  1. Well, the most frightening scenario is a giant comet crashes into the Earth in early October, eliminating all human life and also cancelling the postseason. But is it the likeliest? I think of Paxton’s arm as a ticking time bomb. And the countdown timer has just entered single digits…
  2. With Paxton, do you really need a crystal ball to know he has an injury coming? The guy has three pitching phases; 1.About to get injured 2. Injured 3. Just back from being injured The hope is he stays in 3 and 1 for three more months. But the reality is, phase 2 is always right there…
  3. Gabbard had a tattoo on his left arm that read “Best If Used By Apr 16 2008.” The Rangers ignored this…
  4. There’s a difference between the problem was a lack of good rookies and two good rookies would have helped. But the 2019 Sox finished 12 games out of the postseason. I doubt these two, even playing like they are now, would have made up that difference. That’s a lot. The 2021 Sox were closer to making the playoffs (thanks to an additional wild card) than the 2019 team was…
  5. Want me to jazz it up a bit? The Red Sox are searching hard for Rougned Odor in order to avenge the murder of their father. Odor brutally killed him with powerful left-handed swings after an argument ensued about the definition of the word “ensue.” Odor can often be found manning second base and has connections in Texas, Baltimore, New York and San Diego. He is rumored to be unarmed, particularly against breaking pitches. Better?
  6. Per MLBTR, the Sox are looking for a LHH middle infielder. The Padres just released Rougned Odor. I wouldn’t be surprised, even if it was just for a week or two. (Frankly I don’t see the need for a LHH middle infielder.)
  7. That 3-0 one? Not exactly a blowout either…
  8. Soxprospects.com gives him a plus arm…
  9. The SP market is overkill. The way the game is played today, a guy capable of 5-6 IP without blowing up, and let the bullpen take over. Someone like Snell will be expensive enough; I don’t think I want to see the Sox sign another Price contract that just derails the team for years…
  10. The Sox rotation for next year is just as questionable. Sale and Bello and maybe Crawford. Followed by? Houck? Pivetta? Whitlock? I could see aging at least one controllable arm now. I do think the most likely resolution is a rental SPand a rental reliever. And keeping Paxton…
  11. 1. Paxton makes Eovaldi look like Cal Ripken. It’s not even unlikely that Paxton goes down for the count right after the trading deadline. Just going into Buy Mode without considering this could be disastrous and very reminiscent of 2022. 2. Newly acquired SPs should be under control for 2024 at a minimum
  12. I specifically said “only for an early trade or …” Some trades will go before August 1, but most will wait as long as possible to get all the offers on the table…
  13. The Sox should try to move Kike, Duvall and Paxton. And also acquire 2 SPs in separate deals. (Should Bloom try to make a blockbuster involving Alex Verdugo, then Duvall should be kept.)
  14. No. Those do not impact service time..
  15. Fangraphs lists their #15 prospect as Jacob Amaya, but he was dealt to Miami before the season for Miguel Rojas. Their new #15 prospect becomes Nick Frasso, whose FV of 40+ would earn him a rank between 14 and 17 in the Sox rankings on Fangraphs. So not buying that one …
  16. Small number but Rafaela has an advantage by being on the 40 man roster…
  17. And while the Mets still had Brooks Raley (LHP) available, shouldn’t Cora have figured that Duran/Refsnyder was far more likely to bat in the ninth, which is owned by Dave Robertson on the Mets? And that Raley was far, far more likely to be deployed during the Yoshida/Devers portion of the lineup. I think he played that one very poorly…
  18. They’re not trading him and the Sox aren’t re-acquiring him…
  19. I’d prefer the Sox kept Arroyo and sent Kike…
  20. No, Illinois recapped the steps. The logic for removing Duran - especially he had potential to bat in the ninth against a team with a RHP for a closer - has not been explained. Honestly, it’s most likely it did not make a difference in the final outcome, but that doesn’t make it less of a stupid move…
  21. We had Reyes for a lot of Kike’s starts. We also had a losing record in Kike’s starts. I will never understand why Cora kept trying it…
  22. Only for an early trade or a trade on August 1 with the Seattle Mariners completed before the game starts, and the new SP simply has to walk across the diamond during BP and try on his new uniform…
  23. I think fans often lock on the these kind of preferences when a manager repeatedly makes a move they don’t like or understand. Sometimes there are other reasons. Not sure why alike kept playing shortstop beyond the lack of obvious other options on the MLB roster. (In no way is Cora not giving input there, by the way.) It’s like how fans think a HM is “obsessed” with any player MLBTR. links them to twice. Sometimes it might be as simple as “they already reviewed his contract,” which is an essential first step in any trade…
  24. Currently they are using James Outman in CF. He was a ROY shoe-in in April, but his .646 OPS since May 1 should open the door for the massive defensive upgrade Kike would give them in CF…
  25. I’m not either, but it was frustrating watching him throw Kike out there day after day at shortstop. I think Bloom took far too long to promote Hamilton, whose weaknesses could/should have been discovered earlier. (Although it’s not hard to argue they haven’t been found yet given he only has 34 career plate appearances). And honestly, if they want defense, Ceddane Rafaela was in Worcester and on the 40 man roster…
