  1. I’d argue there was a cliff. And the Sox plummeted over the edge in 2020…
  2. Yes I can name those pitchers, too. So are you arguing that the Phillies bullpen, 23rd in MLB in ERA last year was good? Right after saying the 2021 Red Sox Diekman-free bullpen, which was 13th in ERA, was bad?
  3. It could be enormous. Or nothing. It could be Cohen admitting to collusion with the Yankees. Or it could be him trying to give an excuse to his fans about why he isn’t dropping $400mill on Jusge…
  4. If you look at the 2021 Red Sox and the 2022 Phillies, what do these teams tell you about the importance of a bullpen?
  5. And now the alleged strategy for the New York Yankees and Mets - COLLUSION! Apparently Andy Martino has found the Mets (primarily so far) and Yankees seem to have the exact same type of agreement on free agents that MLB has been sued for three times already. It does seem more the Mets, but then Asian those are the only people Martino has talked to. But this could get very, very ugly…
  6. I don’t think whether or not it surprised them matters and I don’t think the roster was as full of holes as many claim. One issue fans struggle to acknowledge is that the gap between the best and worst MLB teams is significantly closer than the equivalent gap in other sports. And that’s why teams can turn around fast and why trans can put together surprisingly stellar seasons despite being “full of holes”…
  7. A bit misleading since December to mid-February was a league-wide transaction-free lockout…
  8. Why would the Sox want to be under at the beginning of the season? Especially after making the LCS in 2021? The window was open then. The big issue to me was not replacing Sale once his injury was known. Even if replacing him meant adding a reliever to backfill for Houck/Whitlock…
  9. I don’t mind staying over the threshold. They were trying to get into the playoffs. Not like they knew Eovaldi was going to collapse and only make two more starts after the deadline. They traded a catcher, managed to replace him with a guy who actually hit much better, got a 1b acquired a bunch of prospects, and dumped Diekman Sure they needed a hot streak to get in, but that’s hardly unheard of. And once in, anything can happen. Philly barely eked into the postseason and then ride that wave to the World Series. They did need at least one arm, probably more. But I don’t mind that they at least tried rather than playing out the string…
  10. With the changes we’re seeing in the game, such as no shift, it would not surprise me if Bogaerts want their first choice at shortstop. Especially if he is still adamant about not changing positions (which he might not still be). I always assumed Story was Plan B after Suzuki didn’t happen. That may or not not be the case, and we’ll probably never know…
  11. Is that really true to the Bloom Era? There have always been Sox connections to players that aren’t elsewhere, going back to Lou Gorman to Duquette to Epstein to Cherington and even with Dombrowski. It might be a little worse now, but don’t you sort of expect that when the team has no farm and has been in the process of trying to get some control wrapped around a $230mill payroll. I mean, if you have no budget and no farm, Joe do you add players?
  12. That’s actually the problem with the Ruld 5 draft. Players lose a year of development. Teams lose a year of control. In most cases, who wins?
  13. The Marlins DFAd longtime Notin man-crush Eleiser Hernandez. But I think at this point even I might not go above an MiLB contract for him…
  14. If they want to make a pick at all. The Garrett Whitlock picks are a definite rarity…
  15. That’s what Ronaldo Hernandez is for!!
  16. If you’re going to hold being 26 against Ward, how old is Ort again?
  17. And I am openly criticizing Bloom for protecting Ort (especially Ort) and Chang while leaving Ward and Wallace exposed…
  18. No spots open. Sox cannot make a Rule 5 selection without an open 40 man roster spot..
  19. So Bloom is not as high on Jacob Wallace as I am, or feels he won’t get selected. But here’s the thing - he will…
  20. I’ve seen a few other teams linked to Heaney already. He’s already getting more attention than he’s worth IMO. I did not predict him to Boston in the MLBTR free agent contest. Apparently I predicted Baltimore. For Boston, I predicted Correa, Eovaldi, Rogers and Clevinger. I do doubt they sign all four…
  21. The issues with Heaney aren’t so much talent as they are durability…
  22. Well if you and I could figure out that’s true best way to use him, why do you think the Sox couldn’t?
  23. What if it was something radical like using Heaney as a closer?
  24. That was me. Again, I’m the more handsome one…
  25. 1. Yes the Mariners have not had depth like this since they had Danny Hultzen, James Paxton and Luis Gohara. Hopefully this crew is more successful. 2. Acquiring Houck would free up the Mariners to deal a prospect or two. It’s not a bad thing. 3. It gets them out of Crawford’s contract.
