  1. In the unlikely event Luis Castillo is traded, Seattle would want an immediate impact bat with multiple years of team control. Kyle Teel's highest value comes at catcher where the Mariners have four more years of 27-year-old Cal Raleigh, who this year ranked third among all catchers with 4.7 fWAR (and third over the past two seasons at 8.8 fWAR).
  2. No one should defer to this poster's expertise. On anything.
  3. So would the Mariners but Luis Castillo could help Seattle land a productive bat (when free agent hitters are reluctant to sign with the M's).
  4. The Mariners might consider trading Luis Castillo to free up payroll to sign free agent lefthander Blake Snell, the Seattle native who reportedly wants to return home. Castillo has a no-trade clause.
  5. Traffic and parking are challenging but the immediate neighborhood of Oracle Park is not San Francisco's worst. I enjoy walking the 1.3 miles to the ballpark from the Ferry Building to the north. In May the Giants have a nine-game homestand -- including three games against Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers -- when I'll be in the Bay Area for my two daughters' commencements a week apart.
  6. Seattle may have some of the same perception issues (although Washington does not have a state income tax).
  7. Seattle fans are leveling similar criticisms at Mariner owners. For years the message was that the Mariners would spend for the finishing pieces after developing the cost-efficient young core of Julio Rodriguez, George Kirby, Cal Raleigh, Logan Gilbert, J.P. Crawford, Ty France, Bryce Miller, Bryan Woo, Matt Brash and Andres Munoz. Instead, coming off Mariner seasons of 90, 90 and 88 wins, the owners reportedly are looking to limit payroll. The Red Sox are not the only team with a frustrated fanbase.

  9. Minnesota fans compare the trade values of Alex Verdugo and Max Kepler: Verdugo trade good comp for possible Kepler trade? - Minnesota Twins Talk - Twins Daily TWINSDAILY.COM There's been various talk for the last few years about Kepler being traded. The Twins indication that they're going to be lowering payroll in 2024 is the driving factor this offseason while it's previously been about a perceived logjam of corner outfielders, especially ones that hit left handed. ...
  10. The Seattle Mariners reportedly checked in on Tyler O'Neill, their one-time Top 50 prospect, but apparently dodged the bullet. O'Neill can hang out with fellow British Columbian Nick Pivetta.

  13. Good point. The post has been deleted.
  14. Lucas Giolito could be the steal of the offseason.
  15. Apparently a good week to dump MLB salaries. Was Gleyber Torres at least on the table in trade talks?
  16. Seattle executive Jerry Dipoto promises to be "industrious": Which is more reassuring to fans: aggressive or industrious?
  17. A Red Sox vlogger humored Seattle fans with a trade proposal:
  18. Roman Anthony could be a future All Star or the next Ryan Kalish. Prospects are hard to project.
  19. Kristian Robinson has an interesting background: https://www.azfamily.com/2023/05/30/d-backs-prospect-kristian-robinson-reinstated-set-resume-career-after-legal-issues/?outputType=amp This summer Robinson had a return stint with a minor league club where I held a minimum-wage job. Everyone in the organization was pulling for Robinson.

  24. MLB.com lists its top five starting pitchers who might be available in a trade this offseason: Best starting pitchers available by trade in 2023-24 offseason WWW.MLB.COM We know that this winter’s free agent market is much stronger in pitching than it is in position players, but at the same time, we also know that there’s not nearly enough supply to meet demand. It’s not that hard to find a contender who could use a starter, because On Tuesday columnist Jim Bowden at The Athletic matched the Red Sox with free agent lefthander Blake Snell under a seven-year, $174 million contract: https://theathletic.com/5095038/2023/11/28/mlb-free-agents-hot-stove-matchmaking/
