  1. The rotation probably mostly exists on paper. It’s easy (and to some degree, logical) on the forum to discount Sale and Paxton. But as they will (if/when Paxton’s option is picked up) combine for $40-ish mill in AAV. they won’t be ignored. With Pivetta likely back (although he could certainly be traded) and Bello making a strong push, the rotation could require a single pitcher at the MLB level. With Eovaldi likely getting a QO, and Wacha earning attention, the rotation for 2023 might already be in the organization. Of course, depth beyond Mata, Ward, and Crawford will become essential…
  2. Stack the pen…
  3. And there comes the “careful what you wish for.” The Dalbec/Cordero platoon has quietly combined for 19 HRs, placing 1b as the Sox second best power position. That can be read into multiple ways….
  4. Most bench players have a degree of volatility. It’s what keeps many of them from being starters…
  5. Yeah but everything could be different by then. Duran remains the unflavored but existent option. But by early 2023, it’s possible someone like Wilyer Abreu or Cedanne Rafaela plays himself into the picture. I think getting a starting lineup is more important than knowing the backups especially for the players who don’t have significant injury histories…
  6. I would think even two years out was impossible, and ultimately useless. By the time that gets relevant, half the names could be injured. Soxprospects tries to do it one year in advance, and has shown it to be highly inaccurate ad yield any information beyond the intuitively obvious. And that’s one year. What would a 5 year one look like? The only current starters that might still be with the team are Story and Casas. And Casas just made that list this weekend…
  7. A Verdugo-Kike-Nimmo outfield who’d make so happy my bellybutton would squirt jelly…
  8. I like Verdugo in RF and don’t see the issues everyone else sees. And I would only send him back to LF if the Sox acquired a better defensive RF. For example, Ramon Laureano, whose arbitration eligibility makes him available, should certainly prompt a return of Verdugo to LF if he were acquired…
  9. Rob Refsnyder, front and center. But normally we want a lineup before we worry about who backs it up…
  10. Certainly Story could remain at 2b, but you have to think part of the reason he was signed was just in case Bogaerts wasn’t. I really doubt Marcelo Mayer has any impact made on 2023 decisions, and I don’t think he should. Maybe the Sox go short term at 2b (Kolten Wong? Adam Frazier) and move Story to shortstop, and stop worrying about Mayer until he has some success in AA first. Or maybe the Sox use the Enmanuel Valdez/Christian Arroyo platoon and sign no one for the position. This might mean all they need is a RF…
  11. Nice. CF taken care of. Now lock up Bogaerts and Devers…
  12. I’ve called out some stupid Cora strategies (Houck piggybacking, early Rich Hill usage), but he’s still a good manager…
  13. Hopefully less polarizing…
  14. So the Yankees were wrong for trading three time consensus top 5 prospect Jesus Montero? Gawd we get such stupid trolls…
  15. Face the Sox bullpen? Matt Barnes has never seen the slump he couldn’t end…
  16. The only thing I disagree with is IKF playing over his head. He’s a very good player…
  17. I do get more convinced Story was the right move every time I watch him play…
  18. Who runs this site? Scott Boras? The only thing I know for sure is Nimmo’s agent doesn’t…
  19. Because the only way Eovaldi should return is by accepting a QO. While he was actually relatively healthy during his 4 years with Boston - at least compared to the rest of his career - he shouldn’t come back on anything longer than a one year deal. Especially given how he’s pitched this year. He’s 32, coming off a bad year, and has a past plagued with injuries. He isn’t going to get healthier and more effective in his 30s. One year max on a Qualifying Offer…
  20. I think they pick the option up. They knew the risks when they signed him and the bulk of moves last off-season always felt like they were more about 2023…
  21. I forgot about Barnes. I assume the fifth starter to be Wacha or Eovaldi…
  22. I’m ok with Bassitt. I’m ok with Manaea. And even Bradley to an extent. But please no Rodon or Haniger. Haven’t we had enough injury trouble this year?
  23. From the anticipated roster (meaning only those in the org after FAs declare): C: McGuire, Wong 1b/DH: Casas, Hosmer, Dalbec 2b: Arroyo? Valdez? SS: Story 3b: Devers LF: Cordero? Duran? CF: Refsnyder? RF: Verdugo? SP: Sale SP: Paxton SP: Pivetta SP: Bello SP: ? CL: Houck? RP: Schreiber RP: Whitlock RP: Crawford RP: Winckowski RP: German RP: Kelly? RP: LHP? D Hernandez? Taylor? Now some extensions or new deals or QOs will fill some slots from within, possibly with Eovaldi and/or Wacha. The INF is probably all already here, especially if they extend/bring back Bogaerts. The OF? Beyond Verdugo, there isn’t much. So basically 2 OF and a 2b or SS.
