Rather than stand up and face the music today , the tired and beaten Yanks conveniently, and somewhat prematurely, postponed today's game. The preferred to get some rest and get ready for New York's new favorite team , the Mets.
If you thought MLB couldn't get any dumber , last night we had the comical spectacle of an ump checking a position player, pitching in a blowout , looking for illegal substances. Of course , he didn't find any.
There is a lot of season left , but the Yanks need to turn it around soon and they have shown no signs that they can do that. There is no sense of urgency . Once you reach the dog days of August , if you are not in contention , you just start playing out the string.
It's really ludicrous watching pitchers being searched as they leave the mound. I think the umpires know this , but they are being required to do it. It's just ridiculous. That's what happens when the man in charge of MLB does not know what he is doing. Manfred is clueless.
Boone will most likely be the first to go. The perception is that the team has underachieved with him as manager. While that is probably true , there is another factor. A number of Yankee players , and the team in general, are simply not as good as they were cracked up to be. And the roster construction is one dimensional. And that is on Cashman. There have been numerous mistakes made. It's not all on Boone. But he will be the first casualty.
It's not my fault that Logan Allen flopped. As you have said many times , many ways ; " These GMs and managers know a lot more than we do. " In this case , Dombrowski knew more than you . The trade worked out very well. Don't be mad about it. Have a nice day.
As I stated previously, the criticism of the Kimbrel trade was understandable at the time. But given the results all the way around , it was an excellent deal for the Sox. The proof is always in the pudding. To continue to criticize the deal seems more like stubbornness than it does reality. I really don't have much more to say . The whole debate is getting too repetitive.
Should the Sox sweep this series, it may be getting close to give up time for the Yanks. There is still plenty of season left , but the Yankees would be pretty well done .
The key to last night's game was Cora's early hook of Perez. The Yankees were very comfortable hitting against Perez , but the hard throwing right handed relivers pretty much shut down the Yank's one dimensional offense . The bumbling , overrated German and the third base coach's blunder didn't hurt either. But the quick removal of Perez was game changing.
The Rays have become the poster child for putting together and developing a team on the cheap. They have had some success in their 24 year existence, but have yet to win a championship.
The combined no hitter is probably less common than the standard one pitcher variety. With the concern about pitch count in the game today, we may see more of them.
It was late night on the East Coast so most folks might have missed it , but last night the Cubs had four pitchers combine to no hit the Dodgers in L.A.
Notin brought up the five and a half years. That's when we traded him. Maybe he'll still turn out to be useful. Who knows ? My point is in defending the original deal. We didn't give up all that much.
