It wasn’t me, but probably just a matter of opportunity. I’m glad Sale had a great outing. Not actually surprised because 1) Fangraphs had his average fastball velocity at a respectable 93mph before that outing and 2) the Twins’ offense is dreadful. Still he managed to exceed my meager expectations and (more important) not get hurt. Now I can go back to my off-season prediction that the Sox season depends heavily on Sale…

The longest of long shots, but also probably the best one the Sox have. After all, if he wants to play with Yoshida (which he probably does but won’t let it be a factor in his decision), the Sox are the only team that can accommodate him. Of course, Ohtani didn’t hire an agent to get him a play date. He’ll go for the money…

I think that applies to everyone in last year’s free agent class. How many of these people who expected Yoshida to go for less had Brandon Nimmo pegged for 8 years $162mill? (What a difference 20 years makes. In 2001, that kind of deal gets you a 27yo Manny Ramirez. In 2022, it only gets you a 30yo Brandon Nimmo.)

Maybe those 6.5 runs are influenced by the Seabold/Winckowski/early Bello starting rotation from last September that was then relieved by a bullpen that created more runs than Applebee’s chili and ExLax combined…

Hopefully Crawford pushed both down a notch after yesterday. If so, maybe Ort is next man down? Or Bello. Either way, if Houck returns to the bullpen, we’re talking about the 7th and 8th options at reliever. I’m not going to sweat the mop up guys when the starting 2b and SS are a bit of a mess…

It’s nice that he’s been doing that down in Worcester, but against MLB pitching his career is 8%. I’d be more interested in Duran if he at least could defend CF. Has shown any improvement in that area this year?
