I agree fully on Shaw. What people forget was the we had both Moncada and Devers in our future plans.

Shaw trade was bad because the entire FO misread the Pablo situation. Say what you will, they were trying to recoup some of that $95M. What if Thornburg was pitching the way he did last year? But Shaw was inadequate at 3B last year. I'll need to see what type of adjustments NL pitchers will make to Shaw before I'm convinced he is better than what the stats indicated in 2016.

Maybe Hanley is hurt. But his power is down. Yeah he still hits hard balls but he drives them into ground. We need to rethink the construction of this team. Trade out some of the pieces for more power. It's unrealistic to think everyone 1-9 having good averages. It's just tough to string together three hits to score a run.

I'm just opposed to 'extending' players before contract expires. Pay them what they are worth. Find out what the market is willing to pay. With $200M, we should get our share of good players. What if 2016 was their best year? Not saying it is. I'd like to think it was the floor for many of our young players. No need to rush to extend Betts. Pay him what he's worth when he becomes a free agent. There aren't that many Chris Sale type contracts out there.

Ziegler signed a 2 year, $16M contract. He's given up 24 runs, 40 hits in 29 innings. Tazawa signed a 2 year, $12M contract. Tazawa got off to shaky start and supports a 5.28 ERA. Koji inked a one year $6M deal. He looks to be little more than average. I AM FREAKING GLAD THAT WE PASSED ON ALL THREE. We dodged a bullett not having $34M tied up to at best mediocre trio.

He's DH'd and playing 2nd. Was suppose to play SS but Pedroia was a last minute scratch. I heard he was writing an apology note to Eck.

Where are all the freaking idiots not wanting to simply try out Devers? He may get sent down between now and whenever, BUT THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON NOT TO BRING HIM UP. He looks more mentally tough than Xander ever will be.

Ben was selfless. Ultimate team player. Insisted on building for future and kept the farm in tact. He knew he may lose his job over it but he did what was best for the future of Red Sox organization. How is that?

Our window of opportunity has not changed. We should be adding pieces not selling off. One thing is clear though, you can't fall in love with guys simply because they came up through the system. I'm perfectly happy with Chris Sale. He didn't grow up in our system. We were talking about extending Xander and Betts this spring. Be careful. Baseball is a game where success is measured by minimizing failures (you are applauded for hitting .300 but you fail 7 out of 10 time). It's easier to bet on losing than winning. Power matters in today's game. We can't ignore it. This can't be a team full of singles hitters. Your run production will suffer.

Beni, Bogey and Betts need to get going. Moreland needs to sit down if slump continues. Having Nunez and Devers should help. Many ways to skin the cat. Team needs to stick to the original 'stay' under the cap plan. Unless they go BIG and I mean BIG. What really sucks is Carson Smith not returning. What the hell is wrong with our medical staff?

I'd love to hang out with Eck. He's really charming I think. He can be self deprecating and he's genuine. Price? He's a guy that makes $217M more than me but he's there for my $89 per year mlb entertainment.

Just from 'value' standpoint Votto = than Beni, Xander, Travis, Swihart and Groomes package? Nunez, Pedroia, Betts, Votto, Hanley, JBJ, Vaz/Leon, Devers, Lin/Marrero

Nunez can fill in for 3B Devers SS Xander LF Beni DH Hanley Devers can also DH with Hanley moving over to 1B. Not even sure why we would need Holt? Devers and Nunez can fill in several different ways.

Ben was the ultimate #2 hitter in the lineup. Hitting behind the runner, dropping sacrifice bunts, helping little old ladies cross streets. Well that was the OLD thinking. No more sacrifice bunts, hitting behind to advance runners. #2 hitter should be our .......? What the hell am I talking about? Focus, focus......

I'm not oppose to it. But you'd have to reevaluate other positions as well. Will Beni give us enough power out of left field? What about Travis at 1st base? I just think AL East teams need power bats to be competitive.

Days of Big Red Machine is over. You can't simply write down same lineup every day. But Sox need better utility players. You can't have Marrero's of the world on your 25 man roster. I actually think Lin is an upgrade from Holt. He's just more athletic. Beni is having a pedestrian 'rookie' season. Pedroia went from winning Rookie of the Year to MVP in first two years. Some players mature early and ceiling is limited. I'm not sure if I would call Beni, "special'. There's only one player on this team that I wouldn't trade. Everyone else is a game (not right now but in the future)
