The NBA cap actually permits and creates dynasties, since teams can sign their own superstars for more than other teams can. The NFL doesn’t do that but certainly has ways to promote teams keeping their own, like franchise tags. But unlike the NBA, NFL players seems to hate that. But then NFL salary rules and structures don’t appear to follow rules of any known branch of mathematics. The NBA isn’t much better. The NFL does position itself for more roster turnover than other sports because -Tom Brady aside - careers can be insanely short. Tough to build a dynasty when there will be 40 new faces within 5 years…

Oddly the cap seems to have had the opposite effect of what was intended. Or at the very least, has made zero difference. Look at the NBA. Since they re-installed the cap in 1984, only 11 different teams have won a title. That stretch covers 38 seasons. In capless MLB, you only have to go back to 2008 to find 11 different World Series Champions…

It would be a first if the Sox did that, but I don’t think the 26 man roster provision is enforceable if he were theoretically traded to Boston. If Boston - and only Boston - trades for Song, I would think that ends his Rule 5 status. That said, Boston is far more likely to trade him away to Philly than to trade for him this year…

How many incredibly wealthy people who don’t need more money decide to just stop? Not many people in the USA are wealthier than Mark Cuban, yet he’s still out there every week on Shark Tank looking for more invest opportunities and always basing his decision on the financial status of the candidates’ proposals. As do all the other wealthy sharks on that show, but Cuban in particular stands out because his net worth is greater than all the other sharks combined. He’s wealthy even among the wealthy!! And yet he’s still making his decisions based on dollars and cents! So I’m not 100% on board that comparative pauper John Henry isn’t concerned about the money. He didn’t get rich enough to purchase ownership stakes in multiple MLB franchises over the years by not worrying about money…
