    Playoffs

Better pitching. Even at the deadline would have been ok…
  2. I don’t know of that was ever offered, but in would have at least hoped for a better pitcher than Maeda, who has only started 53 games in the past 4 years with a 106 ERA+. If we’re getting a hindsight package, maybe fewer oft-injured pitchers..,
  3. For a guy quick to insult the reading comprehension of other, he sure does struggle with the ol’ nouns and verbs…
  4. I preferred taking the initial package with Graterol, but really, there were only two teams showing any interest. Kluber was a flop, but a one year deal for a 3.0 fWAR pitcher the season previous isn’t a mistake in theory; it was a move that simply didn’t work out. At a minimum, this deal at least impacts nothing going forward. Hopefully the new guy can be more decisive and not simply sit idly by while a team in contention needs help…
  5. I think I’d like the ghost runner better if it didn’t come into play right away. If the game goes 11 or (ideally) 12 innings, then start the gimmicky stuff…

    Playoffs

Really they could have brought him back to play 1b. Not like Cordero/Dalbec/Hosmer anchored that position memorably…

    Playoffs

    Some GMs, too…
  8. I don’t think revamping the postseason structure to include the best teams has to include bringing back the color barrier. I don’t even see the connection…
  9. I do think rewarding fans of better teams and keeping them interested in (what should be considered) a successful season has value. It is truly disheartening to watch your team have a good year, but miss out on the postseason for reasons solely related to geography…
  10. A ridiculous six teams with better records than the Cardinals missed the postseason that year. That’s 20% of the league. And will MLB ever do anything about that horribly unfair scenario? Of course not. They’re too busy giving up ghost runners and three batter minimums…

    Playoffs

Well, the irony there is Schwarber was not signed to play DH either…

    Playoffs

Traded JD where? And the thing is if they did that, they probably sign Yoshida anyway. Not sure they viewed him as a DH, but they definitely liked him as a hitter…
  13. That does make sense. As unlikable as Lucchino was, the man has a long career with winning sports teams. He has World Series rings, a Super Bowl ring, and Final Four watch ( and is apparently the only human being with such a collection ever). I could see his departure being a large factor…

    Playoffs

Oh he’s a much better hitter than Yoshida. Of course the options never were Schwarber or Yoshida…

    Playoffs

Also a defensive liability his whole career…
  16. This is not new. 2006 Cardinals…
  17. That’s ridiculous!! There are so many real reasons not to trust you!!
  18. I thought it got hijacked. Apparently I unjacked it back…
  19. This isn’t the prediction thread, but I think this will all end with the Sox promoting Romero..,
  20. They didn’t try to make any them 2 way players. Even Ball didn’t try outfield until he gave up pitching…
  21. He’s only 21. Not like he’s 3 years out of college. M any talented players his age are looking to get drafted this year or next…
  22. Hey it worked before.
  23. Next up - Gabe Kapler https://www.yahoo.com/sports/red-sox-gm-candidate-reportedly-171631348.html
  24. Hasn’t Cora expressed an interest in managing in 2024? While he’s not committed, that seems most likely. But, hey Epstein was the guy whose was “not ready” once upon a time Maybe he will be miraculously “ready” if the new boss isn’t to his liking…
  25. One possibility is they are not getting interviews due to the Alex Cora Factor. The reportedly offered Cora the job, but he turned it down, citing “not being ready yet.” “Yet” is the key word. To many, that means this might be a temp job that will involve training your replacement at some point. If you’re an experienced MLB GM/CBO/President of Ops, how appealing does that make this situation? The only interviews they’re likely to get are people trying to build a resume, like Breslow…
