Well, the other “Dombrowski Special” deal at shortstop really set the market for Boras to ask for on Bogaerts. We knew Judge’s deal would be monstrous after a historic season. But other than him, this is actually a weak overall free agent class for this type of spending…

    I started the “extend Bello and Casas” thread last September. Of course I was thinking more like a 5 year $30mill or 6/$36 deal for Bello

    So do I. But at some point, you gotta find the strike zone. Walking people at 100mph over walking people at 90mph really isn’t the way to speed up games…

    I’ve been calling him out on that one repeatedly. My point is if the Sox are cheap, I’d rather have someone like Bloom and be Tampa North than not and be Detroit East…

    Ort did have the third highest velocity on the staff last year, behind German and Bello. But right behind him tied for fourth we’re Robles, Sawamura and Brasier…

    Except that just keeping Ward past the rule 5 draft itself might have been with something. Even if the Sox needed the 40 man spot at some point, Ward could have at least been dealt for non-40 man prospects. The best you can get by trading Ort is that you get rid of Ort. I’ve given some Bloom moves some leeway to see how they work out. But this one is indefensible to me…

    But.. but .. but some guy found some scouts who didn’t like him. He probably found some that did, but he “forgot” to put those wires in the article. Lost in all this is the Sox signed him for only 5 years at what used to be an excessive AAV, but really is 4th starter money these days.

    But if they didn’t extend him, he would have left two years ago. His stats are irrelevant to that swap just like how we don’t compare Sale to Kopech as an evaluation of that deal…

    The Sox shed over $40mill in payroll in the Betts deal, which was the entire point. I don’t think getting back as many good prospects as possible was the priority. If it was, the Sox wouldn’t have attached Price and might have even paid some of Betts’ salary. Anyone still complaining about what the Sox got for Betts clearly thinks this is just like Fantasy Baseball…

    When they hired Bloom, many feared they wanted to become the new Rays. To me, right now I hope we become the new Rays. My fear is we become the new Tigers…

    The only thing I liked about the Story signing was it quelled any fears of the Sox being small market. That may have passed. Watch them try to unload Story now…

    I simply asked you how DD would improve this team with only $80mill to spend. You copped out by saying DD would never work under those conditions. And somehow actually thought that was praise for DD. The sad part is, you actually just explained why this team needs someone like Bloom right now, and don’t even know you did it. Unless of course you’re dead wrong…

    I think it was probably his record vs his budget. It’s one thing to build an 86 win team. It’s another to spend a quarter of a billion doing it…

    DD worked for him on the Marlins from 1999 to 2001. The Marlins were not a large market big spender back then. You’re trying to speak for DD against a history that counters it..

    100% behind this. Bogaerts appears to have been a financially motivated loss. Ort over Ward was just stupid (assuming Ward didn’t have done serious issues I know nothing about)…

    DD worked for him twice and didn’t leave Boston by his own choice. Nice try. But again you won’t answer a simple question. About as surprising as a daily sunrise…

    I had mixed thoughts. He was injured in 2019 and 2021. 2020 is deceiving as it was a short season. I’m not sure he was a full time player in 2017. There was a risk. I just wasn’t sure how big of one. It certainly didn’t impact his deal like it would have in other years…
