  1. I just don't think team will FORCE a reset. Key is staying below $20M above the limit. $228M CBP will cost $238M. I think Henry can live with that.
  2. We can all chip in $100.
  3. 2020 I think Porcello definitely goes if we extend Sale. I'll assume JD opts out after 2020. Rick $20.625M Pablo $18.455M Pearce $ 6.250M Mitch $ 6.500M Chris $15.000M Xander $12.000M Total Savings = $ 98.830M Sale $33.000M Betts $ 8.000M ($28M total, arb 3) Xander $20.000M Bradley $ 4.000M ($12M+ total) E Rod $ 4.000M ($8.3M total, arb 2) Beni $4.000M (arb 1) Major Additions = $73.000M Net Positive $26M Current CBT Payroll (2019)= $238M 2020 CBT Payroll = $218M before other arbitration raises and rest of 40 man roster costs. We are short one starter and no 1B. We can probably sign a fifth starter and 1B for $16M combined if no one emerges from the farm. Note: Betts is already at $28M (projected for 2019). Really, what's the delta if we decide to pay him $35M? Doable. If he says no, go after Trout.
  4. My guess is that DD STRONGLY recommended it to the ownership. Sale's trade is DD's deal. He's very vested in Sale's career with the Sox. By signing Chris year ahead of possible Betts' and Bradley's departures, who knows, we maybe going for three peat.
  5. If I'm head of the Players' Union, Machado to San Diego is great for the players. You want as many mega deals as possible going to teams not named LA, Yankees, Cubs, Red Sox, etc. Not Red Sox this year but other high end market teams still have bullets to fire. Read that as money to spend on players not named Machado and Harper. I think it's good for baseball. Whoever loses Harper sweepstake may turn to someone like Kimbrel. It'd be like my wife saying honey I saved you $300M so I'm going to buy Kimbrel for $85M.
  6. You maybe right. But why not wait and see? DD obviously disagrees with you. Sox management seems almost giddy about the plethora of bullpen arms.
  7. Cubs won a title. We won a title. I'm happy with our starting pitching. Everyone's happy.
  8. I'm assuming you knew I was talking about Sandy..but original OP may have been about Swihart.
  9. With his experience (3 years +), he can declare for free agency but I'm not sure how the money would work. My guess is his contract is not guranteed. In theory, arbitration figures are typically below market value so Leon should get a contract larger than what he agreed to if he declares for free agency. What I'm saying is that why would Sox as an example let go of Betts to save $20M and get NOTHING in return? Same would apply to Sandy. I would also think Swihart would have some value in a trade.
  10. very sad to hear...not being flippant but I'm glad Sox won last year.....
  11. so you think he'll rehab until October of 2021?
  12. It's a big deal at my age..nice deflection by the way.
  13. Nope J.D. Martinez rf-dh 5 years/$110M (2018-22) 5 years/$110M (2018-22) signed by Boston as a free agent 2/26/18 18:$23.75M, 19:$23.75M, 20:$23.75M, 21:$19.375M, 22:$19.375M may opt out of contract after both 2019 ($2.5M buyout) and 2020 seasons (no buyout)
  14. I always want to hear the bad news as soon as possible. Can't baby the guy. If he can't play, he should retire.
  15. Early bird gets the worm.
  16. After we win the Division, I will happily proclaim that Despite finishing second (AGAIN), Yankees have the Best Bullpen Ever Assembled!
  17. He's making $23.75M for BOTH 2019 and 2020. Then it drops to $19.375M for 2021 and 2022. It makes more sense to opt out AFTER 2020.
  18. It’s worth noting that an extension for Sale would push the Red Sox into the top luxury tax penalization bracket. Per Article I disagree. Why not do what we did with Porcello? Sign the extension on April 1, 2019.
  19. Swihart is under team control for 4 years. Sandy only two years. Swihart is set to earn $910K and Sandy $2.475M in 2019. How did we get to this point? Who in our organization thought Swihart can catch in the majors? Has he been given amply opportunity to showcase his talent? Why not? I know he got hurt playing left field. Did he simply under-performed as a defensive catcher? Why was his lack of defensive skills not diagnosed earlier and addressed? ?Does he just suck as a defensive catcher? Answer me this. Is Vazquez closer in 'makeup' as a catcher to Sandy than Swihart? Which combo gives you the biggest upside looking ahead? Sandy/Vazquez vs Sandy/Swihart vs Vazques/Swihart? Vazquez has a guranteed contract. Other two doesn't.
  20. I love Sale. Extension 1 $200M, 6 years, straight up Extension 2 $200M, 6 years, $35M 1-4, $30M 5-6: opt out after year 4. It keeps AAV at $33M. Sale can opt out or if in decline, accept $60M over last two years. There are tons of health concerns, but I love our starting rotation going into 2019. I always thought the team has a fiduciary responsibility not only to fans but to the position players to start a pitcher that can give offense reasonable expectation to win without scoring 6+ runs. I think we have that rotation this year on PAPER.
  21. Good thing is we'll go through another draft without major depletion (unless of course DD utilizes farm talent for stretch drive trades).
  22. Yes, THANK YOU DAVE. All 132 will play for a team WITHOUT the ring.
  23. Why so much pissing contest? Sox fans are pretty happy with their team. We all realize Yankees CAN win. But we still like our chances. Allocation of resources. With our outfield defense, offensive firepower, good starting pitching, we think we can outscore our opponents. I will say it again. I'd be more worried having signed Kimbrel to a 4 year contract than not having him. Let that sink in. There's a strong possibility we'll gain additional cap space depending how the spring training shakes out. We'll have enough cap space to improve the team, again, in July. On paper, this is our best starting five in quite some time. Throw in healthy Wright and our rotation is stellar.
  24. I disagree Kimmi. Again, new GM/Operations guy, On the heels of 3 last place finishes out of 4 seasons in a baseball market. Price was the best available starting pitcher that winter. DD had to answer to every nitwit on this site. You can't ignore those last place finishes. No, I would not give anyone 10 year contract. I would go at most 6 years. Ideally, I'd go 4 years with no opt outs. I think Eovaldi's contract is just right.
  25. I'm amused to hear from Yankee fans about what is wrong with the Sox on daily basis.
