We should have a reliever start each game and go 2 innings. A starter can come in and pitch inninngs 3-8. Can't do much worse than we have been.

Bottom line is offense spotted E Rod for 3 runs and he couldn't hold it. Our starters are getting hit HARD. Everything else is irrelevant. Let's look at the 5% problem in depth and ignore the elephant in the room.

We have outscored Tampa 24-22 playing one less game. But they've only given up 11 runs to our 42. Sale 2019-2024 Price 2019-2022 Eovaldi 2019-2022 E Rod 2019-2020 Porcello 2019 What the hell are we suppose to do? We think we have the best starting rotation. Be patient. No time to panic. We're only 1 game behind the Yankees.

I hope we have a plan B. We won without him last year. We can't baby the guy. If he can't play over 100 games then he needs to be a utility player. We need an every day 2B.

Per MassLive The Red Sox starting pitching staff has experienced a difficult start to the 2019 season. Chris Sale’s 6 strong innings Tuesday lowered the rotation’s ERA from 11.14 to 9.00. The opposition is batting .313 against the starters. But don’t blame Vazquez and Swihart. Don’t call for Leon’s return. Remember, Vazquez caught 10 of 14 postseason games last year when the pitching staff posted a 3.29 ERA. Before we get too stupid......I know it's coming.

The Bogaerts and Sale extensions are evidence, if Betts needs any, that the Sox are serious about keeping this winning core of players together. Per Fangraph... Cliff? Nah, no cliff here.

Xander is homegrown talent and we gave up some younger talent for Sale in a trade. They are both getting a raise. Not quite similar to DD signing say Price in an open market. You build teams in 3 different ways. 1) Homegrown talent....you should know, Yankees have done it in recent years. (Xander, Betts, JBJ, Dustin, Beni, Devers, etc) 2) Trade....basically two teams trading players a) surplus of talent at one position or switching out major league ready talent for talent further out in the minors. (Sale, E Rod, Porcello, Eovaldi, Pearce) 3) Free agents (Price, JD) I think DD has used all three modes to enhance the roster. Perception was Yankees used method 3) when the old man was running the team. I think I saw an article in Fangraph detailing the composition each roster.

Sale to defer undisclosed amount of salaries, reducing average annual value to $25.6M Per Cot's. Thus his delta is $10.6M which I this is very reasonable. Xander's delta appears to be $8M. To think both salaries are covered by Pablo's is pretty good deal for the Sox.

I did read an article where DD was quoted something to the effect we hope he doesn't opt out after this year, talking about JD. I think JD will give Sox a chance to sign him even if he does opt out.

Question for pitchers and pitching coaches. Typically, how often and how many pitches will starters throw between starts? Instead of bullpen session, can they just come into a game and throw 25-30 pitches between starts?

It wasn't directed at you or anyone specific. It's time to sit back and enjoy this season. I'm certain DD and Cora will address any problems that crop up.

Cora said Price is available out of the bullpen in the first two games in Seattle. Price will pitch the fifth game. I thought this was interesting.

we have a winner.....two valid points. No offense but I'll go with Cora. Does anyone here think it's hard to acquire a Sandy Leon? People on this board make him out to be a Hall of Famer. Oh my God, Chris Sale will now suck. Bank it.

I'm talking about how I keep track of regular season from April to September. Not the Seattle Series. +15 gets you to about 96 wins.
