  1. It’s funny. If you look at McGuire’s Stat Cast numbers, he profiles similar to Vazquez. Similar arm strength. Similar pop up times. Similar Framing grades. No one complained about Vazquez as a defender. Some still seem to think his defense is missing. Because when McGuire does the same stuff, it’s just wrong now. StatCast does also say on these aspects of catching, Wong blows both Vazquez and McGuire away…
  2. I liked Bogaerts, too. And for Story money (or a tad more) I bring him back. There were stories that was what he wanted, but we will never actually know. (Players do sometimes say nonsensical things about their contract situation.) I don’t think Bloom saw him as the SS of the long term future. I could be wrong about that, too…
  3. All the more reason to just put him in a Bulk IP Role this year…
  4. The Sox are 5-3 in games in which Yu Chang starts at SS. 5-7 when anyone else does…
  5. Their efforts in that department are up for debate…
  6. Will they change the team name or ride the “A’s/Athletics” moniker into their 4th city. I think this might make them the most frequently relocated team of all time, once they do this and separate themselves from the Braves…
  7. That’s part of the reason. Also Smoltz wasn’t being paid $10mill with an option for 2024. If Kluber can turn it around, it could help next year’s team.
  8. They’re not going to pull the plug just yet. 10 starts minimum….
  9. Playing McGuire at DH creates a risky situation unless the Sox add a third catcher to the roster…
  10. Most of the league opted for hitting shortstops in the 1990’s, and players like Nomar, Jeter, ARod and Miguel Tejada were the stars. That wasn’t just a Sox Thing; many teams were doing it. (Technically they had Alex Gonzalez twice in 2006 and again in 2009.) Right now they don’t have an active SS who excels in either aspect. So while a glove-first guy might not be utmost on the minds of Sox’ fans, it’s still a step up. At this point in his career, Iglesias might only be a utility infielder. But with the Sox MI depth and injuries, it’s worth a shot…
  11. Entirely possible they’re simply asking the pitchers…
  12. The biggest issue with Iglesias is the Dodgers might also have interest. With Lux, Rojas, and Taylor all out they certainly have the need
  13. Get ‘em, Chaim!!
  14. Yes and when you’re 75-68, you are going to have some bad records against some teams…
  15. I didn’t check, so I made a safe, accurate statement that just happened to be 100% irrelevant…
  16. Not really. His velocity declined steadily last year, cratering in July/August before a brief spike. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/corey-kluber/2429/graphs?pitchgraphs=true&statArr=&legend=1&split=base&time=daily&start=2021&end=2023&rtype=mult&gt1=15&dStatArray=SI&ymin=&ymax= Now he’s down at crater level already. If he continues this decline, he might soon be at the “Division I Softball” level velocity, but from 20 feet further away…
  17. Not sure why you brought it up…
  18. Alfaro is on that roster…
  19. Are they worried about Mata’s role just yet? They might just want him to rack up some IP. He’s only thrown 83IP in the last 3 years total, all of it last year…
  20. No but it is 12 bad innings. Like Sale, Mata has thrown much over the last couple seasons. There’s a chance he shakes off some rust and improves, possibly substantially…
  21. I’m fine if Winckowski never starts another game. The Sox need arms that can get people out in the bullpen, too…
  22. And with Sale there was probably/likely a fair amount of rust. Even before his last start, he was averaging over 93mph on his fastball, which is a good range for him and one in which he has had some success. Certainly that says nothing about his slider, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it took a few innings to get his feel back. Kluber on the other hand is clearly in decline. He’s always lived and died by command, but even that has been off. He’s basically throwing 88mph meatballs either off the plate or too close to the middle of it. He might not survive the season, especially if someone like Walter or Mata can emerge…
  23. Part of the 75-68…
  24. Not sure if you’re pro-CERA or anti-McGuire. Or for some odd reason, both. The only thing we know I’d you’re pro-Small Sample Sizes…
  25. The Sox only play Toronto 12 times this year. Last year, they were 3-16 against them (and 75-68 against everyone else).
