  1. There’s also the career factor. With Story, he’s definitely seen better seasons, but the best you can say about Dalbec and Duran is “they’ve had hot streaks on occasion.” And certainly Coors has helped Story, but guess what park ranks second in hitter advantage?
  2. A lot of that is the artificial stigma you’re putting on last place. By virtue of being in last place, it becomes arguable that the Sox might have the toughest schedule among teams competing for the postseason, and will eventually play 76 games against teams within their division that are all over .500 (assuming Baltimore stays at that pace). The Red Sox and the White Sox have similar payrolls and similar records, but only one of them gets to play 38 games (roughly 1/4 of their schedule) against the Tigers and Royals…
  3. Interesting theory, but the Occam’s Razor is that he’s just facing a boatload of pitchers he’s never seen before, and it’s made extra tough because contact wasn’t his forte against the guys he was familiar with…
  4. Oh I’m not stating when Hosmer gets DFAd or who goes before or after him. Just that he WILL get DFAd because there’s no contract to cling to as a reason to keep him. And he’s not very likely to force the issue with his lackluster play…
  5. This is a little odd Ok, maximum points awarded for the passion here. But the Sox are a .500 last place team. Of all the potential acquisitions to spark optimism, you like the career utility infielder having the season of his life? I see Drury as a guy due to fall back to Earth anyway now. Not that Hosmer excites me. The only good thing about Hosmer is he isn’t Franchy Cordero. But he’s just here to hold the door for Casas, and then Eric will get DFAd (with SD still paying his whole salary) and sign with KC to finish out his career. I see this team as sort of breaking even this deadline. The step down from Vazquez to McGuire/Plawecki/Hernandez(?) is probably about the same as the step up from Cordero/Dalbec to Hosmer. But then at some point, if the Sox are going to make up the necessary ground and leapfrog the necessary teams, it’s got to come from the players. And a lot of them have been underperforming this year…
  6. OMG.!! I didn’t know it appeared on Twitter!!! And who still uses Twitter?! Well, at least you cited a source…
  7. Hosmer is a stopgap 1b and future DFA fodder. His minimum wage won’t he hard to cut…
  8. Going out on a rather sturdy limb, but I’m saying that is 100% not true…
  9. Most of those flowers, err prospects, are unranked and barely regarded as much…
  10. Drury (whom my auto correct likes to call “Furry”; does auto correct know something about Brandon?) can be stuck just about anywhere. In his career he’s never been a catcher nor a center fielder; he’s played everywhere else…
  11. No idea. Pham probably accepts his part of the mutual option. But players who accept mutual options often do so because they know (re: are advised) they are not likely to find better deals…
  12. It’s not talking him down. He’s not a core player. You don’t build a team around Christian Vazquez. You build a team around core players with Christian Vazquez. McGuire is a career backup type. Good defensive catcher with limited to sporadic offense. He was once considered a good prospect, but he’s likely headed to a career as a journeyman backup that will play on 8-10 different teams over his career…
  13. Vazquez isn’t a solid core starter. He’s a decent defensive catcher capable of streaky offense. He had 3 months left before free agency on a team heading in the wrong direction rapidly…
  14. I’d have liked a bullpen arm…
  15. OPS vs RHP/LHP Bradley .617/.419 Pham .639/.834 So better D vs RHP and Pham gives better O vs LHP…
  16. Frankly I don’t get why San Diego moved him. He’s probably better around the bag than Bell and could have pushed him to a DH role. They’re hardly saving any money. And they will need a 1b after this season anyway…
  17. Story OPS on the road is basically the same as Bogaerts’. Should we avoid X, too?
  18. Story was still one of the most productive bats in the lineup and has been a revelation defensively. Not real sure why you’re trashing that move…
  19. What is your point? That Bloom “settled” for Schwarber? Schwarber was a big part of the Sox postseason run. Interesting you value winning trade deadlines and media grades on deals more than winning postseason games…
  20. Hosmer wasn’t much of a salary dump. Per MLBTR, the Padres are paying all but a league-minimum-sized portion of his salary. He’s with the Sox for three years or until they DFA him, whichever comes first. (SPOILER ALERT: The DFA will come first.)
  21. Yeah poor Bloom had to settle for Schwarber last off-season. And he had to suffer that humiliation all the way to the ALCS. Rizzo took the Yankees that far, too, right?
  22. He’s only a Yankee until November. His entire career in pinstripes will likely be a small sample size. In any event, right now he is not representing the immediate OF upgrade the Yankees were looking for…
  23. That’s not the full criticism of Dombrowski. He also ran up the payroll with a lot of expensive and unfavorably long contracts that are still impacting this team…
  24. I’m willing to bet Bogaerts is closer to $150/6 and Devers is closer to $250/8. Soto was a 15 year offer, a rarity these days that Bogaerts and Devers shouldn’t expect…
  25. Really? You think the Sox with $77mill tied up in three pitchers who showed up part time was better? They were better when the team payroll forced the trade of Mookie? Again, this is the fallout from 3 years ago. If you liked the 2018-2019 teams, they were a fun party. But just like after any party, someone has to wash the dishes, clean the whiskey and dessert toppings out of the fish tank, and remove the X-rated murals from the ceiling that your disdusting yet artistic friend decided to tribute to Michaelangelo. That’s been Bloom’s job so far…
