    Is Bloom the guy setting the limit here? It’s certainly possible he determined Bogaerts would be an albatross after 5 or 6 years and therefore wouldn’t go any further. (He might be right on that, too.). But it’s also possible Henry capped the budget or vetoed longer deals…

    I don’t think anyone thinks the Sox should have matched or topped that insane offer. I think the feeling is of the Sox had started out with a 6-7 year $150-170mill offer, X would still be here…

    They have to spend 162 games on the active MLB roster aka the 26 man roster. If they go on to 60 day IL, then those games continue counting when they get activated. (Like what happened with Adam Stern in Boston.)

    The Sox spent about $45.5 mill in AAV so far. And they have acquired 3 RPs and an OF. Xander, if it happens, probably brings this close to $70mill. Now if the $80mill figure is accurate, not much room left. And they would still need a SP or two, and could use upgrades at DH and catcher…
