  1. There are a number of teams that need a closer more than the Sox. Assuming the Cubs trade Kimbrel , they surely will look for the best offer. I don't think that will come from Boston.
  2. The Yankees are at the point where their fans are looking for a glimmer of hope. They play well for a couple of games , and the fans think " this could be the spark, the turning point." But then they quietly slip back into losing mode. I just don't see that changing this season. It's getting close to " stick a fork in them " time in The Bronx.
  3. O'Brien does something to piss me off every game.
  4. Here's a good deadline trade proposal: O'Brien , Santana , Andriese , cash and a sideline reporter to be named later for Don Orsillo. But would the Padres go for it ?
  5. Teams seem to feel obligated to make a deal or three at the dreaded " trade deadline." Have to be either " buyers " or " sellers." Some fans look forward to it . Some hate what happens. G.M.s need to be smart. Try to do what's best for your organization, your players and your fans. Do that all of the time. Don't feel pressured to " do something " because it's the " deadline."
  6. The Rays do seem to play good , fundamental baseball. They make the plays that are needed. They seem to make fewer blunders in the field and on the bases than some other talented clubs. That pays off.
  7. I'm sure the kids will be happy if you do indeed spend the money on those nice things. If .
  8. Yes, they do. As I stated , sometimes they work out , sometimes they don't. You can certainly find examples of both.
  9. I take BTV and similar sites with a grain of salt. Who are they ? Are they qualified to scout big league players ? How do they assign " values " to ballplayers. I wouldn't surprise me to learn that they are subsidized by MLB as a means of helping to control salaries.
  10. The trouble with deadline deals is that they can be disruptive to the players and their families. That can affect performance. You may not get what you think you are getting. You are taking a chance. Some work out , some don't. Personally, I think the Sox are pretty well set. I wouldn't be too quick to pull the trigger on a last minute trade.
  11. I'm surprised. I never thought of Ottavino as being such a jerk. Learn something every day.
  12. Maxie , I think the heat is getting to you , so I will give you a pass on the suggestion to move Bogaerts to first base. Stay inside and turn up the A.C. a bit. You'll be alright.
  13. Luck counts too. That's how it is in life.
  14. Everybody should listen to their Mother.
  15. The " When you know things are going well department": You know things are going well when most of the concerns/complaints are about the bottom two or three guys on the roster.
  16. Barnes looked a little tired today. He got away with some very hittable pitches . But , overall he has done a fine job for the Sox this season. He is an All Star , and rightly so. Closing ain't easy. It's a very high stress job. There is a very short list of those who have been able to do it at a high level for any length of time. Matt Barnes deserves a lot of credit . He is one of the reasons the Sox are where they are.
  17. Devers , Bogaerts and J.D. were no brainers. Good to see Barnes and Eovaldi get the recognition . Congrats to all . Well deserved.
  18. Still early . Plenty of time left.
  19. I don't know about that. My friend Brian C . bought himself a beautiful Humvee , and it's in the shop every time he turns around.
  20. In the playoffs, all of the teams are good, but some are better than others. All of the teams have a chance to win , but not the same chance. Even in a crapshoot, there are probabilities. You will roll eight more often than ten , etc. So , saying the playoffs are a crapshoot has some validity, but that doesn't mean every team has an equal chance at the brass ring.
  21. Last night , the Sox had the audacity, the gall, the unmitigated gall to actually lose a game. An utter disgrace. They have absolutely no idea what they are doing. Changes need to be made. Now !!!!
  22. I can easily afford a Lamborghini, but I am so happy with the mileage I get on my Chevy Aveo. The kids can complain all they want , but I'm satisfied.
  23. An important thing is to not lose your composure when you inevitably do blow a save . Limit the damage and give your team a chance to come back. (Of course , the dumb extra inning baserunner rule makes everything a little wackier.)
  24. I might be wrong , but I think the games not shown on FOX are still available on MLB Extra Innings. Blackouts are applied by the regional sports networks, NESN , YES, SNY , etc. Check it out tonight if you get a chance.
  25. Manfred : " Mr. Santiago is being suspended for ten games because the umpire noticed a substance in his glove as he left the mound. Now , we don't know what the substance was , nor do we want to find out , but the umpire evidently didn't like the look of it. Good enough for me. Ten days. " ........ Okay, that sounds perfectly fair.
