  1. So funny irony. I was at that game 5...in the outfield bleachers by RF foul pole. And I used to be a regular in the Globe Sox room, then here...and then I hadn't been in here in years...and then sure enough the Devers trade.
  2. Devers went full circle...homers off then Yankmes Chapman makes him a media darling...Chapman comes to Sox...Devers HR v. Yankmes...traded. His Sox career revolved around his performance v. Yankmes often.
  3. The entire Nomar issue was range...that was it...he didn't have the range anymore, the Sox felt they needed a defensive-strong SS and then they got him in Cabrera. I was upset when it happened, but that was Theo--and that guy seemed to often push the right buttons. He was ahead of the curve pre-season of 2004 and during.
  4. He won't be the last opt out either..free agents will opt out of considering the Sox as a potental location...nah, they will sign for millions and millions no matter where that location is--but I wouldn't come to Sox if I wanted to win 2025 or 2026.
  5. Yaz didn't run out balls sometimes at Devers age...he would have been traded in 1970 to 1972 had the current regime been in charge.
  6. Here is my realistic take of the 2025 Red Sox...bad franchise, only caring about a future that seems to be like kicking the can down the road. You want to pay a guy Devers money and then tell him we don't care for your fielding, then tell him nah, now we need you to field, then paint him as some clubhouse issue or whatever they want to do--the answer isn't giving up on him and trading him for basically nothing. It's the Sox way of things, when everything is going well, find a way to screw it up, take the feel good away. I went from finally getting excited a bit about the '25 Sox with Anthony/Mayer/Bello/Crochet and a return of Bregman to what's the point? Hard to remain a fan when the franchise is run by guys who tell Jim Rice you are not giving our talent the right hitting philosophy. Devers is the team's best hitter and one of the few reasons to come to a Sox game or watch it on TV--always a swing away from hitting a bomb.
  7. All-Star MVP to puts team in a bind...never a dull moment.
  8. Problem or maybe the difference between pre-Henry and now-Henry is that he established a win first mentality at least it seemed that way even if 2013 was just a bit of good chemistry and not collection of great players much but with great pitching and clutch veterans. Seemed certainly 04,07, and 18 were by products of spending money and having good to great players in the fold including the Killer B's outfield and having good pitching. But past-Henry was about winning to me even with some of the signing flops...this now-Henry is disappointing. It's like you established a big market, winning approach and then disbanded it. So it makes it worse.
  9. Absolutely. Hurt some of their better teams to not have the extra star pitcher, extra star hitter.
  10. I'm impressed that the small fan base in here keeps talking like the Sox are relevant. I used to follow the team religiously and then I realized Henry is treating this like a business only. I guess the price paid for past winning/success...not defending JH, just saying he killed it for a lot of long-time fans. Just killed the hopes/expectations and the star power. Wiped it out.
  11. JH made the Sox into a business...it won 4 titles to be the Best in the Business between 2004-2018. Then like some businesses, it only mattered that the logo on the product was more important than the quality on the field. Quality costs money. So Sox are a just a business now. Not taking away from what the baseball people are trying to do in Breslow and Cora...just they are hamstrung by this business model.
  12. The only way to answer JH not spending is fans need to stop going to Fenway and stop buying Sox merchandise, start buying PawSox stuff instead.
  13. Yes, everyone is happy with the Sox minor league system as so many are playing at the MLB level right now.
  14. Kind of enjoying this .500 squad...what's not to like, they got Devers...did I say they have Devers? They got the best foreign buy buck for buck in Yoshida..when did he last play again? What position? They dumped Sale in a great move to get rid of deadweight from rotation..8-2, 3.01 ERA and really that one bad start affected that mark..don't want that...but still have Story and his big contract...140 million got you 145 games, .229, 19 HR, 84 RBI...and thank our lucky stars we did get Verdugo (Yanks), Not Quite Jeter Downs, and Wong (at least he matches up for starpower) for Betts. That was brilliance not paying him and saving money for Story. Again, what's not to like for Sox. The environment has changed with Cora showing that 2018 was not a one-hit wonder for him. Anyway, Go Sox!
  15. Heathcliff Slocumb save....I don't have to explain that to some of you...others look him up.
  16. LOL, of course 3 home runs....too funny. Always seems to happen that way.
  17. Betts is worth the price of admission (expensive) for MLB...does something every game that shows he is a superstar...to think the Sox didn't think he was worth the large contract...incredible....all the money spent on even Story..ugh.
  18. what I'd give to have Bogey, Plawecki, and Vaz even. Yikes
  19. Well I'm on the Bruins chatboard. I used to be on the old Globe canland chatboard that existed in the late 1990s during Jimy time. I was die-hard...and I accentuate was...I can't watch this product anymore, can't accept the way since 2018 (went to game 5 WS clincher...great thrill) the organization just said that's it Sox fans...that's all we can give you. We have to go back to pre-Yaz mediocrity because well we have a soccer team and other things to worry about. I'm old too (still work) and I try to follow the Sox from time to time, but jeez I'll take Verdugo, JD, Renfroe, Sale even over this product. Makes me sick to see that lineup on April 14. sad. I will always enjoy the WS titles, but this is tough to swallow.
  20. I'm impressed you guys still do game day threads.
  21. Bring back Brian Daubach, 4-time 20 HR/70 RBI guy...
  22. Now that's an indictment. Poor Bobby.
  23. Right, September callup lineups...but this is this early in the season..this is significant. And indictment on Sox roster.
