  1. Based on depth chart provided by MLB, Yankees' 9 position players are under team control for 23 years. Sox starters are under team control for 28 years. It's also difficult to project young players in the farm. Thus most teams are in the same boat when it comes to pending cliff. It may or may not be good thing but we have more controlled years than the Yankees. I guess Kimmi would argue that Yankees are ready to replenish outgoing talent more so than the Sox. But again, it's difficult to project on minor leaguers. Both teams are fortunate that they have money to go get a player.
  2. Sandoval deal is only through 2019, although Sox is liable for $5M buy out option for 2020.
  3. I would think it would be hard to trade Xander who made $4.3M in his first arbitration year. You only have two years of control left and at what price? Better question is what can we get in return? Not much.
  4. Similar to simply looking at total runs scored. 14-0 win followed by 1-5 and 0-1 defeats may give us 5 run per game average but fact remains we didn't hit in 2 of the 3 games. There has to be a better metric than 'average' runs per game. Not sure what the best measurement for winning is. How about won/lost record for each team based on runs scored 0,1,2,3,4 and 5+?
  5. I was trying to be funny and I didn't even realize that Cleveland surged ahead of Houston. Didn't know.
  6. Maybe we'll better off playing the wildcard game and facing Houston in 1st round. We have Chris Freakin' Sale afterall.
  7. Once it gets near Boston, it will lose all power and downgraded to a 'breeze'.
  8. they peaked too early.
  9. It was GIVEN that Guardians had a good DH. I always feel NL teams are at disadvantage on the road because they don't have a full time DH. Their best hitters are already in the line up. But having a spare, hot bat in Schwarber, Cubs offense became better. And he was not defensive liability as DH. Guardians simply had their normal lineup.
  10. I though Cubs had huge advantage going to Cleveland simply because of DH rule and having Schwarber getting to bat.
  11. We need power. Why put a singles hitter at 3B. Attractiveness of Xander at SS was that he would be one of better power guys (eventually) playing ss. I sure hell as don't want him at 3B with his production.
  12. So you hang out with the 60% of righteous people? Good for you.
  13. Each to his own. Holt sucks. His production has steadily declined over last 2 1/2 years. His OPS is below .500. I'd find someone else to defend. This is JF's weakness. You don't think Porcello would want Nunez at 2B over Holt? You complain about our offense and defend someone hitting below .500? This is baseball forum. Not what a nice guy he is forum.
  14. Half the country is probably 'connected' to Florida through travels and relatives. Just little eerie watching the Rays play when Tampa was ready to get slammed. Praying for everyone's safety. My step daughter and family are hunkered down north of Ft. Meyers area. It's sad that we need this type of event to bring the country together. Why can't we just get along? Respect one another. Why are we so angry?
  15. If I'm starting pitcher, I don't want Holt in my lineup. I'll bat for myself.
  16. 2021 Devers arb 1 Beni arb 2 Price yr 6 Pedroia final yr E Rod final arb M Barnes final arb H Hembree final arb R Scott arb 2 Ben Taylor arb 2 R. Elias arb 3 B Swihart arb 4 Looks like we'll have close to $150M to spend.....no worries.
  17. HanRam is that ugly girl running around with group of pretty ones. He thinks he's still 22 and has speed and can hang with Betts, Beni, Xander etc. Nope.
  18. Funny there's no more talk of anything negative about Sale's trade. DD read the tea leaves correctly. He had a third baseman ready in minor leagues and it wasn't Moncada. It's unbelievable to me that we have Sale for two more years at about $25M. Deal for Carson Smith was still the right move. We also received Roenis Elias in that deal. Smith is under team control for next three years. There's an outside chance he can take over the role of closer if Kimbrel does not return for 2019-2020. You have to think his fastball will return to pre-surgery level in 2018. It still maybe that we'll have regrets trading away Espinoza but we've seen now what DD saw in Pom when the trade was made last year. My only regret would be that he's only under team control for another year. Now that Devers is on board, Shaw/Thornburg deal is easier to stomach. We'll just have to see if we get any production out of Thornburg. Unfortunately I doubt he'll be 100% until 2019, last year of team control. Thinking we'd get 3 good years out of him, now it maybe limited to one. It's not so much what we gave up but what we got in return.Very disappointing. We have two more years of team control for Workman, four more years from Barnes and Hembree. We also look to have plethora of bullpen options in our farm. Our pen should be fine. Adding Nunez and Reed and NOT picking up a third baseman was just the right move by DD. Just what Theo would have done.
  19. From practical standpoint, we have 6 and 5 more years of team control for Devers and Beni. As attractive as Machado is, I rather look for reinforcement in other areas. Obviously if we sign Machado, we'd move Devers to 1B. It would be stupid not to take advantage of a gold glover. Especially when he will be making $30M or more.
  20. the guy is not on 40 man roster...it could have been $500M...It's like Henry made a donation.
  21. I'm just glad to be a Sox fan. We have the resources to acquire talent.
  22. EE signing had to do with resetting the penalty rate. Castillo's salary was no way going to get lumped in with current year's salary and penalty. I also think there was a hope of playing Hanley more at 1B and Young at DH, but that did not come to fruition. It's a tricky business trying to guess Sox management. You can only go by track record. Henry still wants to win. DD WILL sacrifice SOME prospects for immediate gain. Right now, DD I think is enamored with Groome and Matta. Everyone else is trade bait.
  23. It's a sunken cost just like signing bonus and peanlty for Moncada. Did that impact sox signing Price? I don't think so. You do know that our gross revenue is around $380M? New CBA was a gift for all the $$$$ teams. Teams can now use that as an excuse to stay within 'budget'. More money for Henry.
  24. http://www.masslive.com/redsox/index.ssf/2017/07/boston_red_sox_didnt_trade_all.html This is a great read on Sox Pitching Prospects by the man himself, Brian Bannister.
