Have a Cuban take over right field, either free agent Yasiel Puig or a called-up Rusney Castillo. Be prepared for the Red Sox to use openers instead of starters a few times a week. Hope that the 2020 Red Sox can exceed lowered expectations with no delusions about being World Series contenders. Welcome the 2020-21 offseason and beyond with high hopes minus the current financial constraints. The Red Sox went all-in leading up the the 2018 World Series title and now should step back for one season to reload. Or not.

Dustin Pedroia has posted 46.6 fWAR and 51.7 bWAR over 14 seasons while Seattle righthander Felix Hernandez has posted 54.0 fWAR and 50.2 bWAR over 15 seasons, each a rare player who has stayed with one team over a decade. The former MVP and former Cy Young winner will likely fall short of the Hall of Fame, even with Hernandez seeking a second wind with the Atlanta Braves.

    The rowdy fans were probably across the street cheering on the current Major League Soccer champion Seattle Sounders, whose season overlaps with the Mariners' season. Or not. I tentatively plan to go up the Seattle in April to again watch the Mariners take a four-game series from the Red Sox for the second year in a row. Like last year, the Red Sox fans will be more vocal than the Mariner fans.

    The mere mention of Eduardo Perez makes this Seattle fan cringe. On June 20, 2006, the Mariners traded a 20-year-old Asdrúbal Cabrera for the 36-year-old Perez in his final MLB season. Twentyt-six days later the M's traded a barely 24-year-old Shin-Soo Choo for a 29-year-old Ben Broussard, who played only two more MLB seasons. Fourteen years later Cabrera and Choo are former All Stars who remain contributors to their respective teams.
