  1. Kelly at least still has velocity. With that, he might make a comeback. Pom doesn't have major leauge stuff at this point. Can he regain it? Unlikely.
  2. There are some that are out of reach including Merrifield. The two others who might help us are Schoop of the Orioles who is definitely in trade talks and Dozier of the Twins who is also out there. There is competition for both and both tend to get hot near the end of the season. Schoop is also just 26 so the price might be high, but if we could have him for a few years it might be worth the plunge.
  3. With Eovaldi on the team the priorities shift to relief pitching and second base. I'd settle for either at this point. A number of possibilities at 2nd and fill-in relief pitchers are out there. It will be interesting what DD can come up with to strengthen the team.
  4. Turns out to have been a very good decision.
  5. 3 to 2 in the 9th, two Yankees on Romo vs Gardner and he strikes out on a pitch off the plate.
  6. If we are not worried about going over the seconde tier, why not bring Castillo up instead of looking at Austin Jackson. He would be our 4th outfielder and might be used in following years.
  7. Nice to bring up a bright spot. Really, even with Pom's issues, it was Kelly that make this game a reach for us to come back and win. We need Kelly to find himself and soon or else we need to bolster the BP.
  8. Yes, it was questionable to leave Pom in since his stuff was not that good and his command was only fair. It was a decision that might have been impacted by the condition of his BP. As bad as Pom was Kelly's struggles just compounded the issue. Kelly is still throwing hard but his command is also not good.
  9. An objective view of Pom is that he has a high 80's fastball and a knuckle curve. That is not much ammunition against ML hitters and particularly if the command is not excellent. I wouldn't expect his velocity to go up nor for him to suddenly develop another pitch so it is hard to see him as a viable starter. With E-Rod iffy and Wright not right, we seem to need another starter for the long stretch of games we now face. Have we got enough to offer to get a viable 4th or 5th starter? Stay tuned.
  10. Kelly has lost something since JUly. Hope he finds it soon as we are going in the wrong direction. The Yankees are said to have Zach Britton so more bad news.
  11. With a man on first and two outs, why does our relief pitcher take the count to 3 and 2 and then he is able to throw two consecutive strikes. That just puts it into a situation where the runner is going and could score on a single. It didn't happen but seems to be an error in judgment.
  12. It would be different if he did something offensively, but with weak offense and league worst defense, he is a liability. We really don't have an alternative at this point.
  13. What Pom has in his arsenal is a high 80's FB and a knuckle Curve. Without command, he is going to have trouble getting outs and when he gives up walks he will really get into trouble.
  14. Rameriz has 3 pitches. A low 90's FB, and a mid 80's slider and changeup. He probably was tiring and his command wasn't the best. That inning several Sox hit the ball hard with Swihart getting his first HR when it was much needed and Mookie putting us ahead. Can't see Rameriz coming out for another inning.
  15. The bottom of the order is kind of underwhelming with Nunez, Devers and Swihart. We need the top of the order to be killers but Mookie has been a little off as has been Moreland. It would be great if we had one more reliable bat in the lineup and maybe Devers can get it going again soon.
  16. Kimmi. My experience with guys going out with ankle sprains, especially those with some tearing, will be in a boot for a long period, maybe 6 weeks, and then a pitcher will need to get back to throwing effectively. I hope he get back soon but my guess is he will be out for most if not all of August.
  17. It certainly does. With the dog days of August ahead, Swihart will have to give Leon regular rest periods unless somehow we trade for a catcher. I doubt that, so Swihart will get his chances.
  18. Our needs are fairly clear and the priorities may be a little mulled by not knowing the status of E-Rod and Pedroia. Our ability to make even one trade is quite limited with personnel and our ability to absorb contracts. I don't expect us to outbid the several competing clubs for big named talent and certainly not for club controlled talent. Best hope is for a rental second tier reliever and/or possibly a rental infielder. Talk has been around about the same in an outfielder but I can't see that aas a pressing need. I am not expecting meaningful trades this year unless we can pick up and turn around underappreciated talent. I we do make some, then I will be pleased but surprised..
  19. I am not sure about the timing of E-Rods return. Depending of the severity of the sprain and ligament damage he could be gone quite a while with rehab after the ankle is okay. In the case of college basketball, I have seen a high ankle sprain with the player going into a book last for months before returning. Be interesting to know whether they think he has any chance of returning this year.
  20. Beni is hittiing 500 since the AS break. Good thing because some of our killer lineup is a little off. Perhaps the AS game did that to them.
  21. Running Leon out there every day is asking for trouble. Swihart can give him a break now and then and should.
  22. In yesterdays game some blowhard opined that Benintendi only hit when we were way ahead and it didn't matter. Well, two outs and the bases loaded mattered and he came through with a 2 rbi ground rule double. So much for the bombast. Actually, Bradley did a nice job of drawing the walk for an rbi and then JDM singled for another giving Porcello some breathing room. Betts looks a little off but we all know he will come through in many a key spot, maybe not tonight.
  23. Still waiting for DD to move. Hope he will do something soon. Pitching, second base, possibly catching in that order. We can limp by with Devers, but if that kind of trade happens then Devers might get a stay in the minors.
  24. 20 innings and 1 run. We had a similar situation earlier in the season. Yesterday both Betts and Beni got on base and nothing threateniing happened behind them. Lets hope they snap out of it today. So far the game is on delay.
  25. I could see Merrifield as a long term solution at 2nd. If they were looking at Moustakas, what does that say about Devers? Not sure about Dozier. Last year was good, not so much this year. Would like to see DD make a move soon as last year we waited and nothing much happened.
