  1. That is a thought, although he is talked about as trade bait.
  2. Thornburg and Smith are two relief pitchers DD brought in that have not done the job to date through injury, stupidity or what have you. The two have been far less stellar than we had hoped. Brasier has been excellent. So hard to tell when we bring in relief pitchers.
  3. Aruba, Jamaica, oh I want to take ya ,etc.
  4. We are through with more than half the season and Devers has had time to develop at the plate and in the field. I see him still making throwing errors and chasing pitches. It mght do him good to get more seasoning in the minors to work on his weaknesses. If we had a Beltre, we might be able to try a development assignment on Devers as he doesn't seem to me to be making substantial improvement.
  5. I'd rather see Schoop and Britton in a package deal. Schoop is a 2nd baseman, is 26 and has a lifetime average of nearly 260. He isn't having his best year so might be cheap. He has good size and is from Curacao. We could have the middle infield from the ABC islands. Britton would be the key piece but Schoop might prove to be useful going forward.
  6. One run in 14 innings. Our better hitters look like they have cooled off with the AS break. Beni is kind of the exception and maybe Pearse.
  7. Maybe a package deal, Jonathan and Zach for Chavis and a prospect pitcher?
  8. The Mets are up 7 to 5 in the last of the 9th and we have a not so pretty win in the bag. Could be 5 1/2 back.
  9. It wasn't pretty but we escaped for another inning. Lets hope our killer B's get up this inning and do damage.
  10. Just crazy how many good opportunities for the Sox have come to nothing. I think the LOB is around 18 now.
  11. Pretty inept hitting. Detroit gave us a gift yet we couldn't make anything of it.
  12. Walking the #9 hitter to put a runner in scoring position. Doesn't make sense. ninety percent of his pitches were up in the zone or out of the zone high.
  13. Good Point and we may be down to two total utility infielders with two on the DL if you don't count Pedey.
  14. I would have thought Mookie would figure this guy out after seeing him twice. Didn't happen.
  15. Their pitcher is so far fooling the Sox hitters. The 3rd time around should tell a different story.
  16. Men on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Good scoring opportunity but it wasn't to be. JDM isn't the fleetest of guys so it needed to go to the outfield. Try again next inning.
  17. I'd say everywhere you find a person, there would be an *******, but what does that to do with baseball?
  18. As I recall, last year we were hoping for a deadline trade, but they didn't materialize. Now the Guardians and the Dodgers have made strong moves. Can the Astros and the Yankees be far behind. Hope DD is negotiating now for our turn.
  19. Cora's technique didn't have to be good to see that letting 2 strikes build up on balls down the middle without offering didn't make sense. Many on the board realized the same thing, but several of the guys, especially Bogaerts seemed determined to take a lot of good pitches. That has changed this year as opposing pitchers know they may get a swing on the first pitch. From what has been said, Cora also asked Bogaerts to try to pull the ball more often and to use his size and strength to get a higher slugginng percentage. Not much has been said about the effect on the rest of the hitters, but Cora recently made a comment about JBJ finally joining the team, meaning changing his hitting technique. You have to wonder why Farrell didn't do more about obvious hitting issues?
  20. I have used Ho Hum to denote boredom with the comment, but not hear. Usually I reserved it for my kids.
  21. I think that means he has a chance not to be. I prefer a different direction.
  22. In the planning for next year, I would definitely be looking for a prime or younger candidate to play 2nd for us. During the discussions about Pedroia early on, I was probably the least optimistic, thinking he would probably come back just after the AS break while others were talking May. We all were wrong and I don't believe we should take the risk for next season again. We need to pick up a FA or trade for a quality guy that can at least reliably play average 2nd base ball for us.
  23. A lot of talk these days about Zach Britton. I can understand the Sox would like a quality left hand reliever in the BP but is Britton the right guy. He was lights out in the past, but that was then and he has gone through an injury and I am not so sure we want to take that risk, especially if it would mean giving up a lot to get him.
  24. i remember from the game that Porcello was getting hammered and couldn't find the strike zone. Cora left him in until the game was in great jeopardy and then had to go to the BP anyway. I don't see how his decision in that case can be supported. It was highly questionable and the results were bad.
  25. The priorities are in the pitching department. Holt is a keeper but not as an everyday player. We will not be able to fill every position where we have a need so maybe Phillips comes in to help for this year if he shows up in AAA. Otherwise a starter is needed and one or two relief pitchers, letting our worst go. Catcher is also still up in the air until later in August. If we can get by until then, Vaz will become available and the need will be reduced. If Leon is injured in the interim, we would be forced to act.
