  1. This is still a team game played with 25 man active rosters. While one of the 25 can do great things, it is hard to justify earnings differences of 10 to 1 between starters. Teams can come along and bid up the salaries but eventually it can imbalance their own team and work against them. I believe the front office should consider pay scales for the importance of players to the team and then stick to those.
  2. Are you drunk or are you just a potty mouth? Either way, you sound like a stupic child!
  3. Kinsler had a terrific defensive outing tonight against the Yankees. What a big turnaround from Nunez. He also hit well tonight. Great pickup by DD
  4. Seeing the top of the order hit was a great thing and timely for the first Yankee game. Keep it up and now Bogaerts can get going tomorrow. Maybe Severino will have command issues tomorrow and we can take advantage of his slippage as during his previous 4 games. We still need a good game from Porcello.
  5. Eovaldi didn't do badly either.
  6. Beni hasn't pulled the ball and has been trying to go to left field but that isn't working. Try pull the ball and hit line drives. He is too good a hitter to not at least hit the ball hard. Fly balls toward the wall or into center are most likely outs.
  7. Lets hope the bats get going tonight. Betts has been strangely unable of late, Beni needs to pull once in a while, Pearce and Holt have had their problems. I see Bogaerts will get a night off to get over that contusion. He has been off of late as well and a night off may be what he needs. Hope it isn't longer.
  8. His listed weight is bothersome. Shedding a few might help avoid more injuries and give him better range. At 21 you might be able to get away with carrying extra but for how long. If 237 is what he weighs now, it is heavy for a 6' ball player.
  9. It's typical to go with 12 pitchers. Including Thornburg, there were 15 listed. Drop any 3. Do we need 3 catchers? Maybe not since 2 do not hit well at all. So drop 1. Keep the rest. An alternative is keep Swihart as a utility guy, backup catcher and backup DH and keep 3 catchers getting rid of one of the near lock utility guys. Hard to drop Kinsler as he is our best defensive second baseman and Nunez is our best backup at 3rd. All this may become moot due to injuries or poor performance during the next period before the playoff. Fun ot speculate though.
  10. It just occurred to me that Thornburg was left off the list. He certainly is one of our strong relievers at this point and will make the team ahead of several others.
  11. You preface it with being 100% healthy and there is a ways to go for that and possibly includes additional injuries. If we play along and assume 2 catchers will be involve. Swihart is very likely to be first in line if he keeps hitting anywhere near where he is now. In my opinion that leaves a pick between Vaz and Leon for the 2nd. Either is servicable. I think Kinsler will make it along with Nunez. Depending whose hitting remains acceptable either Holt or Pearce will be selected from. I think they will keep Brasier and Kelly, provided Kelly gets form back. That's 24 of the 25 so one of Pom, Workman, Pearce/Holr, Leon would fill the roster in. If we go 12 deep in pitching then Workman and Pom get left out and possibly Leon. A lot can happen in the interim and we have to see how people perform down the stretch.
  12. Since the AS break Swihart .368 , Leon .083. Pretty clear choice here. Rest Leon and help him restore himself and play the hot hitter.
  13. Theeeee Yankees lose! Theeee Yankees lose! This time to a depleted Baltimore.
  14. He is hitting 368 since the AS break and has helped us although he certainly hasn't had a lot of plate appearances. During the same period Pearce has hit 227, Betts 208, Bogaerts 205, Moreland 143, Holt 111 and Leon 083. So you can make the case that we have faced good pitching while he has compiled this club leading average. Good for him but a little worrisome for the others.
  15. Their command has to be better as the hitter can sit on one pitch. If a starter can rely on 3 or 4 pitches he has a better chance of fooling the hitter. Pretty obvious I would think.
  16. We are going through a period where the 1-5 bats have been cooled off. Partly we were facing good pitching. Hard to put ones finger on what is goiing on, perhaps just one of those slump periods. The Yankee pitching won't be easy either, so our guys need to pick it up.
  17. When it comes time to select the playoff team, if Swihart continues to look this good, he is going to force a decision by Cora and the front office.
  18. He had major command issues last night although his velocity was slightly better than the first ttime back. He threw nearly 50% balls and hit a couple of guys. That won't work for him and us but it is still possible his command returns. He still really only hass two pitches, which isn't really enough for a starter these days.
  19. Our top of the lineup guys have looked bad in a number of recent games. Yes, the pitching they faced has been excellent the last two days, but they just haven't looked like they were competing. Men on base, nothing happens. Are they tired or in a collective malaise? They need to get it together since they will no doubt face good pitching in any playoffs.
  20. Agreed. Right now he is a better hitter than either Leon or Vaz and his defense looked fine. A decision will be forced going forward.
  21. A takeaway from tonight is that Swihart has to be an integral part of the team. His was excellent behind the plate and hit better than a lot of Sox players. Right now he seems to hit better than either Leon or Vasquez so there will be an interesting decision going forward. A second takeaway is that Kinsler is an improvement at 2nd base defensively and his hitting looked better than some.
  22. I knew he looked heavy but was shocked when I saw that number listed for him. I am a little taller and weigh about 232 and always get ribbed by my softball buddies as being to slow (too heavy). I'm going on 78 and am definitely not getting paid to play. This is a 21 yo kid who is likely to sustain avoidable injuries if he doesn't lose some of that weight.
  23. The Sox are lacking a good lefty relief pitcher, so if they did try to fill that position I could understand. Don't think Pom is the right guy to fill that role. The only guy on the market who fits that bill is Jake Diekman and he a 31 yo Texas setup man. We would have to lose one of our right handers to make that move so I don't think it is likely, but who knows.
  24. Sounds like DD has made some overtures that we not accepted and that he is waiting to see if one of those comes to fruition. He is willing to wait for the other guy to come to him now. If a bluebird flies in he won't reject it but it has to show that it will improve the Sox. To clear space for those we already have, Lin will go when Kinsler is added (probably today). I understand that Devers is on the 10 day DL but with both a sore shoulder and a hamstring, he may well be out for longer. I didn't realize that he is 6' 237 #s. Pretty heavy for a 21 yo and approaching Pablo heavy. Kid should lose a few and he would probably improve his durability. When he gets back, we will have a decision to make about who goes down. Same with Vaz. E-Rod supposedly is doing well. Ligament damage for a pitcher sounds pretty severe. He may be out for several more weeks despite the rosy statements coming out about his progress. Pom may make the decision for us today if he has another poor outing.
  25. We could eat a part of it and still get under the Luxury Tax limit.
