  1. The best thing to do with the prospects is ; keep the ones that you need and deal the rest to fill your other needs. The key is being able to tell the difference.
  2. It's good to be a big money team.
  3. I think the biggest disappointment is many of the comments on the game thread. The Sox are having a great season by any measure. Historic. Yet to read the game thread you would think that half the lineup were stiffs , the bullpen was a disaster and the manager is a total idiot. And doom is lurking around the corner. Hard to understand all of the negativism, since the so- called " Curse of the Bambino " was laid to rest fourteen years ago.
  4. Good win. Baseball at it's best.
  5. No. Sure doesn't seem like it.
  6. A-Rod is a very unlikable sort. But he knows the game very well and makes a lot of good , insightful points. A good color analyst. Cora has done a fine job as a rookie manager , leading his team to the best record in baseball. Honestly , the knee jerk reactions by game thread posters are way off base . It is so easy to hate and so easy to second guess and criticize. This is a terrific game between the best teams in the business. Why not enjoy it ?
  7. Good ball game. The two best teams in baseball going at it.
  8. He might have been safe , but Altuve did not get low enough on his slide . Leon was able to put it on him.
  9. The ESPN announcers have actually not been too bad so far. But if I wanted to listen to music , I would play early 60's rock. Better yet , 50's Doo Wop . The best sound ever.
  10. Well MVP , the way it looks , this trade JBJ thread will still be going strong five years from now. So we can reassess the Espinosa deal right here at that time.
  11. He was 18 , pitching in low A Ball. Not so unusual. Not like he was a boy playing against grown men at that level. He is now 20 , and has yet to do anything to warrant the hype. We can wait a few more years I guess.
  12. Anderson Espinosa : One full season in low A Ball in 2016. W/L - 6-11 - 4.49 ERA - 1.4 WHIP . More than a hit per inning. Less than a strikeout per inning. This is before he got hurt. Overhyped.
  13. Espinosa was an overhyped prospect. We got what we could for him. If we had held on to him, he trade value today would be less. The minor leagues are teeming with hard throwing young hurlers.
  14. We all know that anything can happen in the post season. But a one game shoot out with Oakland is a risky proposition.
  15. No question the loss of Judge hurt. But if we lost Mookie , we could put J.D. in right and still have a decent DH. The Yanks wound up with Shane Robinson playing the outfield in some big games.
  16. Put it all together and the Yanks simply are not as good a team as some thought that they were. Injuries are part of the game. You can cry about them , but the Yanks did not have the depth they thought they had to fill in . The Sox are better . That's the bottom line.
  17. Biases , of one sort or another , play a role in so many opinions. True objectivity is often hard to find.
  18. Kudos to managers Gardenhire and Renteria. They have the Tiger and White Sox kids playing hard in the dog days. No quit at all. Giving the Sox and Yanks all they can handle.
  19. Kind of a dismal game , but at least got to hear the Hawk one last time. Some great stories. Not too many characters like him around these days. He will be missed .
  20. There is competition involved in putting a winning team on the field. It is possible to build one on the cheap , but much easier to pay what it takes to get the top talent. This leads to the big contracts that may not look too good in the long run. To know whether this is worth it , we would need to know the bottom line numbers. How much profit is reaped by having a top team ? What is the profit differential between the best teams , the pretty good teams and the bottom rung ? How much is it worth to the franchise value to have a perennial top contender ? We don't have all this information . But we all would like to be the brilliant G.M. who builds a championship team at the lowest possible cost. We also would want to be the G.M. with the sold out ballpark , not the one with all the empty seats on an August night. Not easy to do.
  21. It has just been announced that the tape of this game will not be shipped to Cooperstown.
  22. To the naysayers and worriers : A good pennant race is fun. The Red Sox vs Yankees rivalry is fun. The Yankees are no longer the big bully on the block. That ended fourteen years ago. There is nothing to fear. The Sox have the better team. Relax , stop fretting and enjoy the fun. Please.
  23. For those who want to look for the bright side ; we saw vintage Kimbrel today. Just dominant.
  24. Vazquez is batting .213 , with 3 homers and a .548 OPS . Can his hitting suffer any more than that?
  25. Admittedly , I am a grumpy old man , but I think the cutesy nicknames on the back are worse than the uniforms. Not the least bit amusing. Gag inducing.
