  1. To add on the resting of players. I say this with less than 50 games to play. You can rest all you want once we are either eliminated or we win in the playoffs. It's really that simple. You play your best players--Benintendi might suck v. lefties of late, but so what. This has been an immense love affair with Sam Travis and while he's hit some bombs, he's not really the first option when there are so many other players who should be playing/hitting in front of him.
  2. Tough one. Cora still playing the sit guys for rest game when you don't need to (this actually first started under Jimy Williams back in the late 1990s when he introduced what I called the "mandatory rest" regardless of need.) It didn't work then, it's certainly not working now. It only works if you are winning and don't have to worry about making the playoffs. It's a strategy of doom. But Cora is no different than every other manager in today's game. They want to use all the toys at their disposal regardless of whether they work or not. Oh well.
  3. Might actually be just 1 year and then he may do the unthinkable....not retire, but go to a NY based team.
  4. Old school, grew up in Boston (Newton) and while my Celtics fandom basicaly died with Bias, then Lewis (renewed a bit in the championship Big 3/Pierce), I've always been a die-hard B's, Sox and Pats fan..it paid off after years and years of no titles.
  5. thanks Bells and Ty...you know I didn't really intend to post much. I was absent last few years much here and last year it was like everything the Sox did turned to gold. Phenomenal performances to the point where I told my brother after the Sox first week of the season, they were going to win 102. He laughed at that, scoffed and then they won 119 (overall). But even with the team seemingly out of playoff contention this year, I just can't stop watching them play. I am going to likely 2 games at Anaheim. I probably do a better job of being a fan when the Boston teams are not at their best, if only because you can see all the talent and the potential for winning. And when Sale throws a gem like last night, you get excited. It's natural. Meaningless? Probably, but still fun to watch. B's fans over on the other board, many in mourning, upset, and I'm like hey what a great run to get to the 7th game of Cup final. It was a remarkable adventure. Go Sox! Go B's! Go Pats!!! and even Celts!
  6. No I'm Spartacus!
  7. And to add, Hosmer was going to be the Sox big-ticket free agent and really that would have been yet another albatross salary to deal with, so money not spent there to get cheap Moreland went to Sale/Eavoldi.
  8. I'm going to say yes, and here's why. He hit some huge HRs last year in the 119 win season. His bomb in the famous Sale rant in the dugout speech completely turned that game (and possibly the entire WS around). This year, if he doesn't come up with by my count 5 incredibly big hits, some HRs, the Sox aren't even a .500 team right now. Moreland's hits early this season were the difference between winning and losing. You want to look at $13 million spent, then subtract 11 million for paying Rusney Castillo to sit in the minors. So I"m going to buck the trend and say yeah even with the injuries, and overall lack of production, he was worth it. Well worth it.
  9. Sale looked like vintage every year but 2019 Sale last night. Electric stuff. Leon caught him and I do think he's the binky for Sale. Wakefield had his in Mirabelli. However, Vasquez has had a wonderful year offensively and I think is becoming a better catcher at calling pitches--or he sucks and that's the reason the staff sucks--or the staff sucks. Starting staff underwhelming all year as a whole, basically a weak link to the team.
  10. Too many guys have fallen apart-Cashner, Price, and even EROD has slipped a bit of late. Sale has been consistently poor. It's over but will always be a mind-scratcher that so many really good SPs all collectively failed for so long a period of time. It's almost inconceivable!
  11. I think Sale needs to hit his spots, and quit worrying about who is catching him. It's a cop out.
  12. This sad story of 2019 just gets sadder by the minute for Sox.
  13. The Red Sox are 17-5 the last 22 times a starting pitcher recorded 18 outs. That shows you just how pathetic the starting staff has been because they can't make it to the 6th and the record for the team is under .500 and then some when the SP can't make it to the 6th. Starting staff simply has been a disaster.
  14. Some guys come to Boston and simply can't handle the pressure--this year's victim--Cashner. Go back to Baltimore where clearly the losing atmosphere and no fans to worry about there helped him succeed.
  15. Also every crappy starter against the Sox can give up 10 or more hits and get out unscathed. Sox SP gives up 10 hits, 8 come in.
  16. Not watching, what was the deal on Lynn's shirt?
  17. Cashner was yet another pathetic addition to a s***** SP. What a joke, f***ing pathetic. Pitch a decent game for once.
  18. I'll say what I said before if the rotation has one good turn where all 5 of the SPs throw quality starts it could generate a streak going in right direction. We'll see, Porcello started a possible run? Go Sox!
  19. Question: Would you rather have Workman closing out games or Kimbrel at $17.25 million had he taken the Sox 1-year extension?? Just saying.
  20. A Realistic View at 2020: Preview: So who will be around in 2020?
  21. Purely you can seriously place blame on the complete breakdown of the Cy Young Trio--Price, Sale, and Porcello. They are crippling the team and sending it into a losing spiral of hell.
  22. Weber looked good against a Spring Training lineup. With that said, he did a lot better than Sale, Price, Porcello of late in any 3 to 4-inn stint performance. I like his sinker, I am fine with him getting a spot start. He earned one last night.
