  1. " Crazy " Joe Gallo got whacked by the mob. This Joey Gallo may get whacked by the bleacher creatures.
  2. The way the Yankee fans get on him does nothing to help his confidence. When a guy starts pressing, things only get worse.
  3. The only thing worse than the Sox performance was the announcing.
  4. WAR -- Wins Above Refsnyder. Kind of catchy , if a bit insulting.
  5. They certainly aren't any dumber than the dumb politicians.
  6. Assuming the Sox are in contention at the deadline, they are unlikely to trade Bogaerts regardless of whether or not they plan on signing him.
  7. Latin classics is a requirement for building a farm system.
  8. Boone didn't think of that. Showalter probably would have.
  9. Ryan has good stuff. I am not the informed fan that I used to be. There are a lot of guys in MLB who I know nothing about , or even ever heard of , who are pretty good.
  10. Splinter , Try to look at it in a positive way. At least you are off the hook for starting the game thread tomorrow.
  11. One of the things that tickles me is when fans say a player should give the team a " home town discount." With few exceptions, this is not their hometown. They are hired hands , albeit well paid hired hands.
  12. JBJ will have a considerably better year than he had with the Brew Crew.
  13. I think the fans have an affinity for Boston, so we think the players do as well. That may not always be the case. If the grass looks greener elsewhere , they will leave Beantown. With a few exceptions of course.
  14. Yankees's bottom of the order is looking pretty weak. Could be a downside of improving the defense.
  15. I would go all out to extend Devers before going large and long on a starting pitcher. Much safer investment.
  16. The great thing about the multitude of stats out there today is that one can always find a stat to support their opinion. Cherry picking a time frame helps too. E-Rod had a 4.17 career ERA going into today's game. No cherry picking there. Just the reality.
  17. I don't really lament losing E-Rod. He has always been somewhat overrated. He has had his moments, but he is a 4.00 + career ERA guy. There is no shortage of those.
  18. If JBJ plays every day , he will have his hot streaks with the bat. That has been his history.
  19. Baseball could reach the point where the bullpen is more important than the starting rotation.
  20. Theo Epstein. What Theo accomplished in breaking the curse ( and then again with the Cubs) overrides everything. As for Dombrowski, I cannot understand why he is so criticized when he took over a team that had finished in the cellar two years running, and immediately won three straight division titles and one world championship. Apparently, his big sin was trading away a handful of mostly mediocre farmhands. In my opinion, he deserves far more credit than he is given.
  21. Being a little slow out of the starting gate will generate an overreaction from the faithful every time. The old line about it being a marathon not a sprint is always forgotten.
  22. 2004 was historic. Without question, the greatest moment in Red Sox history. I do feel that in evaluating a G.M.'s performance, winning the division is the best yardstick. That should be the objective when building a team.
  23. You are competing against the teams in your division. You want to be the best. If they beat you out , then you were not the best . Maybe you had a high win total because you were able to beat up on weaker teams too. You can analyze it to death. There are so many different factors. Results are what matters. The fact is that the other guy was better. The competition was better. Nothing changes that. As far as Theo is concerned, what would his standing be if Dave Roberts was picked off first? I know how you like to break things down and examine everything. But in the end , there is a winner and there are also rans. The ever growing wild card rules do provide another shot for some also rans. That didn't use to be the case either. Anyway , I am getting repetitive and I don't want to go round and round with this. Do your thing . To me , in a five team division, a success means finishing in first place. If you don't do that , someone else was better than you. I want to see Bloom win before I put any trust in him. That's how I see it. Have a good night.
  24. That is your thing. You like to break everything down and analyze. It doesn't change the bottom line. I look for results. You compete. You try to win. You win or you don't. No excuses. In here , we have fans who scour the Internet to try and find something that supports their opinion. It does not change the realty. It just doesn't matter. But if that's what you like , it's okay. My question is how long do we continue to praise Bloom if he doesn't win anything? Five years? Or what? Or indefinitely if we like his style?
  25. Good for me? What does that mean?
