  1. The mere mention of Eduardo Perez makes this Seattle fan cringe. On June 20, 2006, the Mariners traded a 20-year-old Asdrúbal Cabrera for the 36-year-old Perez in his final MLB season. Twentyt-six days later the M's traded a barely 24-year-old Shin-Soo Choo for a 29-year-old Ben Broussard, who played only two more MLB seasons. Fourteen years later Cabrera and Choo are former All Stars who remain contributors to their respective teams.
  2. Four days ago one poster raised the possibility that the 2018 Red Sox would be cleared of any wrongdoing: https://www.talksox.com/forum/threads/19676-Cora-fired?p=1301494#post1301494 ... only to be accused of being in denial.
  3. Former Oakland A's manager Art Howe, whom actor Philip Seymour Hoffman portrayed in the movie Moneyball, is among the products of the now-defunct baseball program at the University of Wyoming: https://www.baseball-reference.com/schools/index.cgi?key_school=7c795f0e
  4. I spent five good years as a young professor at the University of Wyoming.
  5. MLB reportedly found no evidence of wearable devices:
  6. Or Washington State. Or Wyoming. Although state and local income taxes are prorated on where each game is played. https://www.forbes.com/sites/kurtbadenhausen/2017/04/18/income-taxes-for-pro-athletes-are-reminder-of-how-complicated-u-s-tax-code/#79dcbe2c411e
  7. I can't vouch for these sources, but ... https://twitter.com/jomboy_/status/1217886556263940098
  8. Does Mookie Betts want to traded in light of the current circumstances? Would Betts prefer to be traded midseason to avoid the qualifying offer? Or is Betts so elite that the qualifying offer would not deter his suitors next offseason?
  9. Perhaps it would be better to get all the negative stuff out of the way at one time instead of dragging everything out. Or not.
  10. Not if Ron Roenicke was a whistleblower or took steps to stop any illegal practices. The investigation should uncover his role.
  11. ESPN columnist Jeff Passan reports that other owners are unhappy: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/28477741/why-anger-boiling-scenes-houston-astros-sign-stealing-punishments
  12. Fascinating franchise. Four World Series titles this century, three last-place finishes in the past decade, baseball's highest payroll the last two seasons, luxury-tax concerns hinder team's ability to keep big-ticket players, president of baseball operations fired before end of 2019 season, Red Sox part company with manager under pressure in January.
  13. No denial here ... just waiting for the results of the investigation.
  14. What if Rob Manfred and the MLB investigation find no wrongdoing by the 2018 Red Sox? Is it still "time to crush Manfred like the insect that he is"?
  15. MLB will almost certainly investigate all credible reports of sign stealing in violation of the announced rules. For all we know the MLB investigation may clear the 2018 Red Sox of any wrongdoing. Or not.
  16. Perhaps many, or most, teams put an immediate stop to any attempt to steal signs in violation of the announced rules. Or not.
  17. https://ethnicelebs.com/dustin-pedroia In light of the injury incident, it's interesting that Dustin Pedroia's paternal grandmother was apparently born with the surname of Machado.
  18. I thought the front office would notify Alex Cora that the Red Sox were actively looking for his replacement but waiting until MLB announced its sanctions before officially severing ties. Got that one wrong.
  19. A trade could still happen within a week.
  20. From Boston Globe columnist Dan Shaughnessy: https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/redsox/2020/01/14/red-sox-should-fire-manager-alex-cora-wake-cheating-scandal/yVLqHv4NweKeqQDgfG0R7N/story.html?et_rid=1739401789&s_campaign=108stitches:newsletter
  21. The point may have been made if Dustin Pedroia and another player from the San Joaquin Valley were under investigation for similar behavior the month the valley experienced yet another natural disaster. Or not.
  22. No accusation made, only a question that leaves open the possibility that the bench coach had no role.
