  1. Think they DFA Paxton after all the time and money invested? Plus he’s an experienced starting pitcher - which is their weakness. Kluber might have been DFAd if not for his last outing, but at least that would have been for performance. I’d guess if Paxton returns, one of Houck, Whitlock or Pivetta goes to the pen until Paxton (or another SP, but probably Paxton) gets injured. Bernardino would get demoted and Ort somehow survives again…
  2. AAA is also where many teams stash the 26-36 spots on their roster…
  3. In the rare event everyone is healthy, Bello will be in Worcester. Not sure who goes to the bullpen, but I’m fine with sending anyone if it means demoting Ort…
  4. I’d be ok with Hamilton at 2b, but that definitely keeps Kike at SS, especially with the way Duran is hitting…
  5. As opposed to leading the league in infield errors? Not sure that’s a step down. Plus he has 70 speed; he can run across the diamond and simply hand the ball to Casas. Are IL hitters racking up infield hits to Hamilton? I honestly don’t know…
  6. So you think the Sox are going to pay Paxton $14mill since last year just to rehab and release him?
  7. I don’t think it’s so much being swayed by his hot start as it is needing a SS and Hamilton is the last man standing. He’s already on the 40 man. He’s already 25 years old. Not like they’re going to “ruin his development”. Either he’s a major leaguer or he isn’t, and right now is a good time to find out…
  8. The Sox, like most teams, will probably need 10 or so starting pitchers this year. They’re keeping Bello where he is for depth, which is the same reason Kluber has not been DFAd. This isn’t about Bello “needing to work” on anything; this is about demoting the guy with options so you can keep everyone…
  9. Well, even after Sort went down, they had Kike and Chang in line. My question is - if you don’t like Hamilton enough to play him, why is he on the 40 man roster? Sure there was fear he might get taken in the Rule 5 draft, but who cares if he isn’t good enough to play?
  10. But if you know it’s a hitter friendly stadium, shouldn’t every MLB GM also be aware that any increase is likely just PCL Stadium Fluff and be somewhat less impressed?
  11. It’s no longer a choice. Ort is clearly an addiction…
  12. He’s going to report to El Paso. That beach is a 4,000 hour trip by rollerblade…
  13. Get a healthy relief guy!!! Also, how on Earth do the PADRES sign Jose Iglesias!?! Dodgers? Makes sense. Red Sox? Clear need. Pirates? Good fit. But the Padres? Already the most shortstop-infested roster ever!! He will just step in and be like 14th on the depth chart. (That’s not hyperbole.) Never mind the Padres, what was Iglesias thinking?
  14. You probably didn’t know, but that year, WAFL was the biggest topic at StatiCon, the world’s largest conference dedicated to static. And eliminating its cling from your laundry. And Felipe Lopez’ laundry…
  15. Ort never misses bats of any type, be it vampire, fruit, or wom…
  16. Ort claims to have kidnapped a family of wombats, and is holding them in a cage on the side of a cliff. He has stated repeated that if he gets released or even demoted, those wombats go over the edge. Ort even wears number 61 to remind the Sox staff how high that cliff is. So sure, the Sox could demote him. Or release him. But they’d be killing those wombats. Is that what people want? Wombat corpses strewn all up and down a 61 foot cliff?!? That’s just sick!
  17. WAFIP exists. It’s just not as widely accepted as WAFL…
  18. Kluber had a good outing against a good hitting team… … WITH MCGUIRE CATCHING!!
  19. Yoshida-Duran-Verdugo has been a surprising outfield lately…
  20. The thing about the Price deal was the timing of the injury. If he didn’t get hurt in the second or third year of that contract, he likely opts out. (An injury in the first year might have given him enough time to recover and look valuable again.) He started off the second year injured, and his third year wasn’t bad, but it certainly wasn’t good enough to walk away from $124mill over the next four years…
  21. BABIP doesn’t factor into FIP at all, as it’s just a function of Ks, BBS and HRs, none of which are part of BABIP. The theory is these are the only 3 outcomes a pitcher can control, or that at the very least, are not influenced by defense. That a pitcher can control home runs feels debatable to me. I mean, wind can be a bigger factor in home runs than the pitcher…
  22. 1. Dombrowski actually didn’t sign him to start. Strahm moved into that role due to the injury to Ranger Suarez and a very weak cast of pitchers on the Phillies Reserve List 2. If folks here freak out about Dalbec playing one game at shortstop, how well would Strahm go over if he was signed to be a SP?
  23. Urias? Sure. Not Nola. Hard pass…
  24. Right now (and yeah, I know it’s early) the top performer among newly signed free agent starting pitchers is deGrom (1.4 fWAR) Then there is a substantial drop off down to Vince Velasquez and Wade Miley (0.4 fWAR each)…
  25. Well, we do have his former teammate..
