  1. Devers is 26. Most players have their best years from 27-32. He could easily improve…
  2. His numbers should get a slight boost without the shift, too…
  3. If both Boston and Houston agreed with the BTV model that this deal needs more to be equal, the Astros will fill that gap with minor leaguers and not from their bullpen. And Bloom would very likely agree, assuming he liked the prospects…
  4. The only thing “wrong” with Renfroe is his projected salary in arbitration doesn’t fit the budget of a small market team that has multiple MLB-ready prospects that play his position…
  5. Trade Yelich to who? The guy has back issues that sapped his power and the market for declining singles hitters owed $150mill over the next 6 years isn’t remarkably robust…
  6. But is he worth the $300mill he reported wants?
  7. Brewers missed the postseason by one game but have legitimate budget concerns. They’d prefer to pay any or all of Brandon Woodruff, Corban Burnes, and Devin Williams over Renfroe. If you are their GM, you would too. Plus they have a slew of OF prospects. If this trade was all about selling high on Renfroe, the Brewers wouldn’t be trying to catch lightning in a bottle; they’d be able to trade him for good prospects…
  8. Renfroe moves on to the Angels. This will make 5 teams in 5 years for him…
  9. Just because BTV accepts didn’ doesn’t mean Houston does. I can see them dealing from depth, but not depleting it too much…
  10. I doubt Houston does that, despite it working on BTV. But even a straight up 1 for 1 deal is fine. Especially since Urquidy has 3 years of control left…
  11. So did the MLBTR article on Houston needing LHH outfielders inspire some discussion on Verdugo-for-Urquidy trades? IMO, I make that deal immediately with no regrets. And I like Verdugo…
  12. To be clear, it didn’t look like Dusty was singling out Contreras Reading between the lines, Baker didn’t want a pending free agent that wanted playing time to enhance his future payday. And Dusty didn’t want to fix something that wasn’t broken. Apparently he felt Vazquez would be more amenable to a backup role He was probably right, too…
  13. Dombrowski is being given a chance to improve. Click can only do worse next year and was pre-emotively fired before doing so…
  14. Sox go up $25mill. Devers comes down the same. Then slap a signature on it and carve up that Cookie Puss!!
  15. Somewhere off in the distance, Ronaldo Hernandez’ ears are burning…
  16. I’m not sure if the Sox are considering Correa, but I don’t think they’re considering Bogaerts all that seriously…
  17. I think the “under 30 starter” will be Whitlock. I’m ok with that s long as they Sox add a couple quality arms to the bullpen. I’m still on Fulmer. I think Estevez would be a good get too
  18. I always thought the fear with being Tampa North had more to do with budgets and baseball. Apparently there are also fears we replicate their stadium. Maybe a name change too. Like maybe we can be the Boston Famous Original Rays. Or is that moniker more fitting for a New York team?
  19. I think only Uehara and Napoli had any staying power. Although Dempster had the decency to retire and not be an albatross…
  20. Paxton and Sale are both really just partial rotation slots. The Sox need pitchers that can be demoted on the rare occasion either (or both) are actually healthy. Bello is very one. But counting on, say, Mata to be the other is just getting too hopeful. Most likely the Sox grab someone like Kluber and hope the injuries all line up. Really this team needs 8-10 options counting the MiLB guys like Mata, Bello and Crawford…
  21. The last exciting and effective one was 2012-13 Victorino, S Drew, Napoli, Dempster and especially Uehara…
  22. Tampa has made the playoffs FOUR years in a row. This is a big difference because Boston has never done that. Never…
  23. Has he put the trophy wife back in the case yet?
  24. Reyes had shoulder surgery in May/June will not be ready to start the 2033 season. His return date is unknown just yet, but he probably gets back on the mound a good 2-3 days before his next injury…
  25. Add Senga to the list of free agents Boston has contacted. Unknown sources have confirmed this. For what that odd worth…
