  1. One wag said he thought his name was Elmer Buddin because every time he looked, it said E- Buddin..
  2. That does take something away from his accomplishments. But breaking the curse overrides everything.
  3. I don't care for excuses. When you are the guy in charge , you have to be responsible for the results.
  4. With the wild card situation, there is always the chance to get hot in the post season. I think winning the division is always the goal.
  5. At some point, liking Bloom's style is not going to be enough. There is a bottom line reality. This is his third year. So far , he has a fifth place finish and a tied for second and third place finish. Hopefully, we do win the division soon. Maybe this year? How long of a leash does he have without winning at least the division? Four years? Five?
  6. The Yankees need to get LaMahieu in the lineup every day. Too good a hitter to be a utility guy.
  7. The Yankees have to get LaMahieu in the lineup every day. He is too good a hitter to be sitting on the bench.
  8. I think Houck matches up well against the Yankee lineup. Montgomery is nothing special. Expect the Sox to break their 2022 maiden tonight.
  9. Pivetta was fortunate to do as well as he did. They were getting some good swings off of him. Quite a few hard hit outs. At this very early stage , it is obvious that Boone has a lot more faith in his bullpen than Cora has in his.
  10. Matt Barnes has been around a while now. His ability and his limitations have been pretty well established.
  11. I think the Yanks have to be concerned about Gerrit Cole. He looks like he is becoming just another good pitcher. And they are paying him to be more than that. Much more.
  12. Closing ain't easy. There is a very short list of guys who have been able to do it at a high level for any length of time.
  13. Certainly, Nate could have done better. But he was out of the game after five. The Sox had a lead in the eighth inning and they lost . Call it a " blown save" or call it whatever you want , but it is not a good thing.
  14. A blown save is simply having a lead late in the game , then losing that lead. Not something that you want to see , especially when it results in a loss. A save represents a close game that goes into the win column. Some folks don't like those stats , but the object is to win.
  15. I do not like the " ghost runner" rule. It distorts the game. That said , the Yankee reliever did a better job of dealing with it than our guys did.
  16. Can't put all the blame on the pen for this loss. But it is a concern that the Yankees do seem to have the better bullpen. And just about every close game comes down to the bullpens.
  17. It's deep in something.
  18. That is all part of their calculations. The bottom line is that the book is looking to make a profit. And they usually do.
  19. The oddsmakers do not play favorites. They are very objective. A cold and calculating bunch. However , they are not always right . Underdogs do win. Dreams do come true. Well, maybe not for the Mariners.
  20. The pale hose lost Lance Lynn for a stretch. They needed to do something to fill out the rotation.
  21. Not very impressive. Let us hope that the bullpen staff performs better than they look on paper.
  22. Rich Hill may or may not be an asset this season. Time will tell. One thing I would not do is place too much importance on his spring training results. Veteran players have their own way of going about things in spring training. Let's wait and see how he does once the season starts.
  23. Certainly, defense is important. Just how much weight you give to defense vs offense is open to debate. And the defensive metrics they are using are certainly debatable. It's always good to have players who can do it all.
  24. In many respects, baseball is no different than any other business or industry. You want everyone to do their job well , but some people are better suited to certain assignments than they are to others. It is the job of management to assign employees to jobs where they are most likely to succeed. Of course, this does rely on having enough talent in your workforce ( pitching staff) to begin with.
  25. A lot of fans are too quick to use the " choke" label. For the most part , these guys ( Barnes included) are pros who have dealt with high stress situations many , many times.
