  1. With a tip of his yachting cap , John Henry says, " Thank you for the kind words, Moon. " " To show my gratitude, I am going to consider lowering the ticket and concession prices at Fenway. I realize that the " little people " out there have their spending limits , just as I do."
  2. Some owners are willing to take more risks than other owners. But they are not stupid and naive. They know full well that expensive, long-term deals may go sour after a while. They also know that , if they do go sour, it's not the end of the world. They will still be extremely wealthy. Meanwhile, they are enjoying the moment. And so are their fans.
  3. Mookie steals a bag to get a free taco for everyone. It reminds me of a conversation in the Sox dugout during the 2007 World Series. Royce Clayton says to the rookie, Jacoby Ellsbury: " The whole country is counting on you to steal a base. ". Ellsbury says , " The whole country "? ( I think it was the first year for that offer ) Sure enough , Jacoby gets on and steals second. The nation rejoices. The pressure is off. Tacos for all.
  4. Now we are getting commercials during mound visits. Ooofah.
  5. Don't tell me. Go tell Mookie.
  6. This year? We are talking about sustainable. The Dodgers have been one of the biggest spenders in MLB for a long time. The Rays have only two pennants and zero championships in their history. They have stunk many seasons.
  7. If " building up the correct way " means cutting costs and depending on the farm to re-stock your team every year , then it doesn't happen very often . Who has been successful and been able to " sustain it " for any length of time in MLB with that system?
  8. Spending that kind of dough does show a commitment to winning . You can't dispute that.
  9. Manny was a great hitter. But he could try your patience at times , to say the least.
  10. Don't worry about it. According to the pencil neck geek at Fangraphs , Mookie is only worth two more wins than Alex Verdugo. Verdugo is therefore a much better value for the money. Of course , the pencil neck geek would not dare say that at Clancy's Bar and Grill. There would be trouble.
  11. It's like a fighter gets knocked out in the 11th round of a 12 rounder. You might say that he would have won if it was a 10 round fight. Well , maybe he would have , but maybe not. The situation would be different.
  12. True. The 2018 Sox pretty much breezed through the post season against some very good teams. They were never really challenged, never in any real jeopardy throughout. A very special team indeed.
  13. We all should know that you can't count out or underestimate the Rays. But the Dodgers really look like a juggernaut. Much like the 2018 Red Sox , they are a star-studded ballclub, deep and talented in every area. Hard to picture them losing the Series.
  14. There are different types of fans. Some just want results. Some care more for the process than the results. In the end , we all want a good , exciting team . We just differ on how best to achieve that.
  15. Depends on just how long they kept him submerged.
  16. Same as with baseball defense.
  17. Yes , the Rays are definitely a live underdog. As for the Dodgers always coming up short ; they do have a little something extra this year that they didn't have before , if you know what I mean.
  18. I think the two most deserving teams are in the Series. The Rays beat the Yankees during the season and again in the playoffs . Then they beat a tough Houston team. The Dodgers have been the best team in MLB all year. It should be a good World Series . Have to make the Dodgers the favorites.
  19. That sometimes happens. Folks will caution about reading too much into things such as small sample sizes. Then they will turn around and do just that if they think it helps promote their case. We are all probably guilty of it on occasion.
  20. Big game tonight. Going head to head with the NFL game. Should be interesting to see the ratings.
  21. I think the Sox management has to be committed to helping E-Rod regain his strength and health. To non-tender or release him would be heartless and a very bad look for the organization.
  22. The disadvantage of being big and tall is the bigger strike zone you present. But I don't see where it makes you more injury prone.
  23. " Too big and strong to stay healthy" is a new one for me. It's crazy out there , I tell you.
  24. Thank you. Not to mention the pressure of breaking an 86 year " curse". We will never see a moment like that again.
