If they do anything beyond simply trading for/buying Song, than Dombrowski is a moron. If he still has faith in Song after 4 years but gives up after a couple bad innings, he’s a moron. If he keeps Song through his struggles and lets him take beatings in the bullpen that cost Philly games (either through losing his outings or making the rest of the pen work harder), then Dombrowski is a moron. DD spent what $400 or $500 mill this off-season. Is he really going to keep a pitcher with 0 IP in 4 years stick on his bullpen? He has no one more capable in the entire organization? DD will make a trade. Or he’s a moron…

Probably worth noting that hasn’t happened yet. And Song stands a good chance to be more of an obstacle than an aid in defending that pennant. I seriously doubt Dombrowski is going to risk his season after shelling out several hundred million on hoping Song isn’t too rocky at the back of the bullpen. What you’re missing is that if Dombrowski keeps Song, it’s a bad move. Like an idiot move. Unless he completes a trade so Song can be optioned…

Song’s entire professional career consists of 17 innings in Lowell in 2019. Its a bit of a stretch to think of him as a “young MLB arm”. And while his 3.80 K/BB that year was impressive, it was less than the 3.94 of Aldo Ramirez (in 61 IP!!). You know, the nobody we dealt for Schwarber who peaked in A ball and didn’t even pitch last year…

The Phillies will swing a deal for Song. No way they keep a pitcher whose only professional experience is 17 innings of low A ball 4 years ago on their MLB roster all year while trying to defend the NL pennant. If no deal can be reached, expect Song to be returned…

The Sox payroll isn’t one of the top 6 in MLB for the first time in a long time, including the largely ineffective 2020 roster. One year with a mid-range payroll isn’t necessarily a white flag. Especially with the two biggest free agents in MLB history potentially hitting the market in the next two years…

Maybe they do. Arroyo could certainly be better than Andrus, but his history has a lot of risks. I’m surprised they didn’t try harder for Andrus, who certainly wasn’t looking for big money or long years. At least not at this point…

Severino has thrown 120 IP since 2018. Even Sale and Paxton have thrown more. While the bulk of Severino’s IP did come last year, he was hardly without incident. He made as many starts after June as he made during June. But hey, he’s in his prime!!

“If they can stay healthy” is the point. A healthy Sale/Paxton/Kluber/Whitlock/Pivetta has just as much potential as the Yankees rotation. But it’s also not likely all of them stay healthy. And Bello - if healthy - can only make up for one. Also - Schmidt is a relief pitcher. The Yankees need to wake up to that fact…

The Yanks biggest issue is already clear - starting pitcher health, just like Boston. Montas is already down. Cortes is injured, but likely not seriously. Rodon and Severino are accidents waiting to happen. So the question might how far can Cole and German carry this team?
