  1. If the Sox do sign Suzuki (which is far from a guarantee), it does very likely move Kike to 2b, at least vs RHP. If you have any faith at all in Bloom knowing what he’s doing, then it should be abundantly clear that he didn’t trade a starting outfielder who hit in the heart of the order for a bench player and two middling prospects all while taking on money. Bradley will be a starter…
  2. Reportedly the Sox acquired Bradley to strengthen defense. He won’t do that on the bench…
  3. It would make sense, as Le Mahieu can take 1b and Torres can play 2b. The team need for a LHH is massively overblown. But they seem high on Volpe. He’ll have to succeed in AA this year to justify it…
  4. Oh the Sox have definitely been rebuilding, just not at the MLB level…
  5. I’d say the Bradley in CF/Hernandez at 2b is a better defensive alignment than Hernandez in CF/Arroyo at 2b option…
  6. Carlos Rodon to SF for 2 years $44million, or roughly $1mill per every IP they can expect from him…
  7. Even without spending much the last two off-seasons, the Sox still had one of the highest payrolls in MLB…
  8. Oh we could go on and on about changes in the game. The league’s brief infatuation with the shift and its statistical impact will just be another forgotten footnote one day…
  9. Despite some complaints on this board, in reality Henry isn’t known among MLB owners for his cheapness…
  10. Is Ty Cobb considered the all time hits leader before artificial turf? With all the spectacles surrounding the chase for Babe Ruth’s home run record in 1961, did anyone mention Ruth did it without the benefit of foul poles? Yes. Ignored…
  11. Story isn’t looking at a Lindor contract, but Brandon Crawford got a 6 year $75mill contract at about the same age. What kind of stopgap deal would Story take? (Reportedly he wants 6 years $150mill.) Doable? I do like his defense, but I think I’d move on Paul DeJong from St. Louis, who have reportedly soured on him, before I gave Story that kind of deal…
  12. I would. Volpe has only played A ball. No one should ever even think about a prospect until they reach AA…
  13. That’s possible. So you think signing a 31yo shortstop for 5 years is better than signing a 27yo shortstop for 10? At what point do peak years matter?
  14. MLB had the same issue with the advent of artificial turf, the proliferation of the slider, the reduction of the mound, and, heck, the additions of the foul pole and ground rule doubles. All these changes had significant impacts on stats. And all of them were ignored in this regard…
  15. And Bloom was asleep at the wheel again. And just out of curiousity, who is Drew VerHagen?
  16. It would be phenomenal stupid to build a roster to hold a place for a player who might not even see MLB for 3-4 years. Casas was drafted out of high school 4 years ago and has yet to debut. A lot can happen between now and Mayer’s debut. He may not develop. His defense might not be as advertised. He might get injured a lot. He might need to be dealt for pitching. If the Sox have too many shortstops in 2026, there will be options then. But they will need someone at shortstop in 2023, 2024 and 2025 first…
  17. Doubtful. We’re all making those accusations with no proof anyway…
  18. That’s ok. Neither will I. With 15 new positions opening, I could see JD getting moved. I put the Mets as the most likely interested party, since Cohen has let his team spend like mad…
  19. Here meaning Florida, Boston, or the Talksox forum?
  20. The Sox didn’t promote Devers to Boston after 107 plate appearances in rookie ball…
  21. The notion that the Sox should ignore shortstop because they have Mayer is an even greater stretch than saying the Sox should ignore pitchers because they have Bello…
  22. Mayer shouldn’t be a factor. The Sox aren’t going to staff their 2022 roster to accommodate a kid who graduated high school in 2021. We really don’t know what is anti-Bloom, since this is the first time he will have access to money..
  23. I think a trade of Luke Voit for Paul DeJong makes sense. The Cardinals have reportedly soured on DeJong but he remains an excellent fielder who’d probably bat 8th or 9th in NY. Voit could walk into the DH role in St. Louis, and his departure clears up a very muddled NY infield and leaves them with their best defensive alignment (LeMahieu at 1b, Torres at 2b, Urshela at 3b, and DeJong at SS)…
  24. Also most 2b lack the same throwing arm as shortstops, meaning that just fielding the grounder makes for a more difficult play…
  25. If the 2b is playing SS and the SS is in short left field (thus mirroring a shift vs LHB), then the 1b has to cover the entire right side of the infield and still be able to take a throw at 1b. In a shift vs LHB, the third baseman doesn’t have that same level of responsibility. Sure he has the entire left side, but he doesn’t also have to cover 3b…
