  1. 26 might be a bit much. (Not counting Reyes.) But Tampa has used 30 pitchers. New York, Baltimore and Toronto have all used in the 18-23 range…
  2. Since June 1 (not including today), Ort actually had a 3.60 ERA (4.39 FIP) with a .699 OPSA over 10 IP. Not exactly stellar, but a far cry from how he was during my repeated calls for a DFA…
  3. Never confuse when they see something with when they admit something…
  4. Or just play him everyday. Just because a player has a weaker split vs LHP shouldn’t automatically trigger a platoon…
  5. Duran is 7 for his last 7 with 6 XBH…
  6. Whitlock to the IL. Tayler Scott recalled. Meanwhile, experienced MLB starter Chris Flexen sits in DFA limbo…
  7. I should. But I have this mild fascination with trolls who don’t realize that going to another team board and trying to disrupt any enthusiasm there really isn’t the bastion of intellect they think it is. And Stork makes up his trash! I mean, that he gets entertained by trolling speaks volumes about his simple mind, but that he can’t even use real numbers and makes stuff up?? That’s just priceless…
  8. I think he goes. And the Sox roll the five on another pitching acquisition who is under control for next season (at a minimum) in a separate deal…
  9. Theo learned his lesson there, huh? Used the phrase “bridge year” to talk about the minors, went out and signed John Lackey to the largest contract for a pitcher in team history (at the time). And everyone ignored the second action, focused on the quote, and assumed the team was not trying to win…
  10. Flexen DFAd again…
  11. He’ll sign Snell; he’s had him before…
  12. We’re sort of like buyers now, getting back Sale, Story, Mondesi, Chang, Schreiber and Houck…
  13. Most likely they will just use Chapman there. Today Chapman faced the 9-1-2 hitters and Smith faced 3-4-5, etc. Expect those roles to reverse at some point…
  14. There’s a lot of criticism for “Bloom said this” and “Bloom said that” and a lot of fans getting riled because he didn’t match their interpretation of his actions. But who was the last GM the Sox had who said anything at all? I always assumed most GMs kept quiet to keep from being scooped by rival GMs. I get now it’s to avoid criticism from fans…
  15. Per BTV, Paxton would be worth former Vanderbilt RHSP Kumar Rocker (3.86 ERA in A+ this year) or 18yo OF Anthony Gutierrez (.931 OPS in Rookie Ball/ .573 OPS in A ball), assuming no money changes hands. Including $2mill equates to RHP Brock Porter. Including all $4mill equates to former Vanderbilt RHSP Jack Leiter. I don’t see that one happening. I could maybe see Rocker. Porter feels like a stretch. Leiter is a pipe dream…
  16. Want me to make that even crazier? If the Sox lose their next game, then they would have the most wins against teams with winning records. (With the Sox dipping to .500, the Rays’ total would drop to 21 as the Sox represent 7 of those victories.)
  17. I don’t think whether or not he wants to be a starter should be a factor. They ALL want to be starters (or closers). I am not much for sweeping generalizations, but I think it’s fair to say no one in MLB wants to be a backup or a middle reliever. Certainly plenty of them accept those roles, but they want to start. They know it. You know it. I know it. The Sox need SP, but for the two years they have been trying to force fit Garrett Whitlock into that role, the results are ALWAYS the same. Desire and repertoire do absolutely no good from the inside of a sling…
  18. I think Houck and Crawford have defaulted their way into starting roles. Whitlock just might not have the stamina. If this team refused to give multiyear deals to Eovaldi and Wacha for durability reasons, then it’s all the more baffling that they keep forcing Whitlock into a starting role…
  19. Valdez knows where 2b is on a diamond. His ability to play the position competently is debatable…
  20. Chris Flexen get claimed or dealt?
  21. Kluber and Mondesi should just be put to sleep…
  22. If they need a long RP, bring Walter back up. His MLB debut of 6 2/3 IP was the longest relief outing in franchise history since 1944. Pivetta, Winckowski and probably Whitlock should all never (rarely?) throw more than 2 IP…
  23. Priming himself up for another injury…
  24. No. It’s related to the LHHs without pretty swings peaking in AAA.. If it was related to the spin of the Earth, we’d have never seen Gedman..
