Baseball is a more complicated game than football or basketball. It is not as easy to spot the kids that will become the stars of tomorrow. No doubt, having a high draft pick helps somewhat.
Soon after the duck boats were put away following the 2018 parade , John Henry started talking about how he was getting tired of losing money on the team . To me , that was the first indication that the big spending was going to be re-thought somewhat . I don't know if Mookie was determined to go elsewhere anyway , but I think Henry just did not want to spend that much to try and keep him in Boston. ( By the way , I never bought into the idea that we could trade him to L.A. and then re-sign him )
Bell , Well , in sports , they unfortunately do go by the W-L record . It means everything. As for Theo , he made his bones in 2004 , and cemented his place in Cooperstown in 2007 and 2016 . He is off the hook for anything else.
Cherington: One world championship. Three last place finishes. TalkSox report card : A. Dombrowski: One world championship. An unprecedented three straight A.L. East titles . One third place finish . TalkSox report card: F . Bloom : So far , the worst record in the league. ( Still early ). TalkSox report card : A +. ( TalkSox has a very unique evaluation system ).
All I know is that it is a sad day when Sox fans are rooting for the team to lose and have the worst record in MLB. Well , that is not all that I know , I do know some other stuff , but it is sad.
Thank you for closing the Covid / Political threads . Good riddance to them . They brought out the absolute worst in people. Amen . This place will be much better off without them .
Notin , I'm just stating the facts . You can do what you want with them. But don't say that Cherington got replaced because of one bad year . Nothing more for me to say . Have a nice day .
In 2015 , the Sox went 26-18 after Dombrowski was hired . A significant improvement from what they had been doing up until then . That certainly helped to boost the overall record for the season as well.
The folks who applauded the hiring of Bloom are certainly going to give him a long leash. That is to be expected. The question is ; just how much losing will the rank and file Sox fans abide ?
Maxie , This thread is so nice , you can put it up twice . Anyway , Devers will be fine . In this strangest of seasons , we should take these stats with the proverbial grain of salt. WAR certainly included.
The countdown is on . Usually the deadline passes with fewer than expected deals made . Maybe a couple of surprises that were not rumored . Remember , no waiver deals allowed after the deadline this year .
People take things so seriously these days . We are becoming obsessed with racial matters. African American and black have become interchangeable . But a black guy living in the Dominican is not an African American . And Hispanic is not a race . The Red Sox have a number of black players. But JBJ is the only African American on the team. Whether or not that is a factor in trade considerations is strictly up to Sox management. That is ( sadly ) where we are today.
