  1. Maybe. From what I gathered at the time, Mookie was dessert on racing free agency. That it took 5 months, a cancelled spring training, and roughly 50-60 cancelled games before Mookie FINALLY actually signed an extension does not deter me from this line of thinking…
  2. The thing as, it’s hard to think of Boston, which is part of a smaller metropolitan area than Phoenix, as a market capable of competing with NY and LA. But a lot of people seem to think we are all the same size…
  3. I doubt Devers ever approaches the 2022 Aaron Judge. But Judge spent a lot of time in his 20s on the Injured List and I seriously doubt this changes into his 30s
  4. Ok. But Devers isn’t asking for 7 years $245 million. Not even close to it…
  5. The “PR” scenario really doesn’t generate the positive PR you think it does. When the Sox let Clemens walk away and continue to rack up Cy Young awards, was anyone thinking “at least the Sox tried”? Heck DD tried to extend Mookie and very likely went as high as he was allowed, but people STILL think the Sox should have made another useless offer for show…
  6. But that is what fans want…
  7. Who says the Sox are unwilling to pay FAIR market share? Just because a player demands an exorbitant amount of money does NOT mean that’s a fair market price. Why is is fair for the Sox to give more money to Devers than the younger, better Austin Riley got here?
  8. If Devers is not in prime years at ages 32 and 33, why sign 30yo Brandon Nimmo at all?
  9. The Sox may simply not be a big market team whose plan is to capitulate to the demands of every player..
  10. I’d hate to see the Sox have to walk away from $27-30mill AAV on Devers because the spent $22mill on Nimmo…
  11. Definitely the latter…
  12. Didn’t go for Judge? And the $340-400mill rumors? None of them are going to be worth it. I do like that Nimmo’s contract is predicted to be 4-5 years. Correa is 8-10. So if Correa starts to decline in 5 years, you have a minimum of 3 years and $100mill in deadweight dragging down the team. Could be ugly. Let’s just go get Adalberto Mondesi for next year and then Mayer in 2024…
  13. Or a “My male enhancement medication works better than yours” type of thing. And that was just something I never wanted to know about Jimmy Johnson…
  14. I’ve been the captain on Steamship Nimmo for a while now, but I really struggle to think of him as a $20mill player. He does have skills and his injury rep might be a tad overblown, but it feels heavy. Of course I’m fine with heavy if it’s for 4 or 5 years. Heavy for 7+ years makes my bladder madder and my liver quiver
  15. Two players with qualifying offers or two players without? I’ve made my prediction…
  16. I also have more faith in his ability to defend RF at Fenway than any other available option…
  17. Most non-Padre fans around the country breathed a huge sigh of relief when he signed there…
  18. Nobody out of the maybe 4 or 5 teams that have luxury tax concerns…
  19. But his acquisition means Hosmer wasn’t dealt to free up a 40 man roster spot…
  20. The best value and fit will be Gallo. 2 years $25mill. Book it…
  21. But how does Buddy Biancalana rank?
  22. Adjust your priorities accordingly….
  23. Is that worth it consignments with Josh Bell reaching free agency they might need a replacement at 1b anyway?
  24. They took on Groome, who required a 40 man spot…
  25. It looks to me like San Diego pays (nearly) full fare. Which means what exactly did this trade do for them?
