  1. Who called Seabold a coup? Getting a cheap, controllable (albeit unspectacular) starter like Pivetta for a couple months control of two fading and increasingly ineffective RPs that have combined to pitch for about a dozen or so teams (including Boston) since that trade is coup enough for me. Anything from Seabold at all just makes it look worse for Philly..
  2. I’m probably the biggest Gallo supporter here and I would rank him as the third best option, and even that could go down since I have no idea who besides Laureano will be available via trade. Technically he’s the fifth best IMO but I took out the QO candidates (Nimmo and Judge) since I strongly doubt the Sox sign anyone with a QO. I do like the Benintendi suggestion for LF, with Verdugo going to RF. I see Benintendi as a lesser albeit healthier version of Nimmo and a potential leadoff hitter. And Ramon Laureano is a better option. I’m open to other suggestions, but I will discredit one I feel are unrealistic (like Judge) for that exact reason…
  3. That happens. The Sox saw something in Pivetta the Phillies didn’t and something in Schreiber the Tigers didn’t and something in Whitlock and German the Yankees didn’t. Of course it dues work both ways as the Sox also saw something in Ort that the Yankees rightfully did not see…
  4. Oh. Ok. Makes more sense.
  5. There is also the possibility that they were not as overly wild about Springs as we are all assuming, and he was simply the best (only?) player that could be had for Sam Travis…
  6. Perez looks like he just has a career year…
  7. Really it looks like that deal was a worthwhile gamble that they lost on. I don’t mind that so much. I also think that finding the Springs/Schreiber types might even be a repeatable skill for this office and they can do it again…
  8. Struggling to figure out how 3.4 fWAR in 94 games is 3.8 in 150. As your math is normally quite good, what am I missing?
  9. Considering the single season record is 223 (Mark Reynolds, 2009)..
  10. No, but his $23mill salary limits the ability to move him…
  11. Maybe Koudai Senga? He does look interesting but these Japanese guys seem to stay on the west cost alot. I think a lot comes down to whether or not the Sox can sign Bogaerts or how they replace him. Signing Bogaerts/Turner/Correa/Swanson might make Marcelo Mayer more available for a pitcher, especially if they are just as high on Mickey Romero s as they are on Mayer. I know Ceddane Rafaela is also mentioned as trade bait frequently, but he’s also the Sox only viable MLB outfielder between Boston and Greenville…
  12. So the Guardians are due…
  13. His postseason fell apart this year, but you should not deny he is still one of the most successful execs in the game. Think about it - they’re being labeled failures and picked apart for losing in the NLDS.. How much of that is because this is the first time they’ve failed to reach the NLCS since 2014 and only the second time since 2012. Is that somehow interpreted as failure now? Granted they do have a bloated payroll, and that will catch up with them very soon…
  14. The Dodgers lead MLB in bullpen ERA and fWAR. Are you saying they didn’t have a great pen?
  15. I never said that. I just said once the shift is banned, new defensive alignments will replace it. Are you one of those who believes the only way you can convince anyone that you’re not an idiot is to constantly belittle other people?
  16. Thank you. It’s like how I always expect you to be close-minded to others’ viewpoints. You’ve never failed and never will. But I do believe building towards “bullpen roles” is small market stuff. Teams that could not afford good pitchers got guys who excelled in certain situations. Billy Beane used to be all over this stuff. The closer himself bring a ninth inning specialist was never a thing until the A’s/LaRussa made it one. And there was never a logical reason ever to have a LOOGY in the bullpen except so as to run all the other arms in it. Just. Get. Good. Pitchers. If you’ve been watching baseball as long as you claim, you should know closers as ninth inning specialists is a relatively new thing. Also a relief ace is NOT the same thing as a set up guy. This has been explained to you multiple times. But then you’ve never failed me and never will.
  17. Why? These roles have too and for many teams will change over the course of the season, whether it’s injury, ineffectiveness, or simple overuse. Not to mention, not event reliever wants a specific role. Absolutely some do, but it’s not an absolute. Get the best pitchers you can. Having defined roles in the bullpen is small market stuff…
  18. Apparently he didn’t care what those complete strangers think. I suppose when not making Strawman/Old Red arguments, telling other people their opinions don’t matter while yours do is your only other tactic…
  19. Bradley absolutely solidified the OF defense, which needed help all throughout 2021. He didn't hit, but he also batted eighth/ninth, so he came up a lot less often. If you don't think OF defense is important, I have two words for you - Jarren Duran. And hey, if the Sox do not add another OF, he would be the starting LF right now...
  20. THe bullpen absolutely needs help. Just because people are talking about RF doesn't mean they think the bullpen is fine...
  21. I can promise Laureano is on the trade market, and I’ma huge fan here. Nimmo is expected to receive a QO. Judge certainly will, although that’s a negligible sacrifice when signing him. Screw Pederson, his pearl necklaces, his fantasy football tantrums, and his inability to hit LHP. And his s***** defense. And Haniger, who is overrated and never healthy. Gallo vs Benintendi vs Laureano vs “insert name here” for another trade candidate…
  22. He is the second free best agent option for RF among those listed at the position, and the best one who winter have a QO and demand $300mill+. I would prefer Gallo over anyone on that list. But in your typical Strawman Fashion, you clearly ignore my repeated (and I do mean repeated) campaigning for another OF altogether as a player I’ve called “their best target” and instead focus on something else altogether. I’m thinking the name “Strawman argument” should simply be renamed “Old Red Argument”… An argument can be made for signing Benintendi for LF
  23. What does his batting average in Yankee Stadium have to do with his ability to defend Fenway’s RF better than Verdugo?
  24. Of course. It helps that he’s facing the Yankees. But then, if Jon Gacy was managing against the tYankees in the postseason, I’d be debating myself left and right about rooting for him…
  25. 1985 was the first time the ALCS was a best of 7 and NOT a best of 5. Had it still been a best of seven in 1986, Dave Henderson never hits that home run and the Angels face the Mets…
