  1. Everyone in the trade -- including David Price -- needs to pass a physical.
  2. The outcome of the trade may depend on the health of David Price, Alex Verdugo and Brusdar Graterol. Or not.
  3. Does the trade open up a rotation slot for Brian Johnson, Matt Hall or Hector Velazquez?
  4. Red Sox fans should be grateful for the patience of Chaim Bloom.
  5. I too enjoy passing time by commenting on trade proposals but I humbly acknowledge that I have no insider information.
  6. The more I learn the more I am humbled by how little I know.
  7. If the Red Sox are shopping Mookie Betts, its's obvious the Sox want to slip under the luxury tax threshold. Perhaps the Dodgers and Padres are "sweating out" the Red Sox. And vice versa. It's the nature of negotiations. I suspect offers have been exchanged since November. Chaim Bloom apparently has been patient as the offers have gotten better, worse or stayed the same. We outsiders probably will never know.
  8. Only the restless would start a thread with this misleading title. It's your fault ... take responsibility.
  9. Irresponsible (in a recurring pattern).
  10. What qualifies as "competitive" for a franchise that has advanced to the postseason four times in the past decade, capturing two World Series titles, and winning a combined one game over the other two postseason trips? The Red Sox and their fans have survived a wide range of outcomes.
  11. Dodger blogger Matthew Moreno appears to be speculating: https://dodgerblue.com/mookie-betts-trade-rumors-dodgers-may-be-favorite-over-padres/2020/02/03/
  12. Kevin Plawecki remains under team control for three arbitration seasons.
  13. Even a prudent fan of Anthony Rendon would be unlikely to give Rendon that contract.
  14. Put more simply: What are the risks and what are the rewards of the Mookie Betts decision?
  15. The Red Sox advanced to the postseason four times over the past decade*, capturing two World Series titles, and winning a combined one game in the other two postseason trips. How many trips to the postseason can the Red Sox expect in the upcoming decade? Should that influence the pending decision on Mookie Betts? * over those 10 seasons the Red Sox ranked 2, 2, 3, 3, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and 1 in Opening Day payroll
  16. https://www.fangraphs.com/projections.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&type=steamer600 https://www.fangraphs.com/projections.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&type=steamer600&team=0&lg=all&players=0 But discarding "salary, years and taxes" lands us in fantasy land. https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/teams/516/
  17. Imagine what the Red Sox could have received in a trade of Mookie Betts a year ago if the Sox knew that they would finish 12 games behind the second Wild Card slot in 2019. His current trade value is limited by the single year of team control and the 2020 salary of $27 million salary (supported largely by his 2019 salary of $20 million coming off his 10+ WAR season in 2018).
  18. If that's the case Red Sox fans can enjoy Mookie Betts for one final season as the club tries for return to the postseason for the fifth time in 11 years.
  19. Baseball Trade Values approves a trade of Mookie Betts and Xander Bogaerts for Alex Verdugo, Corey Seager, Julio Urias and Austin Barnes (giving a slight edge to the Red Sox). The Red Sox aren't going there.
  20. According to one source, Dustin May, Corey Seager and Alex Verdugo have surplus values of $55.4 million, $52.1 million and $50.1 million, respectively: https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/teams/516/ ... for a combined value of $157.6 million. Mookie Betts has a surplus value of $50.7 million and David Price a negative value of $55.3 million: https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/teams/604/ ... for a combined negative value of $4.6 million. Do the math.
  21. The update from Boston Globe columnist Alex Speier: https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/redsox/2020/01/30/the-mookie-betts-watch-and-here-where-things-stand/RuLbZ0D1eUorOhd76MUwlM/story.html?event=event25
  22. What if Chaim Bloom loses Mookie Betts to free agency after another postseason-less year? Would that define his career?
  23. If A.J. Preller gets Mookie Betts and experiences another losing season (after losing 92 games last year), then loses Betts to free agency, he's probably gone. Mookie Betts might not be the solution to the Padres' woes.
