  1. Devers and Betts saved this one. tood bad Sale didn't get the win but Kimbrel was wild tonight.
  2. Thats his first HR in a while. It came at a great time. At least we still have a fighting chance. Our BP is down to the 2nd tier but the top of our order will be coming up. Maybe they will do something.
  3. Wouldn't throw a strike to the 8th hitter but does to the much better hitter. Kimbrel blew it totally.
  4. Walk the 8th hitter so the top of the order is up and then a wild pitch to move the runner into scoring position. Not good.
  5. After similar last night. I don't think the twins pitching is that superior. Something is going on where they are in a collective malaise.
  6. Lets see some offense.
  7. Another inning of top of the order futility.
  8. Any doubt we need a full time second baseman?
  9. The top of the Sox order suddenly appears toothless, especially Betts and Moreland. Snap out of it guys and start producing runs. Lynn was throwing 92 mph four seamers and slightly slower two seamers with an ocassional slider. Sale deserves more support.
  10. Brasier has really been effective since joining the Sox. i don't think you could call Thornburg, Hembree or Kelly as reliable. The Sox do need one more high quality quassi-closer type. After watching Rodney, I would be concerned with his ability to get wild. He almost gave the game to us last night.
  11. We need to take care of business. Lets not be concerned with the others and we won't have to be if we play good ball. Five hits tonight wasn't our best display but then we only gave up 2.
  12. Sure they have and so have the other contending teams. We don't have a lot to trade material nor cap space so DD is handicapped. Everyone knows the needs although the priorities might be argueable. DD will try his best but at worst we will stand pat and still be a terrific team. Only a few days to go so we won't have long to wait.
  13. Knowing his propensity to swing and miss, I would think he would have swung at 3 and 1. Too bad we didn't get the hit we needed, but its on to tomorrow.
  14. Well, the Yankees got Happ and one of our pipe dream targets, Soria, went to the Brewers. I still hope that DD has something else working for the BP. Still time but not much to get more done.
  15. We still could use a reliable RP since Kelly hasn't been that of late. I also would take a 2nd baseman, particularly if he had more than a rental status. Pedroia is not likely to get better as a 37 year old, even if he makes it back next year.
  16. Kelly at least still has velocity. With that, he might make a comeback. Pom doesn't have major leauge stuff at this point. Can he regain it? Unlikely.
  17. There are some that are out of reach including Merrifield. The two others who might help us are Schoop of the Orioles who is definitely in trade talks and Dozier of the Twins who is also out there. There is competition for both and both tend to get hot near the end of the season. Schoop is also just 26 so the price might be high, but if we could have him for a few years it might be worth the plunge.
  18. With Eovaldi on the team the priorities shift to relief pitching and second base. I'd settle for either at this point. A number of possibilities at 2nd and fill-in relief pitchers are out there. It will be interesting what DD can come up with to strengthen the team.
  19. Turns out to have been a very good decision.
  20. 3 to 2 in the 9th, two Yankees on Romo vs Gardner and he strikes out on a pitch off the plate.
  21. If we are not worried about going over the seconde tier, why not bring Castillo up instead of looking at Austin Jackson. He would be our 4th outfielder and might be used in following years.
  22. Nice to bring up a bright spot. Really, even with Pom's issues, it was Kelly that make this game a reach for us to come back and win. We need Kelly to find himself and soon or else we need to bolster the BP.
  23. Yes, it was questionable to leave Pom in since his stuff was not that good and his command was only fair. It was a decision that might have been impacted by the condition of his BP. As bad as Pom was Kelly's struggles just compounded the issue. Kelly is still throwing hard but his command is also not good.
  24. An objective view of Pom is that he has a high 80's fastball and a knuckle curve. That is not much ammunition against ML hitters and particularly if the command is not excellent. I wouldn't expect his velocity to go up nor for him to suddenly develop another pitch so it is hard to see him as a viable starter. With E-Rod iffy and Wright not right, we seem to need another starter for the long stretch of games we now face. Have we got enough to offer to get a viable 4th or 5th starter? Stay tuned.
  25. Kelly has lost something since JUly. Hope he finds it soon as we are going in the wrong direction. The Yankees are said to have Zach Britton so more bad news.
