wrong this year , but they have a good nucleus of talent to build around , and could easily get back in contention next year. But if they did intend to deal deGrom , now would be the time. They would get better offers for him now than they would in the off season.

    There are very , very few really quality starters that might be available. And they are in demand and would cost plenty. The others are iffy and not much of an upgrade from what we have. I think Zach Britton should be the main focus.

    Despite the monotone voice , Gibson made some good points. Of course , it is almost obligatory for Sox fans to criticize and ridicule other announcers. Which is kind of funny because Dave O'Brien really , truly sucks.
