  1. FanGraphs projects Marcelo Mayer with 1.8 WAR, a wRC+ of 96 and an OBP of .309 in 125 games next year after the former No. 4 overall draft picked posted 0.4 fWAR, a wRC+ of 80 and an OBP of .272 in 44 games this year. However, Mayer homered in this poster's presence in June: https://www.mlb.com/gameday/red-sox-vs-mariners/2025/06/18/777453/final/box
  2. Cheer, cheer for old Notre Dame😉
  3. MLB.com beat reporter Ian Browne asks whether the Red Sox should trade Jarren Duran: https://www.mlb.com/news/jarren-duran-possible-trade-candidate-red-sox?p=0&partnerId=it-20251205-15969891-mlb-1-A&utm_id=it-20251205-15969891-mlb-1-A&lctg=7948633
  4. In the section on potential starting pitcher additions: "the Mariners, who have seemingly soured on Victor Robles in right field." Seattle is unlikely to trade from its starting rotation unless a trade partner is willing to assume Luis Castillo's entire contract. The Mariners already return three right fielders who in the past two years have posted seasons of 3.2 bWAR in 137 games (Luke Raley 2024), 3.1 bWAR in 77 games (Victor Robles 2024) and 1.6 bWAR in 82 games (Dominic Canzone 2025). With All Stars Julio Rodriguez and Randy Arozarena, the outfield is not among Seattle's most pressing needs this offseason.
  5. Not necessarily related, but over the past four seasons Seattle's Julio Rodriguez and Cal Raleigh have combined for 44.2 fWAR, an average of 5.5 fWAR per season per player: https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/major-league?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&month=0&ind=0&team=11&startdate=&enddate=&season1=2022&season=2025 The Mariners have signed long-term extensions with Rodriguez, who turns 25 this month, and Raleigh, who turned 29 last month. One might contend that the Seattle Mariners are top-heavy in position players.
  6. Jarred Kelenic's greatest contribution to the Seattle Mariners was being attached to the underwater contracts of Marco Gonzales and Evan White in a trade to Atlanta. The Braves have since dropped Kelenic while the Mariners still tenuously roster pitchers Jackson Kowar and Cole Phillips, the return in the Kelenic trade.
  7. FWIW Steamer projects Cole Ragans with a 2026 WAR of 4.2 in 172 innings over 29 starts and Jarren Duran with a 2026 WAR of 2.5 in 605 plate appearances over 133 games: https://www.fangraphs.com/projections?type=steamer&stats=pit&pos=&team=0&players=0&lg=all&z=1764733448&sortcol=&sortdir=desc&pageitems=30&statgroup=dashboard&fantasypreset=dashboard https://www.fangraphs.com/projections?type=steamer&stats=bat&pos=&team=0&players=0&lg=all&z=1764733448&sortcol=&sortdir=desc&pageitems=30&statgroup=dashboard&fantasypreset=dashboard Upcoming projections from other sources may flip those numbers because Ragans and Duran are difficult to project.
  8. Kansas City fans tend to overvalue Cole Ragans (just as Boston fans tend to overvalue Jarren Duran).
  9. A Kansas City blogger proposes a trade of Cole Ragans to Boston for Jarren Duran, Kyson Witherspoon and Jhostynxon Garcia: https://royalskeep.com/news-rumors/kansas-city-royals/what-would-it-take-for-kansas-city-to-trade-away-cole-ragans-r3968/
  10. A Kansas City Royals blogger has set his sights high on any trade of Cole Ragans to the Red Sox: https://www.royalsreview.com/hok-talk/91090/if-the-red-sox-want-cole-ragans#comments 😉 A Red Sox blogger offers his take: https://www.si.com/mlb/red-sox/onsi/boston-red-sox-news/red-sox-should-offer-this-4-player-trade-package-for-royals-cole-ragans-jackson3
  11. FWIW Cole Ragans would give the Red Sox three of the top nine pitchers in Steamer's projected 2026 WAR: https://www.fangraphs.com/projections?type=steamer&stats=pit&pos=&team=0&players=0&lg=all&z=1764560800&sortcol=&sortdir=desc&pageitems=30&statgroup=dashboard&fantasypreset=dashboard
  12. The current 2026 Steamer projections for Red Sox position players: https://www.fangraphs.com/projections?type=steamer&stats=bat&pos=all&team=3&players=0&lg=&z=1764474193&sortcol=&sortdir=desc&pageitems=30&statgroup=dashboard&fantasypreset=dashboard What, if any, changes need to be made this offseason?
  13. The Nationals are unlikely to contend over their remaining two years of team control over MacKenzie Gore.
  14. Pitchers Kade Anderson (No. 23), Ryan Sloan (No. 44) and Jurrangelo Cijntje (No. 90) are Top 100 prospects at MLB.com.
  15. A healthy Blake Snell would likely be preferred over Sonny Gray as the starter in a Game 2 of a postseason series but a durable Gray would be of more help in getting a club to the postseason.
  16. Check out the 2026 Steamer projections for Red Sox pitchers: https://www.fangraphs.com/projections?type=steamer&stats=pit&pos=all&team=3&players=0&lg=&z=1764387860&sortcol=&sortdir=desc&pageitems=30&statgroup=dashboard&fantasypreset=dashboard ... Yankee pitchers: https://www.fangraphs.com/projections?type=steamer&stats=pit&pos=all&team=9&players=0&lg=&z=1764387860&sortcol=&sortdir=desc&pageitems=30&statgroup=dashboard&fantasypreset=dashboard ... and Blue Jay pitchers: https://www.fangraphs.com/projections?type=steamer&stats=pit&pos=all&team=14&players=0&lg=&z=1764387860&sortcol=&sortdir=desc&pageitems=30&statgroup=dashboard&fantasypreset=dashboard
  17. FanGraphs projects 30-year-old Sandy Alcantara with 2.5 WAR and a 4.15 ERA next season in 31 starts covering 187 innings; https://www.fangraphs.com/players/sandy-alcantara/18684/stats?position=P Every pitcher carries risks.
  18. Any remote Seattle interest in MacKenzie Gore would be as a replacement for Luis Castillo as a No. 4 or 5 starter. Gore is projected to earn $4.7 million in 2026.
  19. FWIW MacKenzie Gore posted an ERA of 6.75 in 11 starts after his All Star appearance. Opponents posted a .288/.381/.492/.873 line against Gore in those 11 games.
  20. Absolutely not IMHO. The Twins front office may feel otherwise. According to Baseball Trade Values, Garrett Crochet had a surplus value of $53.4 million last December when the Red Sox traded for the left-hander: https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/179460 Baseball Trade Values currently assigns Joe Ryan a surplus value of $52.7 million and MacKenzie Gore a surplus value of $48.4 million.
  21. FWIW in their offseason plan the Locked On Mariners podcasters proposed a trade of six years each of catcher Harry Ford, right-hander Logan Evans and outfielder/inflielder Tai Peete for two years of MacKenzie Gore (with a separate dump of Luis Castillo's salary.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcK7lWfD7G0&t=252s
  22. Last offseason with two years of team control, Garrett Crochet was coming off a season of 4.6 fWAR/4.1 bWAR with an ERA+ of 115 in 146 innings. With two years of team control, Joe Ryan is coming off a season of 3.1 fWAR/4.5 bWAR with an ERA+ of 125 in 171 innings. With two years of team control, MacKenzie Gore is coming off a season of 2.9 fWAR/3.0 bWAR with an ERA+ of 98 in 159.2 innings. Ryan is four years older today than Crochet was last offseason. Gore is a year and four months older today than Crochet was last offseason.
  23. Seattle is highly. highly unlikely to trade left-hander Kade Anderson. A year ago the White Sox trade of Garrett Crochet netted Kyle Teel (No. 25 overall prospect), Braden Montgomery (No. 54 overall prospect), Chase Meidroth (No. 11 in Red Sox system) and Wikelman Gonzalez (No. 14 in Red Sox system)..
  24. A Locked On Nationals podcaster proposes that two years of MacKenzie Gore land three Top 75 prospects in Kade Anderson (No. 23), Harry Ford (No,. 42) and Jonny Farmelo (No,. 75) in a trade with the Seattle Mariners : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFlyFKGJSvY&t=956s That's more than the Red Sox surrendered last offseason for two years of Garrett Crochet.
