  1. Things can all change quickly. Yankees can win the Division by 15 games but if they don't get to the world series their fans won't be happy. We all want the big prize. Assuming we get everyone healthy, we can still get through each playoff series, one game, best of five, best of seven. We have a talented ball club when they are all playing well. We just need to make sure we get one of the wild card spots. Another thing this season has taught me is that I'd think long and hard about $300M contracts. I rather overpay on short term deals. Moreland, Pearce and Nunez were all good gambles. It they don't deliver, they're off the team next year. High end players end up getting all the leverage. He they play well, they opt out after two or three years. If they suck, the team is stuck with unproductive player makings zillions.
  2. Playoffs?
  3. 5 years/$145M (2020-24), plus 2025 option signed extension with Boston 3/23/19 20:$30M, 21:$30M, 22:$30M, 23:$27.5M, 24:$27.5M, 25:$20M club option $50M is deferred, reducing average annual value to $25.6M (will defer $10M annually in 2020-24, to be paid on 6/30 in 15th year after the salary is earned, 2035-39. If club exercises 2025 option, $5M is deferred until 6/30/2040 Not sure Sale's contract, having some money deferred has been discussed. His CB payroll impact is $25.6M, instead of $29M. Some savings there for luxury tax.
  4. I was thinking defense. Any offense would be bonus. He's a true infielder. Better than Nunez, Holt and Chavis. Pearce and Nunez become redundant with Chavis playing 1B, 2B and DH. Holt can play everywhere. Pearce and Nunez have to hit.
  5. At some point, both Pearce and Nunez will need to contribute. Maybe not today, not next week. We can't have bunch of non productive offensive players that is lacking defensively also. If it was up to the majority, Devers and Chavis would still be honing their skills in the minors.
  6. Moon, is it time to consider Marco Hernandez (he's tearing it up right now) on our major league roster? We don't have a true 2B right now. I'm assuming he can play both 2B and SS. I rather free up Holt to play all over the field. Nunez scares me defensively. When do we say good by to Pearce? Chavis can get his bats at 2B, 1B and DH.
  7. It's business. You do what's best for the team. Most true fans get it. To get NOTHING for Betts is asinine. Before you know it, you'll need big money for Devers. We already hedged by signing Xander. You didn't think we'd do it. Extending both Sale and Xander tells me what the management is thinking. Unlike the Lester situation, it appears we made a fair offer to Betts' camp.
  8. Funny how things can change quickly...with Pedey now definitely out... This is Xander's team. Forget the opt out, he's singed through 2026 counting option year which is vested based on essentially him being healthy in 2025. Michael Chavis is a Sox until 2025. Devers is under team control through 2024. I wouldn't waste time extending Betts. I'd see what I can get for him after this season. We can always sign him as a free agent. You can BUY a very good player for his projected $25-$28M salary next year. Our starting pitching should be solid for next four years. Our bullpen should always be competitive what with all the young farm arms being converted to the pen. That's the core group going forward.
  9. We're taking a chance on Sale for sure but Xander is only 26 and I'd say he has much better body than Pedey. Lot more athletic.
  10. So much for home team discount. $110M. 2014 135 games 2015 93 games 2016 154 games 2017 105 games 2018 3 games 2019 6 games 2020 0 games 2021 0 games Basically Sox paid him $27.5M per year. He gave everything he had. Not being negative about the player. He wanted to remain a Red Sox. Really need to think about long term contracts. I just want him to live a pain free life. He's too young to be hurting daily from just living.
  11. I'm sure it's because of Holt coming back and Sox wanting to go with 12 pitchers and 13 position players...and they were hedging against E Rod coming up short. BUT, when are we going to say goodbye to Thornburg? Does he have any upside left in him?
  12. I agree. Trout is deserving of his contract. I'm not sure any other position player deserves $300M+. I'm thinking of huge contracts given to Cano, Machado and Harper.
  13. You can't avoid Pedey's salary counting towards luxury tax computation. That's what we're talking about. Has Chavis cost us a game anymore than any other player? How about Barnes last night? 22-12 since Chavis call up. 6-13 prior to call up. He's not the problem.
  14. Devers was 2-for-4 with a homer, raising his average to .330. He had a monster road trip, hitting 13-for-27 (.481) with four homers, eight RBIs and eight runs in six games. 22 and looking to make the All Star Game. Kids can surprise you. We should worry about extending him.
  15. We've found a gem in Marcus......and he's not limited to one inning.
  16. Yep.....need to wear big boy pants. NO ONE PUT A GUN TO HENRY'S HEAD TO GIVE PEDEY THE CONTRACT HE HAS.....MAN UP.
  17. 6-13 prior to Chavis call up 21-12 after Chavis call up
  18. Should we send down JBJ? Chavis changed the momentum for Red Sox this season. Without him, we're not playing .500 ball. Verlander is tough for anyone.
  19. No homer in April, 7 in May
  20. $300M? I don't think so.
  21. He needs to get the ball in the air....tired of watching him hit ground balls.
  22. As bad as we're playing, we lead for second wild card berth.
  23. With the bullpen in need of some help after being heavily worked yesterday, the Red Sox today recalled LHP Darwinzon Hernandez, our no. 2 prospect, from @PortlandSeaDogs . RHP Colten Brewer optioned to @PawSox as the countermove. I love it when a kid gets a chance.....Let the Darwinzon era start.
  24. Yankees are outscoring opponents just as Sox did last year. We'll see if Betts has another gear in him this year to match last year's production. No way I'd pay $30M for non power bat. A team can only carry so many non productive hitters. Read JBJ, Leon and Nunez today.
