  1. Houston cannot match what the Sox accomplished in 2004. Down to our final three outs against the greatest closer in baseball history.
  2. Some exciting baseball to finish off this bizarre season. Very relaxing watching it without really caring who wins. I don't understand why folks always focus on the negative. This guy choked , that team choked , what losers , they really blew it, etc. This is athletic competition at a high level. Why not focus on the achievements of the winners? Personally, I hate it when people say the Yanks choked in 2004. To me that diminishes the amazing comeback that the Sox achieved. The greatest comeback ever.
  3. I remember seeing Wendel Kim's father , Phil " Wildcat" Kim fight former lightweight champion , Carlos Ortiz circa mid to late 50's .
  4. According to the scoreboard , they did pretty well under D.D.
  5. If the Rays beat the Astros , and the Dodgers beat the Braves , the Rays will be traveling the same playoff road the Sox successfully travelled in 2018. In order , the Yankees , the Astros and then the Dodgers. Can they do it ?
  6. If he retires and forgoes his salary , he can be carried on the " mentally incapacitated " list.
  7. I was the same way. But all of our success in recent years has taken away the anxiety . No longer afraid of, or worried about the Yankees . We should beat them consistently , not depend on someone else to do it. This was still a terrible season , no matter how you slice it.
  8. Okay. But to me it's like, " My kid flunked out of school , but I don't feel too bad because that neighbor's brat , who I hate , didn't get the scholarship he was seeking ."
  9. I agree on the Ray's bullpen and manager . Cash may be the best manager in the game , he seems to have a magic touch. ( By the way , you have to love Choi , he seems like a hell of a good guy ) But the Dodgers are just too all around good . I can't see them being stopped this year.
  10. To me , the Yankee's loss does not make this dismal Red Sox season any easier to take. We have had too much success to fall back on that old routine. But I guess we have to take our solace any way we can .
  11. It should be an exciting playoffs. It would certainly be nice to see the Rays win it all , since they have never yet done so . But I just don't see anyone beating the Dodgers . They kind of remind me of the 2018 Red Sox . ( And not just because of Mookie ) They just stand out as better and deeper than all the others.
  12. The Sox briefly tried Eovaldi in the closer's role last year. ( I was all for it at the time ) He did not take too well to it and was not effective. He has stated repeatedly that he prefers starting . I think that is his best spot and where his value is at present . Given our shortage of quality arms in the rotation , I think it would be wiser to keep him and hope he stays healthy.
  13. Could this be the reason behind the recent cost - cutting ?
  14. Dad : " Tommy , here we are in Cooperstown , the baseball Hall of Fame ". Tommy: " Dad , can we go look at the Kenta Maeda cap"? Dad: " Huh " ?
  15. I am not going to get into yet another discussion about WAR . But this points out a fundamental flaw in this contrived " stat ". Betts is one of the very best in the game . A future Hall of Famer . There is no comparison to Verdugo . Two wins better ? Balderdash . Balderdash , I say.
  16. This is the best part of baseball. One big game. The brawl for it all . But in the end , who is going to beat the L. A. juggernaut ?
  17. For the life of me , I can't see what all the hype is about with Deivi Garcia . I would expect Cole to go as long as he can. When the Yanks go to the bullpen , I would expect nothing but Green , Britton and Chapman.
  18. Yup. The scoreboard is usually what counts in the end. Everything else is just speculation and opineing.
  19. It sucks to be watching the Sox - less post season . But look at it this way ; we now have Jeter Downs , who many feel may actually make it to the show someday.
  20. Oakland won the A.L. West , but I think the Astros are simply the better team. Even without the cheating , there is a lot of talent on that team.
  21. Well , yeah. That too.
  22. Everything seems to revolve around the Yankees . They always have to be on in prime time in the East.
  23. I think it is a good possibility. Bloom knows him well. He has been interviewed before. I don't really have any opinion on him , but it would not surprise me at all .
  24. Agree. Graterol might be the answer , if he can handle the situation. He definitely has the stuff. Most likely the future closer . Why not give him a shot now?
