  1. Or at least move up in the lineup…
  2. Vazquez was a free agent. He was going to leave in 2 months unless the Sox topped the Twins’ offer. Also didn’t his replacement have a big hit last night?
  3. I’m sure they will, but not hard enough, and it won’t matter anyway…
  4. It wasn’t me, but probably just a matter of opportunity. I’m glad Sale had a great outing. Not actually surprised because 1) Fangraphs had his average fastball velocity at a respectable 93mph before that outing and 2) the Twins’ offense is dreadful. Still he managed to exceed my meager expectations and (more important) not get hurt. Now I can go back to my off-season prediction that the Sox season depends heavily on Sale…
  5. Ooops. I somehow slipped on that. Still. The plan is obvious. Hire Hall of Famers and put them up for stud. Let’s farm out Pedro and Chipper and Bagwell. Jeter’s already busy doing it for everyone else. Maybe McGriff? Baines. Just not Craig Biggio…
  6. Complete lack of key hits against the best staff in MLB to date. Makes Devers’ poor baserunning decision (or possibly Carlos Fables’ decision?) to not try to score on Yoshida’s ground out in the first much more significant…
  7. I e been anti-Brasier since 2019, but if he’s the 7th or 8th man on the bullpen depth chart, the bullpen fine
  8. Paxton might be cleared by Thursday…
  9. And the utility guy was the one spawned by a Hall of Famer* *Until Vlad Sr. gets inducted…
  10. So other positions cannot be mentioned in passing?
  11. But you’re not listening to him…
  12. The longest of long shots, but also probably the best one the Sox have. After all, if he wants to play with Yoshida (which he probably does but won’t let it be a factor in his decision), the Sox are the only team that can accommodate him. Of course, Ohtani didn’t hire an agent to get him a play date. He’ll go for the money…
  13. How is Senga a reasonable comp to Yoshida?
  14. Back then $160mill would buy you the AL West…
  15. I think he’s talking about overreactions to two games…
  16. I think that applies to everyone in last year’s free agent class. How many of these people who expected Yoshida to go for less had Brandon Nimmo pegged for 8 years $162mill? (What a difference 20 years makes. In 2001, that kind of deal gets you a 27yo Manny Ramirez. In 2022, it only gets you a 30yo Brandon Nimmo.)
  17. So it’s all 5Gold’s fault!!!
  18. Maybe they were the same guys who wrote these? https://www.lookoutlanding.com/2019/3/25/18281381/ichiro-suzuki-scouting-report-99-do-not-acquire
  19. I’m ok if he turns in a count-working slap hitter, as long as he improves…
  20. Maybe those 6.5 runs are influenced by the Seabold/Winckowski/early Bello starting rotation from last September that was then relieved by a bullpen that created more runs than Applebee’s chili and ExLax combined…
  21. Hopefully Crawford pushed both down a notch after yesterday. If so, maybe Ort is next man down? Or Bello. Either way, if Houck returns to the bullpen, we’re talking about the 7th and 8th options at reliever. I’m not going to sweat the mop up guys when the starting 2b and SS are a bit of a mess…
  22. I don’t get why he isn’t leading off…
  23. But while the early returns on Yoshida (.662OPS) look weak, he isn’t paid much more than Benintendi (.650). We may have reached the point where the 5 year $15-18mill contracts just don’t but what they used to…
  24. It’s nice that he’s been doing that down in Worcester, but against MLB pitching his career is 8%. I’d be more interested in Duran if he at least could defend CF. Has shown any improvement in that area this year?
