  1. It was a mess up, but one we shouldn’t see the effects from if any for three more years.
  2. “Poorer” is not necessarily “poor”. And I’m not sure Verdugo is inferior to Nimmo as a RF. But most are inferior to Nimmo as getting on base..
  3. That Japanese hurler Kodai Senga looks intriguing. Given the lackluster free agent pitchers this year, maybe Senga deserves a more serious than cursory look. And hopefully he will look beyond the west coast…
  4. Look at the bright side. Today might be his last game…
  5. But what about the best of three all in one park? Three out of four series went to visiting teams?
  6. They’re also one win away from advancing…
  7. There is a balance. I’m not opposed to that alignment. I’m also not sure I’d call it “poor D”.” Benintendi is a good LF
  8. Exactly. Pitching, defense and OBP. In whatever order you like…
  9. You’re not exactly dissuading me from Gallo, who slugged .458 with 38HRs in 2021…
  10. Fair, but if you think he gave up on Springs too early, doesn’t Hernandez get a chance, too? Maybe he did get a good deal…
  11. I’m pretty sure this statement applies to nearly every, if not every player in the minors…
  12. When Springs got traded, I think the overwhelming response was surprise anyone gave up anything for him at all. I’m not going to pretend I saw anything in him. Interesting that you already call moving Springs a bad move. Shouldn’t Hernandez get the same chance you’re calling out Bloom for not giving to Springs? Renfroe looked like a “sell high” move that improved the defense. I do think a big part of moving Renfroe was interest in Seiya Suzuki for RF. And again - early. While Binelas’ .630 OPS in AA at age 23 probably isn’t inspiring, at the same age, Renfroe posted a .670 OPS in AA. So again, is it already a bad move? What if Binelas is Renfroe 2.0?
  13. Getting nothing for the expanded Sam Travis trade doesn’t bother me. A lot of these 40 man spots will be worked out after the WS when the Sox have to add prospects (most notably Rafaela, Ward and Walter) along with injured players like Sale, Houck and msybe Taylor. Of course by then, a few spots will open up from free agency, too, like JD, Eovaldi, Strahm, and maybe Bogaerts if nothing is worked out…
  14. I do doubt the Cardinals go for that (I’m guessing BTV-approved) package, especially given Houck’s back surgery and that nobody loves Duran. (Not saying Houck won’t get traded, but not for a rookie with serious potential and a comical name like Nootbaar.) But I could see Donovan - with his lovely North Boston name - being a target for the Sox, although probably not for RF. And St. Louis might be wise to sell, as Donovan’s trade value is through the roof after his stellar season…
  15. Not sure who the trade market has left, but one likely candidate is a Oakland’s Ramon Laureano…
  16. “He walks too much. I want more weak ground outs to second.”
  17. A lot of it is the starters in the bullpen are often the team’s worst starter or a starter who has been recently injured…
  18. Nobody is saying Gallo is the answer; just that he’s a better answer than most of the free agent market.
  19. From the FA outfielder crowd, my rankings are 1. Nimmo 2. Gallo 3. Conforto. I suppose I could live with this choice, assuming his price has come down. 4. No one
  20. So you prefer Haniger, whose a worse defender and gets on base less often? And somehow I’m the one whose high? I suppose Haniger’s saving grace I guess is that at least he only brings his lesser defense and offense for maybe 70 games a year, freeing up a lot more playing time for someone who can make fewer outs with the bat and more with the glove…
  21. And I remain higher on Gallo than Haniger. But the Sox need - and I mean badly need - a good leadoff hitter. Nimmo is perfect, but if (when) he gets a QO, no way Bloom signs him. Of the remaining free agents who won’t or can’t get a QO (Gallo is ineligible), Gallo is the best OF candidate…
  22. Or his account was HACKED!!
  23. We could do worse. I’m actnot opposed to Gallo and remain the only forum poster who openly campaigned for the Sox to acquire him last August. That said, defense and OBP are my top two criteria for a RF, and despite a keen batting eye, Gallo is not much for OBP. Interestingly if you look up DRS and UZR for RF over the last 3 years ( with low innings), Franchy Cordero is a top ten defensive RF…
  24. I did say “about the same.”….
  25. Joey Gallo is 28 and been worth 15.1 fWAR. Haniger is 31 and been worth 11.7 fWAR. Gallo strikes out a ton but he is also a terrific defensive outfielder…
