More blown saves is going to be a trend, considering it’s not indicative of any sort of ninth inning failure. (Also a blown save isn’t necessarily a loss. What was the Sox record in those games?) We’ve seen pitchers get credited with blown saves as early as the fifth inning.
In this day of reduced starter workload, 8 man bullpens, and the opener strategy, the blown save compared to previous years is a useless stat. Might as well compare DH numbers on NL teams from this year to those from 20 years ago…
