  1. I pretty much lost interest in the game threads quite a while ago. Too many folks getting too hyper and negative , even when things are going well . This ultra strange season is certainly not helping things. There is some humor, which helps a bit . Also , I do think there is somewhat of a hangover, a malaise on this entire forum. It might take a little while to get back to normal. I'm trying.
  2. Those were the " golden years " of Ben Cherington. Looks like we are currently in another one of those .
  3. Bloom was with the Rays for fifteen years . In that time they won zero world championships and one A.L. pennant . And that was twelve years ago when Chaim was still an underling . Nobody cares about the team . Nobody goes to their games . They refuse to spend money, but sop up the revenue sharing dough like a hungry o cello sponge . There are not the franchise to emulate . If Bloom was brought in because they like his baseball acumen, we will see have to hope for the best . But if he was brought in to cut payroll and use the Tampa Bay system to rebuild the Red Sox , it is a very bad idea.
  4. Like it or don't like it , the top players are expensive . And it is tough to win without the top players . How much to spend on top players or on the entire team is a decision all teams have to make . Sometimes you can be very astute or very lucky , but generally you get what you paid for . This idea about Bloom finding " gems " is wishful thinking . You have a much better chance of finding gems in the jewelry store than you do in the landfill.
  5. Running the table is now off the table .
  6. Mookie is on a different level than the good to very good players . Devers included.
  7. He loves the kid , but not enough to learn how to spell his name . And he loves his dad , for reasons unknown.
  8. To Chaim , Ronnie and all the boys in analytics : Thank you for participating in the 2020 MLB season. We do have a nice , little trophy for you . You deserve it . We suggest that you take the players out for pizza after the final game . They deserve it too . They tried their best.
  9. Fourteen games left . The Sox have to run the table just to finish at .500 . What are the odds of doing that ? But " the future looks bright . " The farm is growing .
  10. I would say that the Yankees are a pretty sure bet to make the playoffs. The Orioles are not a good team , they are the opposite of a good team . The Jays have some good, young hitters and an overachieving bullpen , but they make a lot of mistakes and do not play solid fundamental baseball. I don't see them as a serious contender. The Yankees are in a good position for the stretch run.
  11. A lot of things have changed over the years . Much of it has been for the better . But not all of it.
  12. I never understood the criticism of Steinbrenner for " buying championships " ). He was not the richest owner in MLB by any means. And the value of the Yankees grew tremendously along with his spending . The criticism should be directed at the owners who refuse to spend. They should sell the team to someone who cares .
  13. Baseball is the ultimate team sport. Obviously, one superstar cannot carry a mediocre team to the top . But MLB is also part of the entertainment industry. And that superstar certainly enhances the entertainment. Each owner will decide where he wants to draw the line with spending. And that line can greatly effect the quality of the product being offered. You can surely see that if you try . By the way , the Sox DID win a championship , with Mookie being a very big part of it . It was not that long ago , as I recall .
  14. I try not to let my imagination run wild. But I'm still kind of weird anyway.
  15. When in doubt , I like to refer to good old Occam's Razor . Why did the Sox trade Mookie? The simplest answer is ; they did not want to pay what he was asking , so they traded him for the best deal they could get before he left as a free agent . Like it or don't like it , that is the most obvious reason for what happened. No need to let your imaginations run wild .
  16. Cashman thanks his stars that the old man is no longer among the living . The son has a lot more patience.
  17. Cashman had a meeting with Boone and the players before last night's game . A lot of good it did. They did not exactly look highly motivated. Another dismal performance. Heads will roll soon.
  18. Closing ain't easy.
  19. I would say that one is not debatable. Agree completely.
  20. I would say that is debatable. But we'll never know .
  21. 2004 alone should have been enough for a lifetime pass. That was arguably the greatest moment in baseball history for Red Sox Nation.
  22. Well actually, I don't have a book. But if I had a book , results would count for a lot .
  23. After 2004 and 2007 , Theo should have been awarded the despise - free , shield of excellence. Again , results count for a lot in my book.
  24. True . Dombrowski walked into a situation where the Sox finished in the A.L. East cellar the previous two years . He inherited a farm system that was well stocked , albeit with perhaps some overrated, over hyped youngsters . He made the most of it . The turnaround was immediate. For that , he is despised? I just don't understand it . Bloom deserves a chance to show his own results. That is fair . I will try to be patient.
