  1. Is it a norm to have constant injuries among our pitchers? Is that the future of mlb pitchers? Just seems like we can't catch a break. (nobody got hurt, I'm talking in general)
  2. Bottom line is we were getting pitiful production from 3B, 1B and DH spot relative to the league. 3B looks to be fixed. Moreland is playing as well as expected and what we paid for. Plus he was to share the bag with Hanley with Yound taking over the DH spot on those days. That did not happen. Hurt or otherwise, Hanley has been disappointing. There's always a nagging injury with the guy. Hell he can hurt himself just swinging the bat. Travis would be serviceable and cost effective at 1B if Devers and Hanley gives us 30 home runs apiece. Maybe we sign Nunez and see what we need at 2018 trade deadline. Our pen should be improved next year (although that can change quickly from year to year).
  3. Our pitching has carried us. DD saw an opportunity to acquire Sale and he saw this year's result as a possibility. He also continued to add pieces to our bullpen even thought it has not worked for Thornburg. It's incredulous how well we're doing despite our anemic offensive production at 3B, 1B amd DH spots. Pablo experiment failed. We now have it covered with Devers. DD went for defensive help from 1B. We are getting exactly what we paid for in Moreland. Hurt or otherwise, Hanley has not produced. A singles hitter that we're paying $19M. But we're stuck with him for two more years. Pitching and defense still rule the game. Not sure why we didn't pursue Gray either. We'll have to address contracts of both Kimbrel and Pom after 2018 season.
  4. I'd do that in a heart beat if Stanton can play 1B.
  5. I was going for 'worst case' scenario boys and girls. Don't get your panties in a bunch.
  6. With 40 games remaining and 7 1/2 game lead in wildcard race, I figure all we need is to split to capture a playoff spot. Non first place team would have to go 28-12 (.700) to move past us.
  7. Then you and your friends can retreat from the cliff?
  8. If we win it all this year, DD's approach maybe different. It maybe that he will have an opportunity to reshape the ball club. What if there's another opportunity to acquire a front line ace? How about a big bat? Not winning will put pressure to continue to add to get over the hump. Winning it all will allow us to reshape the team with one eye towards getting off the road to impending cliff.
  9. Looks like he would have fitted under the cap for this year....You can't ever have enough pitching.
  10. But waiting until September would have been DUMB.
  11. WHY ARE WE REWRITING HISTORY? Devers was brought up close to when he should have been brought up. Could he have gone from AA directly to majors? Yep. You guys are really dumb enough to think few games in AAA made all the difference? Get real. There were reports out of baseball people that he was ready WHEN HE WAS IN AA. It was not so much rushing him as much as finishing off Pablo first. Lets freaking move past it. As I said previously, it wasn't so much would he succeed as much as WHY THE HELL NOT TAKE A LOOK AT HIM? WHAT THE f*** DID WE HAVE TO LOSE? WATCH HOLT PLAY 3B INSTEAD?
  12. Yep, we have several issues on this team but CF is not one of them. Leave it alone. Our catching tandem is just fine. They are both good defenders. We seemed to have cured the 3B fiasco. We can almost live with Pablo's dead contract since Devers is producing like a $19M player. We just need marginal improvements from Moreland, Betts and Xander. Beni has heated up. I would like to see Workman in more high leveraged situation. He has the experience in big games. It won't be a cakewalk and everyone needs to contribute. Holt needs to go on DL. He's been diagnosed with lackoftalentism disorder.
  13. Holt sucks....his value? Let see what we can get for him. Probably not much.
  14. I'm going to take Moon's approach to 2018. Just as he projected full year of Beni for 2017, I'm going to project full year impact of Devers. That alone should improve our offense for 2018. He can't do any worse than what we did early this year at 3B. Plus I can see few players having a bounce back year. Betts, Xander and JBJ can have better year in 2018 (assuming they don't go nuts over last 40 games this year). By signing Moreland, we were able to leave enough cap space to add Nunez. We don't have to take same approach for 2018. We can blow past the tax limit. Getting everyone healthy would go long ways in improving our outlook.
  15. Best value ever has to David Ortiz. And he went out on top. He's very rare. There will always be ANOTHER great player. Maybe THAT's DEVERS. Can we sign him to a 20 year deal? Buy out his 6 years of team control plus 14. We can't make the mistake of Pablo Sandoval. We have to live with two more years of this.
  16. But if you have a chance to trade for Stanton without giving up any major league players, would you do it? You have to keep in mind that MOST of prospects don't pan out. I can remember this board going on and on about Owens. He's been demoted to AA in search of strike zone. Chances are greater that a prospect you traded away won't come back to bite you. Now in case of Sale, who cares? I hope it works out for both sides.
  17. Not re-signing him means we'll be two players down, him and a power bat at 1B. This is why we are resetting the penalty rate this year. So we can go over next year, and I'm not really concerned about 'super' tax for going beyond the $20M threashhold. It's long freakin' season and he's the true super utility guy, not some mediocre ballplayer JF is in love with. UPGRADE THE TALENT, JOHN. f*** YOUR DAMN LOYALTY.
  18. Hopefully we'll have good Wright back next year and give us much needed depth. Sale, Price, Pom, E Rod, Porcello and Wright will form one of best starting rotation in majors. Getting Carson Smith back in September will also strengthen our bullpen. I am absolutely sold on Workman. He exudes confidence that I don't see from Barnes and Kelly. We just need a big bat at 1B. I will still look for big trade possibilities. You never know if another Chris Sale deal is out there.
  19. I would wait until he opts out and sign him as a FA.
  20. You can bet that Borass will be seeking premium contract for Xander. He will produce documentation painting only positive profile of Xander. Xander had nothing to do with our latest success. It's been our stellar starting pitching and bullpen along with Nunez, Devers and Beni. I'm hesitant about a 10 year deal for Betts but that's something we need to do. But I doubt we can afford multiple long term deals. If you are going to spend money, I'd rather do it for premium talent such as Stanton and Votto. Otherwise construct a team full of Nunez. BTW, I will puke if Holt is our 4th OF. He sucks. Non athletic little dude. Epitome of mediocre.
  21. I would have claimed him....I'd go with that 5.
  22. He looks to be confident. Kelly puts himself in a little ball. Barnes is too soft. Hembree doesn't give a damn. Workman looks like a man out there.
  23. Can someone tell John that Brock is batting .200? He takes a third strike down the middle for his third strike out. Does he have a picture of John?
  24. Can someone tell John that Brock is batting .200?
  25. Brock Holt sucks.....non athletic little dude....what the f*** is he doing in majors? I
