  1. With a man on first and two outs, why does our relief pitcher take the count to 3 and 2 and then he is able to throw two consecutive strikes. That just puts it into a situation where the runner is going and could score on a single. It didn't happen but seems to be an error in judgment.
  2. It would be different if he did something offensively, but with weak offense and league worst defense, he is a liability. We really don't have an alternative at this point.
  3. What Pom has in his arsenal is a high 80's FB and a knuckle Curve. Without command, he is going to have trouble getting outs and when he gives up walks he will really get into trouble.
  4. Rameriz has 3 pitches. A low 90's FB, and a mid 80's slider and changeup. He probably was tiring and his command wasn't the best. That inning several Sox hit the ball hard with Swihart getting his first HR when it was much needed and Mookie putting us ahead. Can't see Rameriz coming out for another inning.
  5. The bottom of the order is kind of underwhelming with Nunez, Devers and Swihart. We need the top of the order to be killers but Mookie has been a little off as has been Moreland. It would be great if we had one more reliable bat in the lineup and maybe Devers can get it going again soon.
  6. Kimmi. My experience with guys going out with ankle sprains, especially those with some tearing, will be in a boot for a long period, maybe 6 weeks, and then a pitcher will need to get back to throwing effectively. I hope he get back soon but my guess is he will be out for most if not all of August.
  7. It certainly does. With the dog days of August ahead, Swihart will have to give Leon regular rest periods unless somehow we trade for a catcher. I doubt that, so Swihart will get his chances.
  8. Our needs are fairly clear and the priorities may be a little mulled by not knowing the status of E-Rod and Pedroia. Our ability to make even one trade is quite limited with personnel and our ability to absorb contracts. I don't expect us to outbid the several competing clubs for big named talent and certainly not for club controlled talent. Best hope is for a rental second tier reliever and/or possibly a rental infielder. Talk has been around about the same in an outfielder but I can't see that aas a pressing need. I am not expecting meaningful trades this year unless we can pick up and turn around underappreciated talent. I we do make some, then I will be pleased but surprised..
  9. I am not sure about the timing of E-Rods return. Depending of the severity of the sprain and ligament damage he could be gone quite a while with rehab after the ankle is okay. In the case of college basketball, I have seen a high ankle sprain with the player going into a book last for months before returning. Be interesting to know whether they think he has any chance of returning this year.
  10. Beni is hittiing 500 since the AS break. Good thing because some of our killer lineup is a little off. Perhaps the AS game did that to them.
  11. Running Leon out there every day is asking for trouble. Swihart can give him a break now and then and should.
  12. In yesterdays game some blowhard opined that Benintendi only hit when we were way ahead and it didn't matter. Well, two outs and the bases loaded mattered and he came through with a 2 rbi ground rule double. So much for the bombast. Actually, Bradley did a nice job of drawing the walk for an rbi and then JDM singled for another giving Porcello some breathing room. Betts looks a little off but we all know he will come through in many a key spot, maybe not tonight.
  13. Still waiting for DD to move. Hope he will do something soon. Pitching, second base, possibly catching in that order. We can limp by with Devers, but if that kind of trade happens then Devers might get a stay in the minors.
  14. 20 innings and 1 run. We had a similar situation earlier in the season. Yesterday both Betts and Beni got on base and nothing threateniing happened behind them. Lets hope they snap out of it today. So far the game is on delay.
  15. I could see Merrifield as a long term solution at 2nd. If they were looking at Moustakas, what does that say about Devers? Not sure about Dozier. Last year was good, not so much this year. Would like to see DD make a move soon as last year we waited and nothing much happened.
  16. That is a thought, although he is talked about as trade bait.
  17. Thornburg and Smith are two relief pitchers DD brought in that have not done the job to date through injury, stupidity or what have you. The two have been far less stellar than we had hoped. Brasier has been excellent. So hard to tell when we bring in relief pitchers.
  18. Aruba, Jamaica, oh I want to take ya ,etc.
  19. We are through with more than half the season and Devers has had time to develop at the plate and in the field. I see him still making throwing errors and chasing pitches. It mght do him good to get more seasoning in the minors to work on his weaknesses. If we had a Beltre, we might be able to try a development assignment on Devers as he doesn't seem to me to be making substantial improvement.
  20. I'd rather see Schoop and Britton in a package deal. Schoop is a 2nd baseman, is 26 and has a lifetime average of nearly 260. He isn't having his best year so might be cheap. He has good size and is from Curacao. We could have the middle infield from the ABC islands. Britton would be the key piece but Schoop might prove to be useful going forward.
  21. One run in 14 innings. Our better hitters look like they have cooled off with the AS break. Beni is kind of the exception and maybe Pearse.
  22. Maybe a package deal, Jonathan and Zach for Chavis and a prospect pitcher?
  23. The Mets are up 7 to 5 in the last of the 9th and we have a not so pretty win in the bag. Could be 5 1/2 back.
  24. It wasn't pretty but we escaped for another inning. Lets hope our killer B's get up this inning and do damage.
  25. Just crazy how many good opportunities for the Sox have come to nothing. I think the LOB is around 18 now.
