  1. Yes . In the ninth inning everything is amped up , no matter where you are in the batting order . The players feel it , the fans feel it , the managers feel it, the announcers feel it and even the umps feel it. The moment of truth.
  2. As I have stated ad nauseum, Closin' ain't easy. There is a very short list of guys who have been able to do it at a high level for any length of time. Could Houck be good at it ? Maybe , maybe not. Might as well try .
  3. These discussions can get kind of silly. Renfroe is a better hitter than JBJ , but Jackie is a much better defender. Two different type players. Take your pick. I will say that if you praised Renfroe last year and you knock him now , you are being a bit hypocritical. As for Mookie , he is the total package. A future Hall of Famer. I don't think too many people would dispute that.
  4. When Sale is ready to go , what about making him the closer ? Someone suggested this a couple of years ago and it was shouted down at that time. But it may be time to re-visit the idea. I think Chris has the right mentality for the job . It would fill a glaring need and maybe stabilize the bullpen. It would limit his innings , help to keep him strong and healthy and maybe prolong his career. It worked for Eck , all the way to Cooperstown. Obviously , Sale is getting paid much more that even the best closers , but there is nothing you can do about that now. He is going to get paid regardless. What say you ?
  5. Exactly right. When the score was 1 - 1 , the game was still winnable. The bullpen's failure pretty much killed it.
  6. I hate to say I told you so, but .......... Well, that is not at all true. I love to say I told you so. Celts win.
  7. notin , If it makes you feel any better , I care what you think.
  8. Sox need to keep doing what they have been doing the last two nights. Beat up on the weak teams like Texas . And build some winning momentum . Some confidence . And hope it carries over against the better clubs.
  9. This discussion has given me a headache. Here is the bottom line: Baseball is a team sport . If you want to win , you need good players . If you want to sign and retain good players , you have to pay. Of you can hope to get lucky. There are no money back guarantees. And no stat or small , cherry picked sample size changes that. As for Eovaldi , he has been our best , most reliable pitcher . If the Sox don't pay him , someone else will. Then we can follow his career and hope that the results justify our position.
  10. I don't know what the numbers are , but it seems to me that the home team has done very well in NBA game sevens. Celts win.
  11. There is always some risk. Especially with pitchers. Sometimes you have to take the risk. No guts , no glory.
  12. I just hope no one is wasting too much of their time trying to think of a sixth way.
  13. We are going to outbid the Mets for Diaz?
  14. You did mention E-Rod , that was after Mookie.
  15. You left out Mookie Betts. We have not won since 2018.
  16. I don't know why you get that feeling . If a team like the Dodgers or Yankees gave him what he wanted , he would leave Boston in a minute.
  17. If the Sox are at the point where they lose all of their best players because they don't want to pay the going rate , then I don't know what else can be said.
  18. Ninth inning. Tie game. Braves go with Kenley Jansen . Sox counter with Ryan Brasier. .................................
  19. fangraphs projections are meaningless. They will fluctuate with every series played. What is fangraphs anyway? A couple of young stat geeks with a website ?
  20. I think he hit it off of a position player in the blowout game. Still pretty good though.
  21. The Angels rookie , Reid Detmers no hit the Rays last night. He only had two strikeouts in the game.
  22. That is the sixty - four dollar question. I don't know the answer , but it better be soon.
  23. It doesn't matter if the realistic thread has one part or ten parts. What is funny is that many of the posts are not the least bit " realistic." Maybe it should just be re-named as " The regular season " thread. It would at least be more accurate.
  24. Yes. I good agent should be helpful in a lot of ways.
