Maybe. From what I gathered at the time, Mookie was dessert on racing free agency. That it took 5 months, a cancelled spring training, and roughly 50-60 cancelled games before Mookie FINALLY actually signed an extension does not deter me from this line of thinking…

I doubt Devers ever approaches the 2022 Aaron Judge. But Judge spent a lot of time in his 20s on the Injured List and I seriously doubt this changes into his 30s

The “PR” scenario really doesn’t generate the positive PR you think it does. When the Sox let Clemens walk away and continue to rack up Cy Young awards, was anyone thinking “at least the Sox tried”? Heck DD tried to extend Mookie and very likely went as high as he was allowed, but people STILL think the Sox should have made another useless offer for show…

Who says the Sox are unwilling to pay FAIR market share? Just because a player demands an exorbitant amount of money does NOT mean that’s a fair market price. Why is is fair for the Sox to give more money to Devers than the younger, better Austin Riley got here?

If Devers is not in prime years at ages 32 and 33, why sign 30yo Brandon Nimmo at all?

Didn’t go for Judge? And the $340-400mill rumors? None of them are going to be worth it. I do like that Nimmo’s contract is predicted to be 4-5 years. Correa is 8-10. So if Correa starts to decline in 5 years, you have a minimum of 3 years and $100mill in deadweight dragging down the team. Could be ugly. Let’s just go get Adalberto Mondesi for next year and then Mayer in 2024…

I’ve been the captain on Steamship Nimmo for a while now, but I really struggle to think of him as a $20mill player. He does have skills and his injury rep might be a tad overblown, but it feels heavy. Of course I’m fine with heavy if it’s for 4 or 5 years. Heavy for 7+ years makes my bladder madder and my liver quiver
