  1. I’d only sign Rodon if he allowed for a slew of Lackey-style protection clauses (or if I could get him on a four year deal). He’s insanely talented. But he just can’t stay on the mound…
  2. If Barnes is the 5th or 6th man in the bullpen, then maybe he won’t be as worn out in August…
  3. ERA is nice because everyone can relate to it. But all the differences just don’t even out. If you’ve ever watched a Colorado pitcher and checked out his road ERA because you didn’t possibly think he could be that bad (Jon Gray), then you know it’s not the end-all-be-all. And ballpark is just one factor…
  4. The biggest change would probably be not extending Devers…
  5. I said he was a decent reliever who had 10 horrible IP at the end of 2021. I can stand by that. I also said Blown Saves are a joke. They are. That Edwin Diaz was the league leader over that stretch supports my viewpoint. I stand by that, too. And I said making it the AL lead eliminated the bulk of pitchers who pitched in the NL or both leagues over that stretch. That Barnes was 10th overall but first among AL-only supports me there. He’s a decent RP. My biggest issue with him was Cora’s insistence on using him in extra innings last year while he was struggling. I think he’ll be ok this year, but the bullpen doesn’t depend on him to be successful as a whole…
  6. Of course, if you read 5Gold's post, you will notice he said "AL Leader". Not MLB leader. Over that stretch, the MLB leader in Blown Saves is Edwin Diaz. I assume we should attribute more failure to him. Barnes total ties him for 10th with Alex Colome. In order to lead the AL in any category over a 6 season stretch, a player would benefit greatly from being in the AL for all 6 seasons. That original post about Barnes is actually penalizing him for sticking around. Worth noting. Barnes also leads all AL relief pitchers in in appearances over that stretch. Also worth noting, Barnes is third in Holds over that same stretch with 80. His 126 Holds plus Saves is 5th in the AL, behind Alex Colome, Aroldis Champman, Liam Hendricks and Ryan Pressly. It's not like he was some sort of save-blowing machine who did nothing but ruin Sox leads. He was a decent reeliver who had a horrible 10 IP stretch to end 2021 that carried over to start 2022. But he also finished last year very strong...
  7. I think they should as well, but that's easy to think in January when no one is injured yet. Probably worth remembering too that last year, they did win 78 games. While that is certainly not an impressive win total, it's not such a given for any team to beat as well. I mean, they were basically a .500 team...
  8. Some Padre blogger is pushing a trade of Kim and Grisham for Houck and Verdugo. I do that. The Sox upgrade defensively at 4 positions. Although they would have to replace Houck’s arm in the pen. Given that Roster Resource has the Padres left fielder as Matt Carpenter, this deal makes sense for the Padres, too…
  9. Even if it was Casas for Lopez, Salas and any random Miami project prospect. Do you do it?
  10. The Sox are not starting the season with Hernandez and Arroyo both starting up the middle while Arroyo is also the backup shortstop…
  11. It looks like he would have cost us Casas…
  12. The shocking part is he’s picking on Kike’s health. Kike has played in 80% of his team’s games 5 times in the last 6 years. Judge and Stanton have reached that level a total of 6 times in the past 6 years. Oh and now the Yankees have Carlos Rodon!! Yes he should get over all those pesky injuries that derailed his 20s and be nothing but healthy in his 30s. After all, doesn’t time heal all wounds? Or does that not apply to actual physical injuries and the aging process?
  13. Andrus is the easiest and obvious target. But even if the Sox decide it’s Hernandez/Arroyo, ok. There are good things about that combo. But then who is the utility infielder?
  14. A lot can happen between now and opening day…
  15. And can they get there before Judge?
  16. Assuming so…
  17. Blown saves are a joke stat. Especially for non-closing relievers. At least closers typically come in at the beginning of the ninth inning. But other relievers often come in with men on base, and those men can and do score and cause blown saves all the time…
  18. I’m fine with Mondesi, but he won’t be a Bloom target. Plus, let’s face it, if you think Arroyo is too fragile to be an everyday SS, then Mondesi shouldn’t even be a consideration. I suspect someone with solid DRS, like Taylor Walls or Paul DeJong will be a target. Or IKF if the Yankees move him elsewhere first. Or maybe even Ha-Seong Kim…
  19. Apparently Chisholm is moving to CF, at least for now. But this keeps Wendle in the picture at SS. Even roste Resource has updated accordingly...
  20. I do think it is important to recognize that Casas and Chang are largely interchangeable...
  21. He doesn't hit much, but I would like to try him as corner OF. I think he has the footspeed and arm strength for the positions, but it's a question of whether or not he can actually catch a flyball thats not hit right to him...
  22. Or the Marlins FO just values him differently. More important, with the Marlins getting yet another middle infielder, does this put Joey Wendle back in play for Boston?
  23. And Moncada was #3 in 2016 and #2 in 2017…
  24. And they probably valued Downs more than we did…
  25. I’d bet he’s more highly regarded by the Sox than on here. They did acquire him in a trade after all. We on Talksox didn’t do that. (I wanted Graterol than and still do.)
