  1. Guy is a legend already. Sky's limit for RD.
  2. No pressure baseball suits the Sox in 2019. When the pressure is off, the playoff chances faded away, the Sox relax and the pitchers hit their spots.
  3. Cora's best moves are the ones he shouldn't announce ahead of time to the media.
  4. Used to be let's get 9 innings, then it became can we get 6 or 7 and 100 is the pitch count? Then it became a good 5...now it's can you go 50 pitches? forget innings, it's now down to low, and lower pitch counts for guys who don't know what to do anymore because you can't stretch them out.
  5. Sybil Cora can't stick to a plan.
  6. What a game for Raffy. This kid amazes often.
  7. Actually, the balls are made today (and last many years) so that you can throw naturally and it will curve on its own.
  8. By the way, how many times have one of the posters here said "the season is over." It's been repeated I think in each of the last 10 losses.
  9. Owings was more Bob Bailey-ish, circa 1978
  10. When Walden was pitching in the 9th last night, right before the game's final pitch I thought, "He's got this great streak of not allowing anything and he's overdue to give up..."...it was over the fence before I finished my thought. That's the Sox Pen this year (except Workman).
  11. Countdown to PostSeason: Mookie At the Lanes
  12. Owings Sox career summed up in that one start. Blahawful
  13. note, while I agree that Bradley is an eyesore in the batting order and goes through bouts of nothing followed by some streaks, but mostly ends with a poor BAVG, OBP, and OPS, I just can't let that guy's defense go away. It doesn't justify his salary, but I'm so used to his mostly dazzling OF defense, I think it does make a difference (this year nothing makes a difference), but it did in a big way for sure last season. It's tough, I love the guy, and I hate him and I think that's his bizzarro world charm.
  14. EROD still has 13 wins and is one of the few SPs who has at least been competitive.
  15. At the end of wins over the past few years, the Betts-Bradley-Beni show would do the movie star of who was the best in the game, then they modified it, and this year when they do get together it's a sort of touch of gloves but it looks like the fun is gone. That's another reason the Sox suck. Team lost its silliness, sense of humor. People are too serious again, Betts included.
  16. How bout this team can't beat good AL teams or even mediocre AL teams. They have let some teams take games with low-scoring outputs by the Sox that a week later are coughing up beacoup runs*against other AL wildcard or division leaders. Sox are not a good team, they are basically average at best.
  17. I'm going to have to lay blame at least for the last 2 losses on Cora. He made decisions to sit key guys when rest is not a priority, but wins are. He set team up for failure. Maybe he's mailing it in. His odd pitching decisions and timing of the moves also disturbing. Bottom line, the team is officially done and it's not even middle of August.
  18. To add on the resting of players. I say this with less than 50 games to play. You can rest all you want once we are either eliminated or we win in the playoffs. It's really that simple. You play your best players--Benintendi might suck v. lefties of late, but so what. This has been an immense love affair with Sam Travis and while he's hit some bombs, he's not really the first option when there are so many other players who should be playing/hitting in front of him.
  19. Tough one. Cora still playing the sit guys for rest game when you don't need to (this actually first started under Jimy Williams back in the late 1990s when he introduced what I called the "mandatory rest" regardless of need.) It didn't work then, it's certainly not working now. It only works if you are winning and don't have to worry about making the playoffs. It's a strategy of doom. But Cora is no different than every other manager in today's game. They want to use all the toys at their disposal regardless of whether they work or not. Oh well.
  20. Might actually be just 1 year and then he may do the unthinkable....not retire, but go to a NY based team.
  21. Old school, grew up in Boston (Newton) and while my Celtics fandom basicaly died with Bias, then Lewis (renewed a bit in the championship Big 3/Pierce), I've always been a die-hard B's, Sox and Pats fan..it paid off after years and years of no titles.
  22. thanks Bells and Ty...you know I didn't really intend to post much. I was absent last few years much here and last year it was like everything the Sox did turned to gold. Phenomenal performances to the point where I told my brother after the Sox first week of the season, they were going to win 102. He laughed at that, scoffed and then they won 119 (overall). But even with the team seemingly out of playoff contention this year, I just can't stop watching them play. I am going to likely 2 games at Anaheim. I probably do a better job of being a fan when the Boston teams are not at their best, if only because you can see all the talent and the potential for winning. And when Sale throws a gem like last night, you get excited. It's natural. Meaningless? Probably, but still fun to watch. B's fans over on the other board, many in mourning, upset, and I'm like hey what a great run to get to the 7th game of Cup final. It was a remarkable adventure. Go Sox! Go B's! Go Pats!!! and even Celts!
  23. No I'm Spartacus!
  24. And to add, Hosmer was going to be the Sox big-ticket free agent and really that would have been yet another albatross salary to deal with, so money not spent there to get cheap Moreland went to Sale/Eavoldi.
