  1. Those teams all lost so many games because they all beat up on each other. (It’s funny because it can’t happen.)
  2. The division is weaker because they lost 4 games?
  3. Not sure I agree. Hi you really think 50% of all corner outfielders are as good or better than Verdugo defensively?
  4. What? They’re not waiting for their injured pitchers to return!?? You don’t have to do that!?!
  5. I’ve said it since the day the Sox extended him (against my wishes) - the problem with Eovaldi has nothing to do with talent…
  6. Brewers/Rangers. Let’s have a first time champ…
  7. I tried a different route. Per Fangraphs, all teams combined for 570 fWAR for position players. As there are 390 roster slots in MLB for position players, that makes for roughly 1.5 fWAR per roster spot. Whit Merrifield’s fWAR this year is 1.5. So that’s another way to determine an average player, I guess. (J.T. Realmuto also worked.)
  8. No. Whit Merrifield is average.
  9. 1) I said fans will displeased with a low enough offensive player regardless of defense. 2) You said the negative fWAR was a better evaluation than fan opinion. 3) I pointed out said players do not always have a negative fWAR, citing 2014 JBJ. Later another example in Ozzie Smith was supplied. The problem with negative fWAR is the player might not have one, despite a miniscule OPS…
  10. Sure. But doesn’t that invalidate whatever point you were trying to make in post 149?
  11. Ouija Board. A Magic 8-Ball is just a Ouija Board for people with no friends…
  12. No, I was just pointing out a player can struggle mightily with the bat and still have a positive fWAR. It wasn’t me who brought up negative fWAR back in post 149…
  13. Actually those years were not pertinent at all to my question about 2014. The bottom line is that year Bradley was a clear offensive liability yet didn’t have a negative fWAR. That’s also a possibility with Rafaela next year. If Rafaela has a .530 OPS and a positive fWAR in the 0.1 to 0.5 range, what will be your thoughts of him as a starter?
  14. In 2014, Bradley posted a .531 OPS and 0.2 fWAR. I bet he wasn’t wildly popular. And his offensive output might have helped fuel the team’s interest in Rusney Castillo. I don’t recall anyone defending his contributions based on his positive fWAR…
  15. He isn’t. It’s easy to say “I’m fine with him hitting.650 and playing great defense.” We all are. But there is a threshold where the defense simply doesn’t justify the lack of offense to many fans, even for a number nine hitter. We’ve seen this with Bradley. At both ends of his career…
  16. Point being the post-surgery Lackey was like getting a new pitcher. 2011 and 2012 Lackey was more problem than solution…
  17. I’m sure Cora had input. I’m sure every manger has some input. But that didn’t make them ultimately responsible. “Input” doesn’t mean making the final call. The notion that Cora is begging for a better pitcher and Bloom is telling him “No!! You will work with what I give you!” Is pure fantasy. Bloom was aware which one of the two would be fired by ownership first in that case…
  18. He’s only played 178 games since 2021, and only 37 in RF. But he is getting older…
  19. If Abreu isn’t a starter (or a strong side of a platoon), leave him in Worcester until he’s needed. Duvall makes more sense than any other option I can think of. Not sure what one year of Verdugo is getting traded for…
  20. Duvall did win a Gold Glove in RF as recently as 2021, getting more votes than some guy named Betts…
  21. Duvall is absolutely a solid option. It’s hard to think of any better ones that would actually be available. Another good all around RHH outfielder who will definitely be available is Avisail Garcia. But he’s been fairly banged up the past two seasons so who knows what left. He’s owed $29mill over the next 2 years, so he’s not a huge gamble, and the spendthrift Marlins might encourage Boston with other pieces just to unload that deal…
  22. Trout was exactly what I said he was - better on an Internet forum than for a guy actually making decisions. The thing is, the Sox probably need a RH bat they can play RF at Fenway, especially if they move on from Verdugo ( which isn’t a given). Free agency has very little, unless you like Randal Grichuk and his Sub-.300 OBP. There was a time Ramón Laureano felt like the perfect fit. He certainly has the arm. But he’sh has a few other issues, including vanishing offense, that he becomes a question mark, too…
  23. You can say it all you want, but that doesn’t make it true. For all we know, maybe Henry saw my trade deadline grade and decided that was enough to fire Bloom…
  24. I was thinking more like Luis Tiant.
  25. .650 isn’t much of a floor. Plenty of teams have at least one starter with a .650 OPS. But what if he’s at .530? Like JBJ was his first full season?
